Amos Lee's TOP 20: Part 2
Image

10. Stay With Me (Mission Bell)
A nice song to say goodbyt to this sunday.

9. All My Friends (Amos Lee)
All my friends are dear to me
Oh when the storm comes they're as close as family
All my friends are the ones I choose

8. Black River (Amos Lee)
Lovely song, simple, smooth. Love it.

7. Baby I Want You (Last Days At The Lodge)

6. Like A Virgin
imo, a fantastic version! Yes, this is a Madonna cover!

5. Careless (Supply And Demand)

4. Shout Out Loud (Supply And Demand)
Cause everybody's got a part in the game
And everybody's got a cross they can claim
And everybody's got somebody to blame
But we all must find our own way

3. Keep It Loose, Keep It Tight (Amos Lee)
His sound is familiar to Norah Jones imo. I love this lytics:
I'm in love with a girl whos in love with the world
Though I can't help but follow
Though I know someday she is bound to go away And stay over the rainbow
Got to learn how to let her go over the rainbow

2. What's Been Going On (Last Days At The Lodge)

1. Colors (Amos Lee)
LOVE this one. The lyrics are so beautiful.

I know we all, all got our faults
We get locked in our voids and make mistakes

When you're gone all the colors fade
When you're gone no New Year's Day parade
You're gone colors seem to fade

BONUS TRACK - AMOS LEE'S TOP ALBUMS

5. Mountains of Sorrow, Rivers of Song (2013) - My rating: 71.3
Image

This is his last album. It is ok but didn'treally hit me (yet).

4. Mission Bell (2011) - My rating: 72.3
Image

This is his previous to last album... I see that there is a little decline in my appreciation to his music, but still find his sound and his voice something to enjoy.

3. Supply And Demand (2006) - My rating: 73.9
Image

His second album. It was a good follow up to a very nice debut album. Something that is sometimes difficult to achieve.

2. Last Days At The Lodge (2008) - My rating: 74.5
Image

A very strong third album! The first half of the album is almost perfect.

1. Amos Lee (2005) - My rating: 79.1
Image

A beautifl first album. Some true jazz/pop gems here.

How I met... Amos Lee

Another artist taht was introduced to me by my wife when we moved in. Color was, since the first day, the song that captivates me the most.
When I saw the name in my "new" itunes library, I wanted to listen to that artist, not knowing if it was a male or female, just because of the name... yes, I am a Tori Amos fan and find it a perfect name! His sound has nothing to do with Tori's but he captivated me anyway.

Annie Lennox's TOP 20: Part 1
Image

She'll relelase a new album in October! But I am presenting her top 20 so far, maybe I will update it when Nostalgia is out :)
This chart won't include Eurythmics' songs... maybe for the update I'll extend this.

20. Stay By Me (Diva)
Her voice is outstanding, and this song is magical. I like the flute.

19. Sing (Songs Of Mass Destruction)
I like Annie's smile in this video.

18. Legend In My Living Room (Diva)
Great song, the Diva project was something unique.

17. Fingernail Moon (Songs Of Mass Destruction)

16. Train In Vain (Medusa)
I really want her to tour southamerica someday, want to see her live. Nothing too big, just an intimate session with her voice and her presence.

15. Ladies of the Canyon
A Joni Mitchell cover. I don't really know anything from Joni, ut this song is haunting.

14. Don't Let It Bring You Down (Medusa)
#Beautiful

13. I Can't Get Next To You (Medusa)

12. Dark Road (Songs Of Mass Destruction)
I've got an open door, it didn't get there by itself
It didn't get there by itself

There's a feelin' but you're not feelin' it at all
There's a meanin' but you're not listenin' any more
I look at that open road, I'm gonna walk there by myself

And if you catch me, I might try to run away
You know I can't be here too long
And if you let me I might try to make you stay
Seems you never realize a good thing till it's gone

11. Pavement Cracks (Bare)
She is very passionate while singing, really like that.

Yeay, Annie Lennox, imho maybe the best female voice in pop/rock history, although I mostly prefer the songs from the Eurythmics-period!

Annie Lennox's TOP 20: Part 2
Image

After finishing this list, I realized that I am more than ready for new Annie! Bring it girl!

10. Money Can't Buy It (Diva)
I agree with you Crazy! Diva is a very strong set of songs. Her presence, her voice, her smile, her look. Magic.

9. Downtown Lights (Medusa)

8. Waiting In Vain (Medusa)
I rememeber seeing this video for the first time and thinking "Minnie?"

7. Cold (Diva)
Very good video.

6. Little Bird (Diva)
Nice were the times when "older" woman were able to relelase an album, packed with great videos, and have radio support.
"I wish I had wings to fly away from here"

5. Precious (Diva)
Such a beautiful song.

4. No More "I Love You's" (Medusa)
I have a love/hate relationship with this song. There aree moments when I think it is FANTASTIC... but I don't like the "dubdubudubudupdup aaaa" sang by those guys there in the video... really hate it since the moment I saw the video in my teenage years... I think that is the reason it wasn't in my top 3.
Anyway, the song is heartbreaking and lovely.

3. A Whiter Shade Of Pale (Medusa)
The Medusa videos are not up to the Diva ones imo. But this is another fantastic song.

2. Walking On Broken Glass (Diva)
The rgeat John Malcovich in the video... and Hugh Laurie! I didn't remember him there.
This song is great.

1. Why (Diva)
I know, this was kind of obvious... I thought about having another #1 from her, but I just couldn't. This song is PERFECT. It really captures the feelings of a breakup. The video is superb, one of the best videos ever imo. Just saw it again and couldn't stop watching her. She is beautiful.

This is the book I never read
These are the words I never said
This is the path I'll never tread
These are the dreams I'll dream instead
This is the joy that's seldom spread
These are the tears...
The tears we shed
This is the fear
This is the dread
These are the contents of my head
And these are the years that we have spent
And this is what they represent
And this is how I feel
Do you know how I feel ?

MEdusa is very AC, and if I am not mistaken it is a covers album. It's a strange follow up to Diva imo, she kind of played it safe there, but there weren't the typical covers, so for me most of them were like new songs.

BONUS TRACK - ANNIE LENNOX'S TOP ALBUMS

4. Bare (2003) - My rating: 68.0
Image

I am not sure if this album is underapretiated by me. It has nice songs but nothing exceptional.

3. Songs Of Mass Destruction (2009) - My rating: 70.2
Image

IMO an improvement from her previous effort but still some songs that are kind of fillers. Dark Road is very nice.

2. Medusa (1995) - My rating: 79.1
Image

A very strong album! I have been checking and, as I said before, this is a cover album of songs previously recorded by male artists... something similar to Strange Little Girls by tori Amos! But that will be presented in another moment :)
I like this album very much. It is AC Pop and very listenable as a whole.

1. Diva (1992) - My rating: 82.3
Image

Very good album! I was surprised the average turned ut to be below 85, but it's because of just a couple of songs that impact the overall average.
Anyway, aside the "average", this album is very strong, the videos are quite good.

How I met... Annie Lennox

I went to Tower Records one day and saw Diva. I knew her, but before buying the album, I could not tell the name of any of her songs. Ok, in 92 I was just 12 yo and still not completely into music. But when I bought Diva it was an instant love.

Then in 95 Medusa came out and one of my high school firneds, a korean girl, was obsessed with it so we talked about her a lot. It gives me very nice memories to revisit this two albums!

Beyoncé's TOP 40: Part 1
Image
I think Crazy won't follow this thread for a coupe of days  But it is Beyoncé's time here.
I like her, and although she is not EVERYTHING to me, I believe she is a strong artist and she really challenges the audience. You may like her or not, but it is undeniable the she is a BIG performer.
This will include Destiny's Child songs as I believe that DC was Beyoncé plus some other girls (sorry)

40. Naughty Girl (Dangerously In Love)
I like naughty Beyonce. This type of songs fits her very well.

39. Bug A Boo (The Writing's On The Wall)

38. Best Thing I Never Had (4)
The song is not bad, but the fact it is just an Irrepleaceable spin-off is kind of a letdown.

37. Stay (The Writing's On The Wall)
Kind of a guilty pleasure.

36. Temptation (The Writing's On The Wall)

35. Dangerously In Love 2 (Dangerously In Love)
I prefer this version to the DC's one.

34. Blow (BEYONCÉ)

33. So Good (The Writing's On The Wall)
I like many songs fom this album but, all together, are kind of boring.

32. '03 Bonnie & Clyde (feat. Jay-Z) (Dangerously In Love)
I thought it was a Mariah feat. Usher How Much cover...

31. Love On Top (4)
I kept on reading here in UKMIX how this song was like the ebst of all time... it is very good, but it is ok to be here, closing the first set of songs, not higher.

Beyoncé's TOP 40: Part 2
Image

30. Soldier (feat. T.I. & Lil' Wayne) (Destiny Fulfilled)

29. Survivor (Survivor)
I like this song, but sometimes they scream a little too much so I have to stop it earlier. But all in all is a good track.

28. Deja Vu (feat. Jay-Z) (B'Day)
B'Day is a mixed-feelings album. There are times i LOVE this song, but others I think it is kind of flat. Same happens to me with many of the tracks there. That's why I was surprised when this album won the ClashofAges game.

27. Drunk in Love (feat. Jay-Z) (BEYONCÉ)
I think I was too harsh with this one! so low... while listening to it making this post I thought it is a very strong song. I won't change the ranking now but if revisiting it in the future this can be a top 20 at least.

26. Radio (I Am... Sasha Fierce)
I really like this one!

25. Cater 2 U (Destiny Fulfilled)
Her smooth R&B sons are very good.

24. Party (feat. J. Cole) (4)
This is one of my favs from 4.

23. Work It Out (Dangerously In Love)
So Tina Turner here!!!! I love when she emulates Tina.

22. Independent Women, Part I (Survivor)
ok... a very girlie song but I like it. This was the song that made me realize DC existed, I bought TWOTW and Survivor because of this and then got hooked.

21. Smash Into You (I Am... Sasha Fierce)
BEAUTIFUL song to end this set. I saw her live in Buenos aires during this tour. Great show.

I can understand why's so shouted, but I agree, sometimes it refrains me from listening to it.

I honestly can't see much of Tina apart from the afro hairdo. Beyoncé's vocals are quite tame compared to Tina and even to more recent B songs like Schoolin' Life.

I see a lot of Tina in Beyonce. No the vocals but the attitudfe and the dancing and the presence. But never as a copy but more like Tina somehow helped Beyonce to find the best way to express herself.

Beyoncé's TOP 40: Part 3
Image

20. Me Myself & I (Dangerously In Love)

19. Bills, Bills, Bills (The Writing's On The Wall)
I think B pushed some boundaries with this sound.

18. Be With You (Dangerously In Love)
Very nice R&B song.

17. Jealous (BEYONCÉ)
This song is growing on me day after day.

16. XO (BEYONCÉ)
Great song! Another one that at the beginning where "good" songs but now I think they are really beautiful. I also enjoy the John Mayer cover!

15. Sweet Dreams (I Am... Sasha Fierce)

14. Jumpin, Jumpin (The Writing's On The Wall)
I really like this bouncing song,

13. Disappear (I Am... Sasha Fierce)

12. Listen (B'Day)
I didn't enjoy Dreamgirls, but this song is imo very good.

11. If I Were A Boy (I Am... Sasha Fierce)
GREAT song.

BONUS TRACK - BEYONCE'S TOP ALBUMS PART 1

9. Destiny's Child (1998) - My rating: 66.5
Image

A GREAT year for R&B, but this album is flat imo. Only songs that I "like" (none of them really good for me) are:
Second Nature
No, No, No Part 2 (featuring Wyclef Jean)
Tell Me
No, No, No Part 1
Sail On

8. Survivor (2001) - My rating: 71.8
Image

Thsi album has better songs, but also a bunch of fillers so the average is just above 70. But at least she delivered some good tracks here! Anyway, it was a step down from TWOTW which is very very good.

7. Destiny Fulfilled (2004) - My rating: 72.0
Image

Third DC album in a row... Not different things to say about this one.

6. B'Day (2006) - My rating: 73.4
Image

Of all her solo albums, I find this one the weakest. Anyway, all albums are good in general.

5. Dangerously In Love (2003) - My rating: 73.9
Image

She looks with much more color in this cover comparing to the rest :-? . The album was a good step ahead from the last DC albums imo.

4. 4 (2011) - My rating: 74.8
Image

I like this album. I think it has a more wstrong set of songs, with almost all of them good ones, something that before this album was not that common for me.

How I met... Beyoncé
Watching E! and seeing all the info surrounding Independent Women Part I catched my attention. I bought Survivor and then The Writing's On the Wall, and that was when I decided to follow them, but always ralizing that Beyoncé was the true thing behind the group. When DIL was released she convinced me of her greatness. I don't think she is THAT fantastic, but from a subjective point of view. It is undeniable to admit that she is a strong artist and I respect her a lot.

Beyoncé's TOP 40: Part 4
Image

10. I Was Here (4)
I like some inspirational songs once in a while. This one is very touching.

9. Check On It (feat. Slim Thug) (#1's)

8. Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It) (I Am... Sasha Fierce)
Fantastic video (I agree with Kanye lol). A little too girlie again, but it's really catchy.

7. Pretty Hurts (BEYONCÉ)
Great lyrics and video. An instant favourite when I listened to BEYONCÉ for the first time. A perfect introduction for a strong album.
Pretty hurts
Shine the light on whatever's worse
Perfection is the disease of a nation
Pretty hurts
Shine the light on whatever's worse
Tryna fix something
But you can't fix what you can't see
It's the soul that needs the surgery

6. Bootylicious (Survivor)
Crazy sample. Love this. I know many people hate it, but I really love this one. Prevented Mariah to reach #1 with Loverboy, but no matter what I can't hate it  . (probably Mariah prevented herself to reach #1)

5. Irreplaceable (B'Day)
I just can't say nothing negative, only that it was a mosnter hit so I kind of get tired of it, but the truth is taht it became a mosnter hit becasue it is a strong record.

4. Halo (I Am... Sasha Fierce)
Love this one, it is part of my wedding soundtrack so great memories arise everytime I listen to this one. Blame Ryan Tedder that so many songs sound THE SAME around this period of time. (Already Gone by Kelly Clarkson is exactly the same song!)

3. Say My Name (The Writing's On The Wall)
The first song that I was completely hooked about.

2. Heaven (BEYONCÉ)
I wanted to put this @ #1, but decided not to, that a more upbeat song should be there. But this song is extremely close to my heart. My brother passed away 2 years ago and when I hear this song I just cannot stop thinking about him. I am the kind of person that keep it all inside so this song helps me get out of my the pain. May be masochistic, but I really need to listen to this song once in a while.

1. Crazy In Love (feat. Jay-Z) (Dangerously In Love)
Excellent song. She is on fire in the video. Standing ovation.

BONUS TRACK - BEYONCE'S TOP ALBUMS PART 2

3. BEYONCÉ (2013) - My rating: 75.9
Image
When this album was released I thought it was a masterpiece. I think the methodology was excellent, that she really surprised everyone but at the same time the quality of the production, of the videos and of the songs were superb. In time I reduced my passion towards this one, but I still find it a strong album.

2. The Writing's On The Wall (1999) - My rating: 77.5
Image
Very good album. Another one that I almost like every song. Great production, distinctive sound. For me this hasn't aged.

1. I Am... Sasha Fierce (2008) - My rating: 79.4
Image
For me, this is her creative peak. I don't lie it was a 2 CD set, when both CDs were kinda short. But the quality of the songs was amazing and her moves, the videos, everything is really star power.
