Cactuar wrote:I admire the idea behind the campaign and found the whole thing very exciting! The song however doesn't leave much of an impression although it is very pleasant to listen to. I find it hard to imagine a chorus line like "I'm so f***ing grateful to my ex" airing on radio. Great meaning and lyrics though, wish she spent more time on production and musical detail.
I actually love this song now... i think the production had to be minimal for it all to work

Belongs on Sweetener - a little bit of a snoozefest.

Let’s just hope this is a poor representation of the album just like NTLTC/GIAW was.

This is a beautiful R&B song but her weakest single this year so far. But it was difficult to come up with something as strong as "No Tears", "God Is A Woman" and "Breathin".

I feel like she should have waited for the new year to move on.

Her current plan is just to keep recording and keep releasing when she Thinks the time is right! It makes sense though. Sweetener was influenced by Manchester, Mac and Pete, and this one deals with the current events also dealing with two of those topics. It’s better to share now then in 6 months when her life is at a different path and she has new inspiration and topics to talk about

^ Yes, it does make sense, that's absolutely true. Maybe that's just the 'charts analyst' in me who thinks that way because 1) the chances are high "Sweetener" will fall faster on the charts now and 2) the new stuff could still be outshined by the old stuff and doesn't perform as well as it would if released later on. From another side it's obviously fantastic to get something new so soon, so i shouldn't complain...

It’s a cute album track - not a lead (?) single material

It falls flat after the rather grand releases prior to this.

I might worry this next project feels a bit rushed unless she’s got a thousand breathin’s in her pocket.
Baby, hell no, that's not the way it goes. It's all about me tonight.

I love the song, musically its more appealing to me than half of the tracks on Sweetener. Plus, i agree with Loveguru the phrase "thank u, next" is likely to become the next big meme in like...right now! Besides i hope this does go to #1 in the UK to make up for No tears left to cry failing short. :P

Also Ariana talked about how creating music is her therapy on the BBC show broadcast the other night. If Ariana feels comfortable being so open about her feelings and being creative about it, then fair play to her. Like she posted on Twitter "i love keeping the kids fed".

Lyrically the verses are a little cringe for me, but the chorus is such an ear worm I can completely bypass all that, I’d give this a solid 9 which eases the pain of her moving on so quickly

It's OK. Better than nearly all of Sweetener. But lyrically it's a bit cringey. She's pulling a Taylor Swift kind of with "we broke up, now you get a song" theme.

Lyrically it's pretty lame, the namedropping is the only thing that makes it remotely interesting.

I like this, very mellow and not as strong as the 3 singles of Sweetener but I doubt she was going for a banger. I can see this project just being there for the fans. She gets out what she is feeling right now and she's having fun without any label pressure

This is really nice and fits in with Sweetener’s sound.

I like the song, but can't help but get the feeling that every other song has to have the f-word nowadays. :-?
