This year, "25" could end up selling ~30 times as much as the #100 best-selling album of the year at this rate :o :o
Assuming "25" will hit ~6 million at the end of the year, and the #100 best-selling album of the year sells ~200k

Completely unprecedented domination :o :o

The previous record was "21" in 2011, selling 18.77 times as much as the #100 best-selling album in 2011

And it's even more ridiculous when you consider how briefly 25 will have been available.
Kendrick, Beyoncé, and Radiohead are giving me life right now.

Thriller must've sold 10m-13m in 1983, the market at the time was about 80% larger than it is today. So its domination that year must've been pretty close to what 25 looks to be pulling off this year.

More like 70% My guess is that Thriller sold about 30x as much as the #100 album in 1983, and about 23x as much in 1984. Also, the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack must have done the same in 1978 (30x as much).

03 - 4,703,000 - RECOVERY - Eminem
04 - 4,539,000 - SPEAK NOW - Taylor Swift
05 - 4,254,000 - RED - Taylor Swift
06 - 4,101,000 - FROZEN - Soundtrack

Unless HITS is wildly out, "25" will be the 9th biggest selling album of the decade after just 1 week on sale.

Interesting list.......1989 - Taylor Swift may make the list for 2015 (right below 21 Adele for 2012) since 1989 is11.87x as much as the # 100 best-selling album as of week 47
Red took 5 weeks to hit 2m in US sales. Speak Now took 6. Fearless took 7. Taylor Swift took 61. 1989 hit 2m in 3 weeks...

I don't think that even Thriller did what 25 is doing now. Adele's 25 hogged monstrous 52% of combined sales of the Top 1000 selling albums in the States last week: http://ajournalofmusicalthings.com/get- ... ted-often/. :o I've heard of it having several million-selling weeks but never anything over three. I'm aware that album sales these days are more front-loaded than ever and 25 has yet to prove its longevity. However, I do believe that what Adele did last week and will do this week in the US, is unprecedented.

So everyone knows the 3.4 million Adele sold in the United States in the new albums first week. But what about worldwide. http://www.mediatraffic.de has an estimate on the worldwide total. Their estimate is that 25 sold 5,706,000 copies in its first week worldwide which is also a record. At 5,706,000 copies sold worldwide with 3,378,000 copies of that figure in the United States, that means 59% of all of Adele's 25 album sales come from the United States. The United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and New Zealand figure comes out to 4,629,100 for these 5 native English speaking countries. That's 81% of the global total coming from just 5 countries. So the global total is heavily skewed toward the native English speaking countries.

Often, new albums that do well worldwide sell around 35% to 40% of the total in the United States, so 59% for 25 shows unusually strong support from the United States although not as high as someone like Taylor Swift who will usually get 75% of her support from the United States.

Anyone know the physical vs digital breakdown for Adele's 25 album sales in the United States?

^^ Billboard says its "international sales through the first week are in the 7 million range". Whether that's shipments or sales they don't say - though MediaTraffic admitted their estimate might be too low.

As for the digital/physical split in the US:
1.71 million CDs
22,000 on vinyl
1.64 million digital copies.
