Hello Hanboo,

I have problems with some of your entries:

On page 55 you wrote, that on the UK album charts from 06/02/1971 to 10/04/1971 (8 weeks) was George Harrison's "All The Things Must Pass" at number one. But on page 51 you wrote that Simon and Garfunkel's "Bridge Over Troubled Water" was at Number one at the same time. What album was finally at this weeks at number one. I guess it was "Bridge Over Troubled Water", because I often read that this album was in UK number one for 41 weeks, including 06/02/1971 to 10/04/1971.

Then on page 17 I read that in the UK Blondie's album "Eat To The Beat" was at number 1 for one week at the 12/10/1979 (what means that "+" after the "1" and why not the 13/10/1979?), but at the same time, you wrote on page 11, began for Police's "Regatta De Blanc" the 4-weeks run of number 1. What album was number 1 on the 13/10/1979 in the UK.

The next is that on page 122 you wrote that in the UK ABC's "The Lexicon Of Love" began their 4-weeks run at number 1 at 03/07/1982. But at the 24/071982 was another number 1: The "Fame" Soundtrack. According to this "The Lexicon Of Love" was only 3 weeks at number 1.

You also wrote two different runs of Phil Collins' "...But Seriously".

On page 35 you wrote that in the US this album was at number 1 for 4 weeks. You wrote:

02/12/1989 - 82
09/12/1989 - 17
16/12/1989 - 6
23/12/1989 - 4
30/12/1989 - 1
06/01/1990 - 1
13/01/1990 - 2
20/01/1990 - 1
27/01/1990 - 1
03/02/1990 - 3
...and so on...

But on page 65 you wrote that in the US "...But Seriously" was only 3 weeks at number 1. You wrote:

02/12/1989 - 82
09/12/1989 - 17
16/12/1989 - 6
23/12/1989 - 4
30/12/1989 - 4
06/01/1990 - 1
13/01/1990 - 2
20/01/1990 - 1
27/01/1990 - 1
03/02/1990 - 3
...and so on...

I think the first version is correct because I found on billboard.com following album top 5 on the 30/12/1989:

1. ...But Seriously - Phil Collins
2. Girl You Know It's True - Milli Vanilli
3. Storm Front - Billy Joel
4. Rhythm Nation 1814 - Janet Jackson
5. Forever Your Girl - Paula Abdul

According to this, "...But Seriously" was at number 1 for 4 weeks.

I hope you answer all this questions.

Thanks.

(PS. I hope you post the US-number one albums of the 50s)

They both were. Two charts were published this week because of a change in chart collation.

informationsea wrote:Hello Hanboo,

I have problems with some of your entries:

On page 55 you wrote, that on the UK album charts from 06/02/1971 to 10/04/1971 (8 weeks) was George Harrison's "All The Things Must Pass" at number one. But on page 51 you wrote that Simon and Garfunkel's "Bridge Over Troubled Water" was at Number one at the same time. What album was finally at this weeks at number one. I guess it was "Bridge Over Troubled Water", because I often read that this album was in UK number one for 41 weeks, including 06/02/1971 to 10/04/1971.
Between the posts of page 51 and 55, I changed my UK album chart database for that period (plus a couple of weeks) to another source, Melody Maker.

I decided to do this in order to keep in synch with the Guinness chart book, in which the same action had taken place.
Cause of this was a long postal strike in the UK in 1971, which is why the Record Retailer album charts between 06/02/1971 up to 27/03/1971 were not published (or "frozen" in chart database language).

Melody Maker was still able to publish album charts, on which "All The Things Must Pass" got to #1.

informationsea wrote:Hello Hanboo,

Then on page 17 I read that in the UK Blondie's album "Eat To The Beat" was at number 1 for one week at the 12/10/1979 (what means that "+" after the "1" and why not the 13/10/1979?), but at the same time, you wrote on page 11, began for Police's "Regatta De Blanc" the 4-weeks run of number 1. What album was number 1 on the 13/10/1979 in the UK.
Quoting myself on page 1 of this thread:

The plus symbol (+) appears behind a position for the UK album chart of October 12, 1979, which is actually one of the two album charts, which were published for October 13, 1979.

NB Because of chart database requirements, I separated the two charts by giving them different dates.

informationsea wrote:Hello Hanboo,

You also wrote two different runs of Phil Collins' "...But Seriously".

On page 35 you wrote that in the US this album was at number 1 for 4 weeks. You wrote:

30/12/1989 - 1
06/01/1990 - 1
...and so on...

But on page 65 you wrote that in the US "...But Seriously" was only 3 weeks at number 1. You wrote:

30/12/1989 - 4
06/01/1990 - 1

I think the first version is correct because I found on billboard.com following album top 5 on the 30/12/1989:

1. ...But Seriously - Phil Collins
2. Girl You Know It's True - Milli Vanilli
3. Storm Front - Billy Joel
4. Rhythm Nation 1814 - Janet Jackson
5. Forever Your Girl - Paula Abdul

According to this, "...But Seriously" was at number 1 for 4 weeks.
Actually the second version I posted is correct. Always trust the latest chart info on a particular item I've posted - I continue to amend old charts in my database (hopefully for the better).

The 30/12/1989 Billboard album chart was not compiled (in those times charts were not computerized), the 06/01/1990 was compiled and published. I own both issues, so I'm sure about this.

For easy online reference the Billboard chart archive is great, but there are lots of errors and ommissions.
