Any likelihood of a UKMIX App in the foreseeable future?

There is something I can install as standard, it's pretty basic though - but it is an app, though it does cost the service user (i.e. you) to download (£1.99). I would advise including this on the feedback survey we do if it's something you think would be of benefit. What does come as standard when we go live is a user friendly browser version of UKMIX - it's super user friendly and makes posting a lot easier (though the UKMIX branding isn't present).

Ok now y’all are just trying to suck money out of us  2 pounds for a basic app? Not even Instagram charged that

It's not money for UKMIX, it's what the app developer charges.

IMPORTANT UPDATE

UKMIX will be offline for a few days from 07:00am on Friday 25th January - from this point onwards, the transfer will take place. There are three key parts to this process:

1) Taking a backup of the most up to date UKMIX database: that database will be phpBB. We'll need to convert it to vBulletin and import it into a compatible database. To provide some context - there are almost 7 million posts, almost 120,000 topics, over 81,000 users and tens of thousands of PMs: that is a massive amount of data. In addition to this, we want to transfer over everyone's user profile information and crucially, your passwords. This will likely take in the region of 24-36 hours to process (when we performed the test migration, the system was capable of processing around 250,000 posts per hour without any issues but that was just posts and didn't include the user information and passwords).

2) Executing SQL queries: in order to make sure that the posts appear correctly once transferred over where formatting has been applied (e.g. a bold or italicised word or red text), we'll need to run some SQL queries on the database. This will likely take a couple of hours per query, and if we have between 4-6 queries to perform.

3) Completing the DNS transfers: once the above is completed, we'll need to make some changes to the DNS to ensure that all existing UKMIX traffic is pointed to the right place and the server information is accurate. This will be reliant on on our new web hosts doing their part, but from previous experience - I understand that this can take between 24-48 hours (worst case scenario).

I want to manage expectations here - worst case scenario, this likely means that UKMIX will be unavailable for in the region of 4-5 days. I hope it isn't down for this long, but I also won't be providing any firm dates of return - you'll all just need to keep checking back! Once we're back up & running, I will send out a mass email to our users to confirm this is the case (the first mass email UKMIX has sent out in...well there certainly hasn't been one sent out in the 13 years I've been here!).

In that mass email, I will confirm a contact email for any queries for those struggling to sign in and will pick queries up as they arise - I would remind everyone that I'm also be at work during this period, so contact won't be instantaneous should there be any isolated issues.

Again, any queries - here's the place to raise them.

I am sure that the forums will be offline longer than five days. I just think that, cause I often witnessed that forums need longer for such a transfer, and problems can come up fast and so on.

We aren’t going to be offline for a month - we’ve already done a test migration, I don’t envisage too many issues that we haven’t already ironed out.
