Changes to UKMIX

7 million posts sounds like a lot of data but it really isn't. Many posts are just one or a couple of lines of text (and everything except the avatars is just text; Images and videos are hosted externally). How big is the database in Gigabytes?

How long ago was the last change? Feels like... a few years now or so.

Though honestly I can't remember what the last design looked like.

The database is large.

There will be little cosmetic change, the new UKMIX will look very much like the old UKMIX. But there will be enhanced functionality and scope to do so much more longer term. Initially, there will not be a homepage - that will take some getting used to - but there will be a feed running on the forums page that shows the most recent posts and topics.

The reason men can’t show their nipples is because of limitations with Google’s AdSense rules - in theory, those same limitations won’t apply soon. Short answer - haven’t decided yet, will probably want to have discussions with the moderation team as it’s a moderation issue. Would encourage you to feedback this on the survey if it’s an issue.

The last change was in 2012/2013 I think. Will dig out some pics of what the old UKMIX looked like.

I’ve been waiting 18 years to show my nipples on ukmix, if it happens there will be a grand unveiling.

3) Completing the DNS transfers: once the above is completed, we'll need to make some changes to the DNS to ensure that all existing UKMIX traffic is pointed to the right place and the server information is accurate. This will be reliant on on our new web hosts doing their part, but from previous experience - I understand that this can take between 24-48 hours (worst case scenario).
A few days before the migration, reduce your TTL on the A/AAAA records to 5min max. The DNS propagation will be near instantaneous then.

I think $12/year is more than fair. I look forward to using the premium features.

Yep, will be enabled.

I will add a caveat though that embedding excessively will slow page loading times - so the onus is on the poster to use the facility responsibly.

I think that an update to the forums is many years overdue as I remember it being talked about when I was a moderator though there were limitations and money was an issue.

I think the tiered membership is a sensible approach to take to raise the required revenue to run the site effectively.

It will be the end of an era with Lars moving on, however Wayne is clearly dedicated to the site and has the time and knowledge to implement new ideas which will keep UKMIX thriving for a further 20 years (at least!)

Looking forward to seeing them.

Does it have to be a Friday? That's both charts day and new release day. My most active period. :o :)
I suppose i'll have to get as much done as possible before 7am and then refer people to Haven.

Great to finally see this happening though.

Didn't think of that, but yes, my most active days are Friday/Saturday/Sunday, I guess.

The charts entered my first thoughts also.

The last time UKMIX had any substantial, scheduled downtime was for the forum upgrades in January 2013 - the site was down for a bit less than 48 hours (Thurs-Sat). Due to charts in the UK previously being announced on a Sunday, we were back up & running in time.

Little bit of trivia - this might be the first time in a very long time (ever?) that UKMIX isn't online for the new UK charts being announced!

I really enjoyed the beta version of the new site. Hopefully others do too.

It's not drastically different from this one but the new features make it better.

My favourite option.

Embeding Instagram posts would be nice too.

Just curious, if we all mute post(er)s we don't like and posters that don't like us mute us, then what?
