"Just A Dream" was, but "Independence Day" was just the B-side to her American Idol coronation single "Inside Your Heaven" (and she performed it at least once during the competition.) It was originally by Martina McBride.

phoenix98 wrote:Are you a big fan of P!nk in general? I'm not, but i loved the first Alice movie and its soundtrack so that's probably also why i'm liking "Just Like Fire" that much.
I've never bought an album of hers, but I've really loved a lot of her singles, so I probably should  Her biggest hits on my chart have been "Heartbreak Down" (No. 2 peak, 20 weeks on the chart), "Just Give Me A Reason" (No. 3, 14 weeks), and "F**kin' Perfect" (No. 2, 11 weeks), among others. Has she had any big hits here before "Just Like Fire", or do you REALLY not like her? ;)

• I never really listen to metal, but your No. 1 is pretty enjoyable! The chorus is surprisingly catchy, definitely not as hard/aggressive as I'd expect. Reminds me of Evanescence a bit.
• Lovin' the jump for "One Dance" into your Top 20!
• Yikes - "Be Alright" has been falling HARD :o If it only spends 6 weeks on your chart (and never re-enters), would that be a record for a No. 1 hit?

Yet another thrilling chart, Tansike! :D

Yes, "Storyteller" actually surpassed "Blown Away" and is my favorite album by her now :o

Magnus wrote:I think it was the first three. Then I listened again to a bit of "Karate" now that it charted on your singles chart, but now I mostly just found it irritating...

I checked out the Tarja song and it was quite good, and of course very unsurprising it is #1 on your chart .

I like most of the ESC songs charting this week, especially Austria and Croatia, but also Russia, Australia, Azerbaijan and Belarus. I'm not too crazy about the songs from Iceland, France or Sweden though. I'm also a little surprised the Swiss entry isn't charting, considering you wrote positively about it in one of the ESC threads. Another one that has been growing on me is Italy (Francesca Michielin - No Degree of Separation). What do you think of that?

I also checked out "The Sound of Silence", at first not realizing it was a cover. It's rather interesting for a cover and also sounds very different from the other songs I've heard (and not liked) by Disturbed. I also never listened much to the original (although of course I'm familiar with it) which is a plus when it comes to the chance of a cover becoming a "hit" with me. Interesting that there are two songs on your chart with the same title except for a "the"; that (unlike with the exact same title) has never happened on my chart as far as I'm aware.

Interesting to see the Eurovision compilation at #2 on the albums chart, could it climb to #1 next week maybe? Great for Carrie to get another week in the top 3!
Oh really? Then you will be happy about its drop this week

Surprised you liked Tarja's song, really happy to hear that! Haha true, and there's probably another unsurprising #1 this week

Glad to hear you like all those ESC entries. A few of your faves will climb even further this week as i've started to really get into the ESC tracks. Surprised you don't like Iceland that much, i thought it could be one of the songs you really like. Maybe it grows on you. As for Sweden, i'm already over it and now i think it's one of the worst songs, while France is becoming a favorite to win the contest in the odds :o The swiss entry will debut this week :) Rykka's keeps on growing on me... i thought it was bland until like two weeks ago, now i'm actually hoping for her to reach the final  When it comes to Italy, it's solid, but i don't see it making it onto my charts as it belongs to the weakest songs this year for me...

Yes, it's really different for Disturbed, that's probably also why they are getting a hit with it  Haha yes, i noticed the same. Thank god there's a 'the' in one and none in the other one, so it's easier while compiling the charts (i'm usually only working with song titles while compiling the Top40).

Ah thanks for clearing up! Just listened to both and "Just A Dream" sounds good, while "Independence Day" was okayish, but clearly the weaker song of both.

Haha maybe you could buy the next one if you like the single? I actually bought her last one, which is the only one from P!nk i own though.
She had six entries before "Just Like Fire": "Dear Mr. President" (#5, 2 weeks), "So What" (#4, 9 weeks), "Raise Your Glass" (#20, 1 week), "Try" (#3, 6 weeks), "Just Give Me A Reason" (#9, 16 weeks, certified with Gold) and "True Love" (#31, 1 week). "Just Like Fire" should easily become her third most successful single on my charts, maybe even second most depending on its longevity :)

Thanks for checking Tarja out, she's one of my favorite artists and could release a fart and probably still get a #1 hit here... she's awesome. Surprised you actually enjoyed "No Bitter End" though, as even i think it's a bit cheesy and her second worst single to date.
Drake will keep on climbing now that the album is out. I can see "One Dance" becoming quite a big hit to be honest.
Interesting question... i never thought about that and i don't have a list with #1 songs and weeks spent on charts, but i just made a little research. I've found two songs from 2014 which peaked at #1 and only spent 6 weeks on the charts ("Black Widow" by Iggy and the german ESC entry "Is It Right?" by Elaiza) but that's it :o I don't count singles before 2013 as i only extended my charts from a Top20 to a Top40 at the beginning of 2013.

Thanks a lot :D

thanks so much for all comments

week 18/2016 – 5 may 2016 Ke$ha is blossoming

Image
    Singles Top40
Kerli pulled a Beyoncé and showed who the real queen is by surprise-releasing her newest single “Blossom” last thursday evening, alongside its stunning music video. The track becomes her eleventh number one single out of eleven entries total, with six of them being released with Kerli as the lead artist, four of them with her as the featuring artist and one of them being a collaboration with another artist. “Blossom” serves as the second official single from her upcoming, yet untitled third studio album, and marks the first time she’s getting two entries on the singles charts with songs from one album, and only the second time since 2012 she released two singles in one year. The first single “Feral Hearts”, which reigned the weekly charts for three weeks earlier this year, leaves the Top20 for its first time after ten weeks (17-21).

It was actually a quiet week when it comes to new entries compared to last week, as there are only four more new arrivals. Ke$ha finally makes a return to the charts with the help of german DJ and producer Zedd, who already scored a huge hit alongside Ariana Grande with “Break Free” (9 weeks at #1 in 2014, a total of 45 weeks on the charts). Their new single “True Colors” debuts at #2, being Ke$ha’s first Top10 entry since “Crazy Kids” debuted atop of the charts three years ago. Ke$ha scored several very successful hits during 2010 to 2012, with her first two eras being finally certified with week. Another dance/pop collaboration makes the charts a bit lower, as Calvin Harris and Rihanna debut at #28 with their new single “This Is What You Came For”. The final two new entries of the week are “1944” by Jamala and “The Last Of Our Kind” by Rykka, two songs from the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest.

Speaking about the ESC… several songs that entered the charts a week ago are able to rise a lot this week. Ivan, who represents Belarus, has the biggest and probably also most surprising climb as “Help You Fly” is up 34-3. Austrian represent Zoë rises 38-9 with “Loin d’ici”, followed by the french entry “J’ai cherché” by Amir (22-10). There’s a fourth contest related entry in the Top10 as Greta Salome’s “Hear Them Calling” slips 4-6. Lena’s “Beat To My Melody” (3-4), Tarja’s “No Bitter End” (1-5), Carrie Underwood’s “Storyteller” (2-7) and Zara Larsson & MNEK’s “Never Forget You” (11-8) fill out the Top10.

While the ESC was already the main topic of my charts last week, it’s likely to remain the reason behind most entries on the charts for another three to four weeks. Nina Kraljic is about to reach the Top10 as well, as “Lighthouse” increases 21-11, australian entry “Sound Of Silence” by Dami Im is up 25-14 and Samra’s “Miracle” enters the upper half of the charts too (28-20). Sergey Lazarev’s “You Are The Only One” may fall several spots this week as it’s down 10-17, but he brings the ESC entries in the Top20 to eight. Apart from the two already mentioned new entries Jamala and Rykka, Jamie-Lee’s “Ghost” is the last emtry from the contest (27-40).

It’s no surprise to see several other songs falling a few spots this week, it’s actually an even bigger surprise to see a few of them rising a few spots. Drake is one of these climbers, as his single “One Dance” reaches a new peak for a fourth consecutive week by rising 20-13. It ties the peak of Rihanna’s “Work” now, but is still ten places away from Rihanna’s “What’s My Name”, both being Drake’s only other entries on my charts so far. Also climbing is Disturbed with their cover of “The Sound Of Silence”, as it’s up 18-16 after its debut a week ago. Also worth a mention are Birdy’s “Wild Horses” (30-30) and Tom Odell’s “Wrong Crowd” (29-31), as both are surprisingly stable. They could pick up again once the ESC-craziness is over, if they actually survive that craziness.

Ivan’s “Help You Fly” is the biggest climber, while Babymetal’s “Karate” (6-24) is the biggest loser this week.

    Album Top20
Not less than four new entries made the album charts this week, and all of them even made it onto the better half. It’s probably not the biggest surprise to see the compilation of the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 taking the crown though, as it rises 2-1 after its debut a week ago, as there are already lots of successful songs from the contest on the singles charts. And speaking about new entries and the contest, three of the new arrivals are albums by artists who will take part on the contest this year. The highest debut goes to Jamie-Lee, who debuts at #3 with her debut album “Berlin”. The set spawned the very successful single “Ghost”, which is Jamie-Lee’s winner single from The Voice Of Germany, but also the song that represents Germany at the ESC. Babymetal are sandwiched between these two, as their “Metal Resistance” dips 1-2.

Canadian rapper and singer Drake owns the second highest arrival, as his new set “Views” debuts at #4. It’s his very first notation on the album charts and is predicted to sell around a million copies in its first week in the US – while being only released on iTunes and Apple Music so far! The other debuts are “Debut” by Austrian singer Zoë at #5 and “Au coeur de moi” by French singer Amir at #7. Carrie Underwood’s “Storyteller” (3-6), Gwen Stefani’s “This Is What The Truth Feels Like” (5-8), Rachel Platten’s “Wildfire” (6-9) and Disturbed’s “Immortalized” (4-10) fill out the Top10.

After a pretty good five-week-chartrun in the Top10, Birdy’s “Beautiful Lies” leaves the upper half of the charts for the first time (10-12). Also leaving that part of the charts are “Crystal Sky” by Lena (7-14), “Cry Baby” by Melanie Martinez (9-15) and “Für Dich” by Vanessa Mai, which tumbles down 8-17. The Lumineers are also falling a lot, as “Cleopatra” is down 11-18 in its fourth week, while Selena Gomez’ “Revival” (13-11) and Seven Lions’ “Creation” EP (16-13) are climbing a few spots, despite the competition above them.

Catching up from my previous comments. :P

Tansike wrote:Hey Jake! :)

Glad to hear you love "Hear Them Calling" as well. Let's hope she can go through the final as it seems not really sure. But her staging is truly incredible, i'm loving the whole performance + her voice is strong too. I feel the same way with the semi finals btw.
From all my absolute favourites, Iceland is the one country who i really wanna see qualify for the final. I think i'll get goosebumps if i get to watch their performance on the night of the final. It really is a complete package, fantastic singer, song and staging. If any country deserve to win this year it's Iceland.

Tansike wrote:Don't worry, it will continue to climb this week now that the album is out as well. But there's a lot going on when it comes to singles lately, so the competition is still very strong at the moment.
Have you bought Views or heard any of the tracks. I've discovered a new favourite Drake song which i think is even better than One dance. That song is Too good which is "too good"! I hope its the next single as it really does sound amazing to me. Its so so superior to the dreadful Work, and i even prefer it to What's my name? from a few years back.

Tansike wrote:You're not? :o This was love on first listen. I think she would be a good winner as well and i'm already excited how she'll sound live :)
Which are the horror ones? I think there are no weak songs this year - even the worst song is solid for me :o
Aww, i just didn't really feel anything from the song. Lighthouse is a pleasant song but i never feel like going back to listening to the song again so i know when a song has made an impact on me, and Croatia's entry hasn't. :(

As for horrors, i'm surprised there's not a single song you don't like from this years 42 entries. Well, 43 if you include Romania but that was one of the songs i didn't like. My least favourite is the Montenegro song, followed by Georgia, San Marino (it's funny but not a good song), Greece, Ukraine (who i usually like but really can't get into their entry this year) and Sweden (only because it's such a disappointing step down in quality imo).

Tansike wrote:Yes, Azerbaijan is definitely one of the best countries lately, which is even more surprising to see Ell & Nikki as their winners as i think that is one of their weakest entries so far... Wouldn't mind this to be successful there, and as difficult as it may be, i think politics & stuff shouldn't matter at all (otherwise Russia shouldn't win as well)
LOL that's a good point. Maybe its because i'm so convinced that Russia will win i didn't even think about that. Just hope Sergey doesn't get booed like poor Polina did last year every time Russia got 12 points. If the song is amazing, then why shouldn't people vote for that country even though they have terrible attitudes to gay people.

I'm gonna start copying you by following up my last comments and then focus on the new chart. So much to love and share in our charts.

1 (NEW) Kerli – Blossom

I saw the thread in the rock forum and checked out the song but for me, it's nowhere near as good as Feral hearts which i thought was a really strong song. That doesn't mean i dislike the song, but with so much competition around I'm not sure if this will make my top 20 this weekend. It's likely to be a bubbling under with a chance of going into my top 20 et la Beat to my melody style. :P

2 (NEW) Zedd & Ke$ha – True Colors

I do love this, not what i expected when i saw Zedd & Ke$ha had teamed up to do a song together, and because i've never checked out Zedd's album i wasn't even aware that this is an old album track of his. However, what we've got is a song that manages to sound genuinely heartfelt and emotional from Ke$ha, as if she is pleading with the listener in a "help, i'm caught in a contract and can't get out" and using that anger in her vocals on the chorus. Maybe i'm going way ott here but it is fantastic.

3 (34) Ivan – Help You Fly

Wow, what a climb! :o The only thing that worries me about Ivan is his live vocals. He doesn't seem to be a very strong vocalist so if he does make the grand final, i wonder if his vocals will let him down.

5 (1) Tarja – No Bitter End

I also gave this a listen last week but wasn't really getting into the song. :(

8 (11) Zara Larsson & MNEK – Never Forget You *P*

Wow (again! :P ) what's led to this having such a resurgence back up your chart recently?

28 (NEW) Calvin Harris feat. Rihanna – This Is What You Came For

Aww, so low down. :( I know a number of people have said how disappointed they are with this, but i absolutely love it. I love that its mellow and chilled whilst still being upbeat. Rihanna sounds gorgeous, almost flirty with her vocals. I even love the "you-ooh-ohh-ohhh" effects. :P Yes, i wanted the drop to be anthemic but even though its not there, i still really enjoy this song. Safe to say this will be much higher in my new chart.

34 (NEW) Jamala – 1944

Oh, this is one of those songs i just keep struggling to get into. It's that weird chanty singing but that sounds quite Bollywood that i can't get into. It just sounds like she's singing out of tune when i listen to this and it puts me off.

36 (NEW) Rykka – The Last Of Our Kind

Switzerland's entry is a weird one. I don't love the song, but i don't hate it either. For me, this is one of those songs that are just there. It doesn't grab my attention and make me think "OMG, love it" so if this failed to qualify, i wouldn't be too upset it.

I can imagine your chart is going to be really interesting to follow in the coming weeks. Eurovision + new music on Fridays + Adele's upcoming concert. Ohhh, did you receive your tickets? How are you gonna manage to compile a top 40 the week after the Eurovision final and Adele's concert?

2 (NEW) Zedd & Ke$ha – True Colors
13 (20) Drake feat. Wizkid & Kyla – One Dance
16 (18) Disturbed – The Sound Of Silence
18 (7) P!nk – Just Like Fire
19 (9) Demi Lovato – Stone Cold
21 (17) Kerli – Feral Hearts
22 (14) Mike Posner – I Took A Pill In Ibiza
23 (12) Taylor Swift – New Romantics
25 (16) Ariana Grande – Dangerous Woman
27 (13) Grimes – Kill V. Maim
28 (NEW) Calvin Harris feat. Rihanna – This Is What You Came For
29 (23) Fifth Harmony feat. Ty Dolla $ign – Work From Home
30 (30) Birdy – Wild Horses
32 (19) Halsey – Castle
37 (36) Coldplay – Hymn For The Weekend

There are lots I like! I knew Kerli would be no.1. I watched the video. Don't know what to think of the song but the video was great! Maybe the song is a grower for me.

Nice Entry for True Colors! Love it and I really want it to be a hit but I don't have much hope :(

I just found out about that Disturbed song! :o

I'm seriously surprised about Belarus

Nice to see Ukraine enter :)

YESS really, really glad to hear that! Her performance is one of those i'm the most excited about :D

I added "Views" to my library through apple music :P Don't plan to really buy it though. But yeah "Too Good" is good, and is currently smashing on iTunes as well so it's pretty safe to say it will be a single. Didn't find another highlight other than "One Dance" yet though.

JakeP wrote:Aww, i just didn't really feel anything from the song. Lighthouse is a pleasant song but i never feel like going back to listening to the song again so i know when a song has made an impact on me, and Croatia's entry hasn't. :(

Ah at least you like Iceland 8-)

I'm also not the biggest fan of the song that should have represented Romania, it would probably be in bottom 5 for me. San Marino would be in my Top10 in the 1st Semi Final to be honest  The other's you mentioned (except Ukraine) are far away from being my faves, but they're still solid. Sweden is definitely bottom 5 as well though. Can't believe it's doing so well in the odds!

I found the booeing was so mean. It wasn't her fault what's happening there, not at all. It was even worse with the two sisters in 2014... they were so young and it was so clear they didn't felt well due to the booeings (do i have to write that word like this? lol...)... So even when i'm not a fan at all of what's happening there, Russia has been one of my favorite countries for a few years lately...

Sure! :)
Really happy to see us having some similar faves on our charts :D

I don't know if i prefer "Blossom" or "Feral Hearts" at this stage, time will tell which one will age better and get a spot on my Kerli playlist. But as for now, i just started to get a bit over "Feral Hearts" so the release of "Blossom" was a perfect timing. Glad you checked it out and good to hear you quite like it! I'd love to see an entry on your charts, but wouldn't mind if it wouldn't make one - not all of my faves can debut there :P

JakeP wrote:2 (NEW) Zedd & Ke$ha – True Colors

Same with me! I thought there would be a drop after the chorus or something more dancey but i'm actually positively surprised about the song. I also don't know the 'original' edition so this is a completely new song and i'm loving it <3 I had some tears in my eyes when i listened to it for the first time and she started to sing  No, you're not OT, i'm feeling the same...

I saw one, two live videos and he sounded good IMO. Maybe he improved :) I'm more worried about his moves... he doesn't seem to know what to do with his hands...

JakeP wrote:5 (1) Tarja – No Bitter End

It's a musical style not for everyone so i'm already really happy you actually checked it out! :D

JakeP wrote:8 (11) Zara Larsson & MNEK – Never Forget You *P*
Wow (again! :P ) what's led to this having such a resurgence back up your chart recently?
It only became a success in some countries, including the US and 'my own' country Switzerland. So i started to listen to it again here and there, which was enough to let it re-enter my charts. And i'm always doing a playlist of my Top40 and listen to that at work or while driving and "Never Forget You" made so much fun to listen to while driving... and that's the main reason why it climbed again. With time it became one of my faves to listen to again... it would have been an easy contender for Top5 if not Top3 last week if there's no ESC coming up soon...

It's definitely better than 90% on "Anti" but it's still way to weak and doesn't deserve the success at all. If this would be sung by a random artist and the DJ being someone else (let's say if this would be Zedd feat. Ke$ha :P ) it would be a huge flop for sure. At least it's not the same drop and something new but that's it, it just doesn't go nowhere for me

Did you like Aminata last year? I think Jamala and "1944" are quite similar...

I felt the same for several weeks now but out of a sudden, i started to like it around one or two weeks ago :o I also watched/read some interviews with Rykka and she seems so nice, that probably helped a bit as well. Unfortunately i'm like 99% sure she won't make the final... i guess the song just needs too much time to grow on someone, so a contest like the ESC isn't the best place for it :(

Haha... you say it... i usually do a first 'midweek' chart on sunday but didn't do one yet as i'm sure the first Semi-Final will have a huge effect tomorrow. But even without that, i already have 13 songs that i'd like to enter my charts this week (from a list with 40 songs that could or could not make an entry sooner or later - without ESC songs though) :o :-? I think not all of them will make it in the end.....
And as you say, next week will be similar, with Adele's concert being on tuesday... ah good question! I didn't get them, but i need to pick them up at the concert. I already got a confirmation etc. so it should be safe now :)

Ha yes, she did... and made it as a surprise release, as she released the video for "Blossom" out of the blue without an announcement that there'll be a new single. So it came out of nowhere! :D

Haha i think you're not the only one :P Hope the people start to like it. It deserves a spot in the final, it's easily one of the best made tracks this year IMO

Ukraine has been growing on me. I hope she does well on the contest :)

Really? It's typical crazy Ke$ha 8-)
"Die Young" was and still is amazing, i'd even say it's one of the best dance pop songs ever. No idea why it wasn't a huge hit for her, especially not in Europe!
I adored "Supernatural" back at the time, but i re-played it again lately and it didn't age too well actually. Still many miles better than the weak "C'mon"...

Oh yay, hope you will like it :D

Great to see the massive climb for Zoë! I wasn't really expecting it to reach the top 10 on your chart after seeing it enter at #38 last week.

The similar climb for Ivan is also suprising. I like the song, but there are several other of this year's ESC entries that I like more. Still, it's probably the best entry from Belarus since Koldun - Work Your Magic in 2007.

Also good to see several other ESC entries move up and Rykka entering at #36. I really like that song, too bad it seems unlikely it will qualify for the final. Ukraine's entry on the other hand is one of my least favourites this year, definitely don't understand what people see (or hear) in that. Ukraine has often had very good entries but not this year for me.

I listened to Kerli's new single and it's good, I think I probably like it more than "Feral Hearts". The cover is also interesting . I also checked out the #2 but that does not work for me. You seem to be a big Kesha fan judging from those certification updates but I'm the complete oppsite, never liked any song by her.

Great to see the albums by Jamie-Lee and Zoë both enter in the top 5! While I don't love every song on those albums they each have at least one really great song and overall they are among the most interesting albums I've listened to lately.

^ Ha yeah its debut was very low but it became one of my favorite entries quite fast. I've already started to get a bit over it again but her performance on tuesday saved her and even boosted her...

Ivan's entry was my fave last week and spinned it all the time, which is surprising to me as well. No idea what it is, but there's something that i really like behind that song. The vocals, the melody... hope he qualifies today!

Rykka will make a very surprising move this week... but yeah, it's really unlikely she will qualify which is a shame. Seems like Switzerland is cursed :( I just hope we don't finish last again in the semi... Hmm i can see why Ukraine is not for everyone, but i think i read somehwere it's even in the Top3 for the odds (in the final!) so it surely should qualify today. Did you like Latvia's entry from last year - Aminata? I think Aminata's "Love Injected" and Jamala's "1944" are a bit similar...

Really, really glad to hear that about Kerli! :D
Ha, you're the first one who mentioned the cover art... it actually reminds me a bit of that one:
Image
Yes, i always liked Ke$ha. Even her last 'flop' era with "Warrior" was quite successful. A shame she wasn't able to release more stuff...

Glad you like these entries on the album charts. One of them will most likely don't have a good chartrun, while the other one will have a good one :)
