Hi Hanboo,
In your UK album chartruns for Yes, you have their album Fragile at number 50 for the week 25th March 1972. Your chartrun info also matches the one on the Chartwatch site, and the number of weeks tally of 17 ties in with both the Guinness and "Complete" chartbooks. So what's the problem? Well, I own a copy of Record Mirror for this particular week and have viewed the copy of Record Retailer at the BNL, and both show there was only a top 47 album chart for this week, due to low store returns. I also have
a print copy of Chartwatch that has the Melanie album Gather Me at number 48 for this week - does this tie in with your DB?, and if so, what do you have at number 49? Would also be interested in the source of the additional 3 chart positions for this week.

Yes I remember this chart.
I originally had a top 47 for this week in my DB, based on or transcribed from the chart in the Record Mirror for that particular week (like most for my UK charts for the period 1970-75).

After I had posted the chart runs for Yes on this thread, regular poster/chart researcher Andrzej (or "aaag") commented that I missed one week for Fragile and according to his research based on Chartwatch, he had concluded the missing week was the same date as mentioned above.
I think he also mentioned that the Melanie album belonged on the same chart.
(I've no idea on what page this was posted, it's somewhere between page 68 and 99).

I checked with the Chartwatch site, concluded that Andrzej was right and assuming that the Chartwatch guys based their work on Record Retailer/Music Week, I decided to amend the said chart: #48 Melanie #50 Yes and.. nothing for #49.

Now you're saying that the Record Retailer chart of that week was only 47 positions long, it turns out that we can't trust Chartwatch anymore (if we ever did..).
So I will "uncorrect" the chart of 25/3/1972.
Only problem is that the Melanie and Yes chart runs are not in synch with the chart books. Not that I worry about that - there are hundreds of chart runs in db, which do not comply with the books.

Thanks Oldbloke

Hi Hanboo,
Thanks for the reply.
I have already written to the guys at Guinness who have replied, and confirm the chart was only a top 47. I've sent them quite a few differences between my data and their book - they always check them and ammend the book accordingly, so I would expect in the next edition, the Yes and Melanie albums will show 1 less week.

I wouldn't mind if you'd post the differences you've found and which were agreed by Guinness here.

Aaag and some others have frequently posted comments here with regard to inconsistenties between the chart runs I've posted and the info in the chart books (Guinness and the Tony Brown book).
In some cases I was able to backtrack it to an error in my chart DB, but in most cases I couldn't find the cause of the discrepancies.

Maybe your list will clarify a number of these cases.

COLOSSEUM - Valentyne Suite - book shows 15/2 wks, should be 9 wks

NEW WORLD THEATRE ORCHESTRA - Let's Dance To The Hits Of The 30's &
40's - book shows 20/1 wk, should be 16/2 wks

As you say, there are probably loads more differences, so if you ever find
yourself in desperate need of a new T-Shirt, you could drop the guys at Guinness
a list to check out !!

Hope this helps
