BONUS TRACK - BON JOVI's TOP ALBUMS PART 3: 4-1

4. Blaze Of Glory (1990) - My rating: 77.5
Image
Amazing album. Very country infused songs that I really love. First solo effort from Jon.

3. Keep The Faith (1992) - My rating: 77.9
Image
The 1986-1992 yeras are their best. Excellent songs that still today sound great, they didn't aged a day imo. In this album they started to switch in their music style to a more ballad oriented thing which eventually affected my love for them.

2. Slippery When Wet (1986) - My rating: 78.8
Image
An album with several 80's classics! You Give Love A Bad Name, Livin' On A Prayer & Wanted Dead Or Alive.

1. New Jersey (1988) - My rating: 80.0
Image
Another classic packed album! The first three songs are fantastci: Lay Your Hands On Me, Bad Medicine & Born To Be My Baby.

How I Met... Bon Jovi
My brother was a big fan of many 80s popular bands/artists, but as the 90s started his musical taste changed (more argentinan rock bands or things like Suicidal Tendencies, Cypress Hill...).
So he gave me some of his cassettes telling me that I would like them. I was around 11 yo and had in my hands New Jersey. It was a very interesting collection that he gave me back then now that I recall, Roxette's Look Sharp and Madonna's True Blue... but that will be part of other "How I Met" moments.
So he gave me New Jersey and I liked it. Then I bought Blaze of Glory and I also liked it, but it wasn't until I learnt that the girl that I liked at school was a big BJ fan that I decided to really listen to them.

Brandi Carlile's TOP 20: Part 1
Image

20. Save Part Of Yourself (Bear Creek)
A nice acoustic song to start this. I always like acosutic songs with calpping.

19. If There Was No You (Give Up The Ghost)
If you were my boat in the deep blue sea
I'd probably sink you down

18. In The Morrow (Bear Creek)
I like this singer-songwriter style. Many people mentioned she is similar to KT Tunstall, which could be possible although Brandi is much more country oriented imo.

17. Hard Way Home (Bear Creek)

16. Caroline (Give Up The Ghost)
There's a version featuring Elton John but I prefer this olo version (which is in the album).

15. Pride And Joy (Give Up The Ghost)
Beautiful songs. Lovely lyrics.

No one tells you when its time
There are no warnings, only signs

All your mountains turn to rocks
All your oceans turn to drops
They are nothing like you thought
You can't be something you are not

14. A Promise To Keep (Bear Creek)
A beautiful song about losing someone.

13. Fall Apart Again (Brandi Carlile)

I don't dream because I cannot sleep
And I think the world of myself
But the world doesn't think much of me

12. Hiding My Heart (The Story)
I thought this was an Adele's cover but it was the other way around.

11. Follow (Brandi Carlile)

Follow your heart and see where it might take you
Don't let the world outside there break you
They know not who you are inside
They have never felt your hell
Don't ever let them crack

Hold out I know you feel it getting cold out
Without the blanket for your soul now
Before you know it you'll be frozen
You have to see this through
There's no one here but you

How I Met... Brandi Carlile

Another artist I found out when moving in with my wife. I was intrigued by her raw voice, and the fact she was a female singer-songwriter was very promising. I think I like ALL of her songs.

My #1 song (which is still to be presented) was used during my wedding day. In Argentina you generally make a clip where pictures of the couple are shown (from the moment each is born until the wedding day) and you have to choose a song to musicalize the clip. It was like an instant decision we made when we were picking the pictures to share. The clip is very nice and we couldn't have picked a better song.

She is someone I could never get into fully, probably because of the country elements, but her music is pleasant enough for me!

I get your point. I really like her but her 4 albums are very country influneced, and so if you don't really like that genre then she won't be interesting enough. I like the sound and therefore I enjoy her, but I think she should explore new sounds in the future.

Brandi Carlile's TOP 20: Part 2
Image

10. Have You Ever (The Story)

9. Happy (Brandi Carlile)
I love the guitar and her voice here.

8. My Song (The Story)
And sometimes seeming happy can be self destructive

7. Dying Day (Give Up The Ghost)
A ncie love song.

6. Closer To You (Brandi Carlile)

5. Looking Out (Give Up The Ghost)
And when I asked a corner preacher
I couldn't hear him for my youth
Some people get religion
Some people get the truth

4. Turpentine (The Story)

3. What Can I Say (Brandi Carlile)

2. Again Today (The Story)
I love how this song starts very quiet and turns into a butiful and heartful song.

Because I'm your hero and you're my weakness

1. The Story (The Story)
I just LOVE this song. In the Album Cup it was badly received, but anyway I believe it is beautiful and is my wife & mine favourite.
All of these lines across my face
Tell you the story of who I am
So many stories of where I've been
And how I got to where I am
But these stories don't mean anything
When you've got no one to tell them to
It's true, I was made for you

Sure Crazy! Feel free to comment anytime! You are always welcome

Yes, they have similarities. I think KT has more variety in her style but their voices are similar.

Christina Aguilera TOP 30: Part 1
Image

30. Welcome (Back To Basics)
I have mixed feelings regarding Christina. I liked her at the beggining but then I lost interest. Then I hated her. Then I regain interest. But all in all she is an artist that I follow and that I think may bring big things in the future, if she wants to.

29. I Turn To You (Christina Aguilera)
It was a good pop ballad back then.

28. We Remain
I haven't seen these movies, but the song is quite good.

27. Genie In A Bottle (Christina Aguilera)
I think it is a good first single. Here I am sharing the spanish version. She pronounces perfectly.

26. Blank Page (Lotus)
I think this album is her best so far. So I am hoping next efforts will be better and that she proves me what she is capable of.

25. Sing For Me (Lotus)

24. Light Up The Sky (Lotus)
She could have made some good videos from these last songs, they are very visual.

23. You Lost Me (Bionic)
This album imo is very weird. I just don't see her in most of the songs. This one is quite nice and her voice is more controlled. The video is very good.

22. Oh Mother (Back To Basics)

21. Best Of Me (Lotus)
Very powerful song.

Christina Aguilera's TOP 30: Part 2
Image

20. Come On Over (All I Want Is You) (Christina Aguilera)
I think she did fine to change the album version here.

19. Soar (Stripped)
I think this type of songs are her strength.

18. Cruz (Stripped)
I think what Sia is today regarding songwritting is equal to what Linda Perry was at the beginning of this century.

17. Cease Fire (Lotus)
I like this break-up song. I like when Christina gets this honest in her lyrics.

16. Empty Words (Lotus)

15. I Am (Bionic)
One of the few good moments in Bionic for me. But this is very nice.

14. The Voice Within (Stripped)
Nice song, I like the video and how the songs grows.

13. Makes Me Wanna Pray (Back To Basics)
This album is pretty good, but as it was a 2CD turned out a little too long IMO. Highlights of both albums in only one would have been a perfect set.

12. Can't Hold Us Down (featuring Lil' Kim) (Stripped)
This is the first song that I reallly liked from her.

11. Army Of Me (Lotus)
Again, this type of songs are herstrenght. But she is kind of the victim all the time... Always somebody else pulling her down but she raises like a phoenix, stronger, wiser, fighter, bla bla bla
But I like it anyway!

Christina Aguilera's TOP 30: Part 3
Image

10. Lady Marmalade (with Lil' Kim, Mýa and Pink)
Moulin Rouge is one of my all time fav movies, soanything related to that is good.

9. Back In The Day (Back To Basics)
A highlight from this album.

8. Dirrty (featuring Redman) (Stripped)
I like the song, I think that she wanted to go just a little too far with it and ended up eclipsing the fact that Stripped was a very good album.

7. Lift Me Up (Bionic)
The best song from Bionic imo. Again, you can see that when she relaxes and make a more heartful song she can really deliver.

6. Hurt (Back To Basics)
Great performance here. I was surprised back then that she chose this song as a single. And gladly surprised whan it was quite succesfull.

5. Ain't No Other Man (Back To Basics)
Very good move to make this album. The song is good! ONly thing is that the album was quite long imo, no need for 2CDs. She gained a lot of respect from me after this release. Unluckily, Bionic followed...

4. Fighter (Stripped)
Great video.

3. Beautiful (Stripped)
Undoubtly a strong record. Her voice, the production & the lyrics are perfect.

2. Nobody Wants to Be Lonely (with Ricky Martin)
Great pop song!

1. Candyman (Back To Basics)
Great for her to make this record, to release as a single and for making such a fun video.

Glad you like it! In the album cup it was reaaally low (ended up @ ·15 out of 20) but I loke it so much.

Lol It is indeed a very "written-for-weddings" song! Good guess!

If you haven't yet, you should check out Katie Melua, Natalie Merchant, Sia and The Innocence Mission. All amazing female vocals, I think you might like them. Not sure if you remember, I nominated TIM in a past album cup. Thinking of nominating Katie or Sia in the future as well. If you plan on checking something out, let me know so I can recommend albums/songs, as the catalogues are always so diverse.

I have many things from Katie, Natalie and Sia. I still need to catch up with their recent releases.

I am interested with The Innocence Mission! Do share with me which albums should I check! I don't remember them from TAC so I'll go and check that one. Thanks!

Oh yes, the most recent albums from Katie and Natalie are stellar!

From TIM, I nominated Befriended in the Cup, it is my fave album by them. You should also try Small Planes or We Walked in Song!

Oh and you might also like the ex-Sugababe Siobhan Donaghy, her album Ghosts is one of the most underrated gems ever.

BONUS TRACK - CHRISTINA AGUILERA's TOP ALBUMS

6. Mi Reflejo (2000) - My rating: 64.5
Image
A highly publicized album here in Argentina. I have to admit her pronunciation was excellent. She has latin roots (her father was from Ecuador), but also has Mariah Carey (father from Venezuela) and the results in spanish couldn't be more different!
Back to Christina, this album was just a commercial move, and I hated it. She was everywhere saying how much she wanted to have artistic credibilitiy, that she wanted to make her own music with songs similar to Mariah Carey's Vanishing (she said this in a local newspaper interview) that when she released this set of nonsense made me despise it.

5. Bionic (2010) - My rating: 67.8
Image
After Back To Basics, a succesfull and original record, she made this Lady GaGa's leftovers set of songs. There are some good momentos, but all in all is a very forgetable effort.

4. Christina Aguilera (1999) - My rating: 71.3
Image
A good first album. Most songs have aged a little, and you can see that they are not her own songs, but it was a way to introduce herself and then to have the chance to make a more personal record as Stripped.

3. Back To Basics (2006) - My rating: 73.0
Image
I think this album should have been higher, but as I mentioned before, I find it too long. There are many songs that are just ok so they average down the whole effort. Anyway, it was a very itneresting move, with some pop gems here.

2. Stripped (2002) - My rating: 74.1
Image
Very good record. Again she makes the mistake of adding too many songs, most of them just fillers. But I think this was a really strong record which should have been introduced by any other song instead of Dirrty (which I like but it was just a little too much, specially because of the video)

1. Lotus (2012) - My rating: 74.4
Image
I am glad to see that her last effort is her best for me, because I really think she is someone that will blow my mind someday with a strong and personal set.
If I also take into consideration that after this she released Say Something, I truly believe that her next album will be superb.

How I Met... Christina Aguilera

Genie In A Bottle was everywhere. I liked it, and from all the batch of new popular artists back then I thought she was the most promising one, with a more R&B oriented sound that I was more interested in. I don't consider myself a Chrisitna Aguilera fan, in fact sometimes I can be very tough on her, but that's because i am always waiting for her to do what I have been expecting since that day that I listened Genie In A Bottle for the first time.

Coldplay's TOP 30: Part 1
Image

30. Politik (A Rush Of Blood To The Head)
This type of sound is very characteristic on their two first albums.

29. Warning Sign (A Rush Of Blood To The Head)
A beautiful video from the times when Grey's Anatomy was good (just the first 3 seasons).

Like the lyrics, especially how he sings the chorus...

A warnin' sign
It came back to haunt me, and I realized
That you were an island, and I passed you by
And you were an island, to discover

Come on in
I've gotta tell you, what a state I'm in
I've gotta tell you in my loudest tones
That I started lookin' for a warnin' sign, yeah

When the truth is, I miss you
Yeah, the truth is, that I miss you so
And I'm tired, I should not have let you go

28. Lovers In Japan (Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends)
Sometimes even the right is wrong

27. Ink (Ghosts Stories)
A nice song to listen to while driving.

26. Hurts Like Heaven (Mylo Xyloto)
Great video! One day I'll try to get the whole story.

25. Don't Panic (Parachutes)

24. Strawberry Swing (Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends)
Very interesting video.

23. God Put A Smile Upon Your Face (A Rush Of Blood To The Head)
Where do we go, nobody knows
Don't ever say you're on your way down, when
God gave you style and gave you grace
And put a smile upon your face

22. Charlie Brown (Mylo Xyloto)

21. Talk (X&Y)
Well I feel like they're talking in a language I don't speak
And they're talking it to me

Coldplay's TOP 30: Part 2
Image

20. Magic (Ghosts Stories)
A very nice video. I enjoy a lot this song, I find it is a little different from what Coldplay gets me used to.

19. In My Place (A Rush Of Blood To The Head)
Another classic Coldplay sound from the initial times.

18. A Message (X&Y)
Sometimes some songs get you no matter what they are talking about... I really connect each time when he sings "You don't have to be on your own"

17. 42 (Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends)
Beautiful.
Those who are dead are not dead
They're just living in my head

16. Shiver (Parachutes)
They are so young and carefree in this video! The Space Invaders T-Shirt is great.

15. A Sky Full of Stars (Ghosts Stories)
I regret now placing this song ahead of Shiver... but it is done. I enjoy the video a lot, they look like having fun.

14. Violet Hill (Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends)
I like the video and the sound a ot, think it was very promising.

13. Yellow (Parachutes)
In a disastrous reality TV show called "The Bar" here in Argentina, which I couldn't stop watching, one of the contestants played this song. That's when I decided to get the album as I thought the song was interesting.

12. Speed Of Sound (X&Y)
I like the piano and the fact this song makes me dance.

11. Paradise (Mylo Xyloto)

LOL As I told you before I saw that we had some points in common regarding music, but also some differences! I like Coldplay, you like Ke$ha!!

Next artist will be Diana Krall. I love some jazz songs and she has a beautiful voice. But as never read her name around here I think I'll be alone posting here  Will do it anyway lol.

Thanks Crazy for your comments! I really enjoy reading other peoples feelings regarding the songs that I like. So thanks for the time!
