Great to see an all-time chart of yours! I will definitely follow this. So far I like "Warwick Avenue", "My Heart Will Go On" and "Cotton Eye Joe". :D

Perhaps surprisingly, Celine Dion and Lady GaGa have only one other hit each still to come later on!

Although Debbie Harry reached number one in my chart with Blondie and "The Tide Is High", this has fallen a long way short of the top 400 - it's currently at 1028.

Jem was very unlucky to miss out on a second appearance here, however - a month ago, "Wish I" was in 400th position, but it has fallen two places because a couple of recent number ones from my current chart scored enough points in the 400th month to bring them just inside the all-time top 400! They're both coming up in tonight's update.....

Benny wrote:So far I like "Warwick Avenue", "My Heart Will Go On" and "Cotton Eye Joe". :D
.....and so is the second of three top hits appearing from Rednex! But Duffy just makes a single appearance - having only ever impressed me with one other single. That was "Stepping Stone", which peaked at number eight but spent eleven months in the top forty, and is at 536.

Thanks for the comments - the next update is in just under seven hours from now! :D

There seems to be general agreement on the more popular tracks in the first fifteen - but I wonder if there will be as many well-known choices in tonight's next sixteen, even though most of them are from the current century.....

Thirty-three years of compiling charts? :o Oh my, that's a long time! I hope I can say the same in three decades. :)

"Warwick Avenue" is good but "Mercy" is definitely the better song. "My Heart Will Go On" is legendary and I actually feel it doesn't get the deserve due to it as it's a well-written, well-delivered ballad by one of music's all-time greatest singers. It's certainly among my fave 90's classics. "The Edge of Glory" is probably my second fave from that first batch.

"Without You" is good but my sister's obsession with it has killed some of the magic for me. "Everytime" took forever to grow on me but it's one of my favourite Britney ballads now. "Only Time" is nice. I heard it for the first time the other day. The best song from the second batch is easily Cascada's "Everytime We Touch" though. Pop/Dance music doesn't get much better than that gem. 8-)

400 12 15 1996 07 VAMONOS (HEY CHICA ARE YOU READY?) Garcia

Would have never expected this in an all time chart!

398 08 11 1990 12 HOW TO DANCE Bingo Boys and Princessa
397 07 08 1986 23 MIDNIGHT LADY Chris Norman

These I remember liking.

393 03 09 2008 09 WARWICK AVENUE Duffy

Passed by this (the tube station) the other day.

392 03 09 1990 11 PROMISE ME Beverley Craven

Really don't like this, very overplayed.

389 03 12 1997 05 MY HEART WILL GO ON Celine Dion

One of the worst songs ever, actually very surprised to see you like it so much, as your taste is far from mainstream.

388 02 07 1994 08 COTTON EYE JOE Rednex

Brilliant!

386 01 09 2011 12 THE EDGE OF GLORY Lady GaGa

Not bad, but not in my top 5 gaga.
Let's have a second referendum

I think those both got a UK release - maybe some months after their success in continental Europe. But neither did anything here!

JSparksFan wrote:"Without You" is good but my sister's obsession with it has killed some of the magic for me.
That's one of three David Guetta tracks in the top 400 - although one of them, with an oblique connection to the BBC comedy series "Blackadder", might be a surprise.....

JSparksFan wrote:"Only Time" is nice. I heard it for the first time the other day.
And that was one of two number ones with rather similar titles that got to number one in my chart for Enya. "Only If" stayed in for longer, but it only stands at 582 on the all-time list!

JSparksFan wrote:The best song from the second batch is easily Cascada's "Everytime We Touch" though. Pop/Dance music doesn't get much better than that gem. 8-)
Maggie Reilly recorded it originally, in 1992 - but, with only a number 38 peak, her version is down at 2348..... Cascada's reworking is the only hit that appears in the top 400 without ever going higher than number fifteen - mainly because it hung around in my top forty for twenty-two months. Only five singles ever lasted longer - and none of those will be featuring here until the final hour! Meanwhile, Cascada have another track at some point in the week ahead.....

Haribo wrote:"Everytime" is nice.
.....but it's the one and only appearance of Britney Spears in the top 400. Quite recently, her second top forty entry was "I Wanna Go", which peaked at number four - but that ended up no higher than 766.

Now.....some seriously short songs appear in tonight's update - I was able to fit the next eighteen tracks comfortably into the third hour. Again this time the emphasis is on hits from the noughties - but there's a more recent triple-A-side, and a couple of much older television theme tunes:

370 07 10 1990 10 HEAL THE PAIN George Michael

I have to admit this passed me by, i recall being the 4th or 5th single off Listen Without pejudice, sounded pretty dull at the time, if i recall correctly.

Sandra's "Maria Magdalena" is my favourite one so far! "Everytime We Touch" by Cascada is not nearly as great as the original version by Maggie Reilly (maybe this one is yet to come ?).
Regarding "Bring Me Edelweiss", I'm sure that Abba could have never imagined such a "unique" remake of "SOS", not even in their wildest dreams .

Many thanks for so many comments today - mostly highlighting artists who have had multiple successes in my charts over the last thirty-three years!

potojr wrote:384 11 11 1985 20 CHERI CHERI LADY Modern Talking

Yeah, tell these Brits what they missed out on in 1985-86 :)
That's the first of five tracks from Dieter Bohlen and Thomas Anders in the top 400 - including the only one from them that made it big in the UK. They were close too with three others - "You're My Heart, You're My Soul" at 429, "Jet Airliner" at 452 and "In A Hundred Years" at 579 - so it's probably not difficult to guess which others are left!

potojr wrote:370 07 10 1990 10 HEAL THE PAIN George Michael

I have to admit this passed me by, i recall being the 4th or 5th single off Listen Without Prejudice, sounded pretty dull at the time, if i recall correctly.
It was just a very minor hit in the UK, I think - but it's the only George Michael single I ever liked! I still hear it played on the radio from time to time, more so than some of his much bigger sales successes.....

Lucky77 wrote:Glad to see Dolly Dots here. Dutch pop music was great in late 70s and early 80s.
There's quite a few Dutch more hits from that period still to come - some of them very close to the top! - including one more from the Dolly Dots. But it isn't the one song with which they hit number one in their homeland. "Love Me Just A Little Bit More (Totally Hooked On You)" is my third favourite of theirs, and that's at 609.

GoodBoyGoneBad wrote:364 02 10 2001 11 UNDERNEATH YOUR CLOTHES Shakira
354 05 10 2007 07 IN MY ARMS Kylie Minogue
352 04 12 2004 12 OTHER SIDE OF THE WORLD KT Tunstall

Love these, especially the first two songs!
Kylie has no less than ten songs in the top 1000 - but only this one made it into the top 400. Her next nearest were "If You Were With Me Now" at 427 and "Got To Be Certain" at 461.

Shakira, meanwhile, has seven in the top 1000 - and very nearly had three in the top 400. "Objection (Tango)" was in there until a couple of months ago, but has fallen just outside at 403. Two of her other hits peaked at number two in my monthly top forty, and one of them is quite a bit higher than "Underneath Your Clothes".....

Spartan wrote:EastEnders theme!?
I watched the programme when it first began - but gave up when it became too depressing! The theme was very nearly a top 75 hit in the UK. Simon May is also at 595 with "Julia's Theme" (a variation of the EastEnders theme) and at 920 with the "Eldorado" theme. I didn't watch that one for very long - I think the theme tune was possibly the best thing about it!

chun1702 wrote:Bring Me Edelweiss!
It might be almost impossible to believe - but the Austrian group will make another appearance higher up! And it's not with any of the three Star Trek/space-related songs that also entered my chart - the one that boldly went all the way to number one, "Starship Edelweiss" (or "Raumschiff Edelweiss") is at 779.

Benny wrote:373 15 22 2005 05 EVERYTIME WE TOUCH Cascada

No - Maggie Reilly didn't quite qualify for the top 400, but was close, at 426 with probably the not very well-known 1991 song "What About Tomorrow's Children", which peaked at number three in my top forty. But Sandra is yet another act who will return later, maybe in about a fortnight's time!

FreakyFlyBry wrote:352 04 12 2004 12 OTHER SIDE OF THE WORLD KT Tunstall

And both "Katy's" will be back again later on too - but not in tonight's new update, coming up in three and a half hours from now!
