I appreciate Cher as an artist but this album is a karaoke session at best.
Whilst the songs can be very enjoyable and I can totally understand why Cher did make this album (she just doesn't give a damn and she only does something what she really wants to and she doesn't have to prove anything to anyone anymore) but this project is so bland and musical-esque. A*Teens came up with better productions two decades ago. Singing in that vocal register is somehow not Cher's forte and she simply missed to make those covers their own or interpret them in a new way.

As I predicted, the songs don't stray too far away from their originals, although Mark Taylor as usual does an amazing job with the production.

I was never enthused about an album of ABBA covers, but it's a pleasing listen. Chiquitita is my favourite.

Don't like the album, though i appreciate the effort, nothing on the album comes close to the perfection that is Abba.

I'm looking forward to hear new songs from Cher. I hope there is another "Believe" in her.

+1
It sounds like a bad karaoke session. The only remake I like is 'SOS'.

One of Us and The Name of the Game are probably my favourites. The issue with Dancing Queen and Mamma Mia is that they're already 'karaoke songs', it's hard to do them different from the originals. The only version I've heard that was different from the original was Mamma Mia from the new film. I'll probably do a full review later on but there's no way they all sound like karaoke songs.

I LOVE what she does with Dancing Queen - it's utterly camp-tastic, it's brilliant. Her vocals are powerhouse.

There are amazing qualities in her voice when she sings "...feel the beat from the tambourine, you can dance...".

Love what she does with One Of Us, Waterloo, Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight) and Chiquitita - I desperately want to like The Winner Takes It All but I think that by Cher-ifying it, it loses its magic. Hopefully it'll grow on me.

Of course they don't. The album is a grower and it takes time to get used to new versions. Also, it's a tribute album so they didn't make the songs too different, yet Cher's delivery makes them special and totally new.

Clearly, anyone who calls it is "karaoke" hasn't listened to the full album or isn't familiar with ABBA's original versions.

A few of the songs are indeed faithful to the original renditions (Mamma Mia, Dancing Queen), whereas some have been given Cher's own unique touch.

For example, Chiquitita is Latin-falvoured à la Dov'è l'amore. Waterloo is more punchy, rocky & electronic, Goldfrapp-style.

One of Us is completely stripped down, raw and (unlike the original) devoid of any reggae influence.

Cher's Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! is a club banger with that amazing dance break.

The pinnacle of the album is definitely The Winner Takes It All. She has turned into an euphoric dance tune that can leave you crying on the dance floor.

My review!

Dancing Queen - Similar to the original but slightly modernised 4/5
Gimme Gimme Gimme - Like the production, a future #1 on the Dance chart? I think so 4/5
The Name Of The Game - Not one of my favourite Abba songs but love this version, possibly my favourite on the album 5/5
SOS - Love Chers version 5/5
Waterloo - Love the live version more, am growing on it the more I listen to it 3/5
Mamma Mia - My least favourite song, don't particularly like the autotune, maybe should have replaced this song with something like Voulez Vouz 3/5
Chiquitita - The more I listen the more I think it may become my favourite, the ending needed a bit more punch like the original 4/5
Fernando - I liked the movie version but love this solo version more, perfect vocals, nothing bad about this song 5/5
The Winner Takes It All - One of my favourite Abba songs, like the 90s dance sound but it needed a stronger ending. Maybe if done as a pure ballad it would have been more effective 3/5
One Of Us - One of my least favourite Abba songs but love this stripped back version, it really shows off Chers vocals, a great ending to the album 5/5

Overall 4/5!

I LOVE the album. However The Winner Takes it all is my favourite ABBA song and I am not feeling the Cher version. Still a pretty strong album!

Surprised she hasn’t released a party megamix, you know, to make Evry gay club gayer (and I’d be so down for it)
