YMO is the group which has affected me together with Kraftwerk for 20 years or more.
Especially YMO is the techno music of Japan suitable for liking of Japanese people.

Hey Mario.

I'm trying to find out how many copies "Merry Christmas" by Mariah Carey sold in Japan since its release in 1994. Also if you have updated numbers for Celine Dion's Christmas album "These Are Special Times", that would be great (the numbers shown on page 4 are for the first 3 months of its release only with a little over 500 000 copies sold).

Thanks a bunch!

But Oricon numbers seems to be like Soundscan ones. I mean, official numbers provided by media and companies are higher for all artists. It seems the numbers includes imports and all that stuff, similiar as how RIAA certificacions works (for example, Shania Twain's 15.2 million scanned for COO and the 19 certificacion, that's it because the 2 million sold in the BMG clubs and other similar numbers in Columnia House, shops not reporting to Soundscan, Internet sales, imports, etc.)...

All that because Mariah's numbers in Japan are higher according to official sales organizations (Billboard) and media and Sony company. Here are some experts:

(TOKYO) - Mariah
Carey's album Butterfly has sold 1.15 million copies (including imports) in its first week of release in Japan, where it is issued by Sony Records. The set, released in the territory Sept. 10, entered the Dempa Shimbun chart at No. 1--extremely rare for an album by a foreign artist. The Japanese version carries two bonus tracks, both remixed versions of "Honey."

Although domestic CD sales have suffered due to Japan's prolonged economic weakness, Sony Music said it enjoyed healthy growth in sales of foreign albums such as Carey's ``Butterfly,'' which became the first million-seller hit in Japan this year.

Japan
The album "Butterfly" stays at #1 on the Top 100 Chart. Mariah has now sold over 10 million albums in Japan. Honey is exploding at radio nationwide. The song is #1 on stations from North to South (Sapporo, Kanto, Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka, Hiroshima, Fukuoka). Mariah will tour Japan in January. Tickets went on sale October 4th, and all 4 Tokyo Dome shows sold out in 1 hour!

Mariah's on fire in Japan

Mariah Carey's album No 1's is the best-selling foreign album of all time in Japan, according to Sony (Japan). It knocked The Bodyguard soundtrack off the top spot.

No 1's has sold 3.5m copies, including imports, since being released on November 18.

Sony Music Entertainment's product manager in Japan, Tetsuya Shiroki, said: "We launched what was probably the biggest-ever promotion campaign for a foreign release in Japan. In addition to advertising the album through the usual promotional events, Sony advertised it on TV, in magazines and newspapers, and on buses and trains".

mtl2la wrote:Also if you have updated numbers for Celine Dion's Christmas album "These Are Special Times", that would be great (the numbers shown on page 4 are for the first 3 months of its release only with a little over 500 000 copies sold).

Thanks a bunch!
There is no motion in the numbers which I posted.
Only the number of weeks to which sales of Oricon stayed at the chart is reflected.
