aaag wrote:BTW How many weeks on UK charts(in your database) has Phantom Of The Opera Stage Cast (rel. 1987)? Old Dotmusic runs seems to have less than in the books. Just curious...
The London Cast album stayed on the chart for 102 weeks, it entered the chart on 21-Feb-1987 and peaked at #1.

The Broadway album had a run of 38 weeks, it entered the chart on 4-Feb-1989 and peaked at #45.
Hence my question. Certainly some misunderstanding (probably an error!) here. The books say it was the same album! Please, check the weeks number!
I also checked the Chartwatch 89 bulletin.
David Longbottom (who's data was based on Music Week) credits the same title as Soundtrack (til 89-04-29) and later as Original Cast (from 89-08-19 on). As if it was different album, but it wasn't!
BTW Weeks number is definitely 141 (not 140).

Thanks for the Tamia info. That's fantastic.

Could you also do one for Allure too? Cheers

This single's run is very interesting. Guinness Book simply says - 5 weeks. But Complete Book uses here unpublished (there was only Top30 then) and now calculated (!) Top50 chart for WE 78-01-07. Hence 6 weeks - 1 week more than in other sources.
My question is simple, Hanboo.
Can you calculate this Top50 singles chart and publish it here? I presume it should be based on last week positions from the consecutive chart (or something  ), like you did with other album chart a few pages ago. Anyway, what's your opinion on that matter? Thanks!

Some big discrepancies here!
First of the above albums spent 26 weeks on the charts according to both books (Guinness & Complete Book). Where those 2 weeks had gone?

Second of the two albums is even more curious as (according to both sources) Greatest Hits, Etc. peaked at No. 6! :o As one can see, according to your database the album peaked at No. 3! For 2 weeks in a row.
Also the books say 17 weeks on the chart (Complete Book gives additional info - 15 weeks between 1977 and 1978).
The only thing I can verify is 1987 2-weeks run. Chartwatch'87 gives the same data as yours, Hanboo. Comments, please? :)

I already had a calculated top 50 in my DB for that date! There's one new entry in the published top 30, so one entry of the previous top 50 had to go and that was ... Paul Simon.
Why? you'll ask. Simple, because the Guinness chart book (the Tony Smith book didn't exist at the time) only had Paul's single for the correct number of weeks, all the other "candidates" had an extra week for the calculated top 50.

Here's the chart of that week (top 30 was published in Music Week, pos.31-50 are calculated):

Why? you'll ask. Simple, because the Guinness chart book (the Tony Smith book didn't exist at the time) only had Paul's single for the correct number of weeks, all the other "candidates" had an extra week for the calculated top 50.
There are moments in your life when your brain doesn't look to work properly ... :D
OK, I admit it. I didn't understand what has been written.
So Complete Book authors added Paul Simon this 6th extra week as what? Something like place number 51? And not presented in any (calculated or not) chart? Calculated or not why Paul Simon is excluded from the presented Top50? And if it has been excluded, why counting this 6th week at all? Was it good for Complete Book including it to the statistics or Guinness Book was right? Sorry for sounding so stupid (I am trying, really ) , but I don't get it.

It's so simple. When I "calculated" pos.31-50 for the 7/1/1978 chart, I just looked at the lowest charted singles of the 31/12/1977 chart and checked the number of weeks of those singles in the Guinness book. When I came to #46, the position of "Slip Slidin' Away", I noticed that the total number of weeks was 5 according to Guinness and 5 was the number of weeks the single had charted up to that point. So my logical conclusion was that was the last week for "Slip Slidin' Away" and that this single should drop out for next week's chart.
Follow?

BTW, I knew that the Guinness editors also had calculated top 50's for the published top 30. They had said so in the introduction of early editions of the book.

I am starting to understand.
Only one question springs to mind(this is the crucial point):
Why Complete Book says the single had spent 6 weeks on the chart? Six, not five! Any idea? Thanks for help.

Thanks Hanboo!
I believe that this four songs (and "Two Hearts Beats As One" what reached #101) were the only for U2's that didn't reach the Hot 100.
I know that other songs were on the Bubbling chart as Beautiful Day, Stuck In A Moment and Electric Storm, but all reached the Hot 100 later.

Hey Hanboo!

Look, I saw at billboard.biz that these singles have appeared at BUBBLING UNDER HOT 100, so could you please tell me they're peaks?

Bjork - Human behaviour
Bjork - It's oh so quiet
Britney Spears - I'm not a girl, not yet a woman
Britney Spears - Boys
Celine Dion - Have you ever been in love
Celine Dion - I'm alive

Since now, thank you much
