MSSA #52 of 2017

Christmas Bang

Christmas has done a tremendous job this year. Never before have so many Christmas albums charted on the albums chart. This year's #1 christmas themed album belongs to Mariah Carey's 1994 classic "Merry Christmas" followed by non other, but the Queen of Gospel herself, Miss Whitney Houston who also and very surpringly tops the final MSSA Artists chart for 2017. One notable comeback comes from Italy's worldstar Andrea Bocelli, who re-enters at #5 with "My Christmas". Congratulations also to Sam Smith who grabs the #1 song and album of the final week of 2017. That's it for 2017. It has been a great year for music and everything that surrounds it. All you need to do now, is to move to the MSSA Awards thread and watch some of your favourite acts winning the prestigious and rare MSSA Awards.

Thank you, I appreciate <3.

Good numbers, keep it up. I usually use my hi-fi to play music and I have never counted my plays, so I have no idea how big my numbers would be, but very, very big :).

Happy New Year and NBL.

Nippian,

I love your Whitney devotion. God knows I worship Whitney as well. I said it many times over, but I am saying it again: Whitney was my FIRST alltime favourite artist and I knew her music before I knew who Mariah Carey was. Whitney will always have a very very very special place in my heart as my original music-soulmate.

Whitney had a great 2017 on my LastFM chart, altho total plays are DOWN in comparison to 2016 when she ranked 20th with 1,238 plays. People who follow my chart know that I always excessively play my fave acts new albums. I joined LastFM in only 2011 and as you know, Whitney did not release any new music in that timeframe. So her latest album is from 2009 and it does rank in the top 10 among all albums released 2009.

2009 in music: (music consumption 2011-today)

01 - 873 - Sunny Side Up - Paolo Nutini
02 - 495 - Reality Killed The Video Star - Robbie Williams
03 - 441 - MZW - Mans Zelmerlöw
04 - 377 - Memoirs of an imperfect Angel - Mariah Carey
05 - 347 - The Platinum Collection - Tina Turner
06 - 342 - Lungs - Florence + The Machine

Spoiler:
01 - 873 - Sunny Side Up - Paolo Nutini
02 - 495 - Reality Killed The Video Star - Robbie Williams
03 - 441 - MZW - Mans Zelmerlöw
04 - 377 - Memoirs of an imperfect Angel - Mariah Carey
05 - 347 - The Platinum Collection - Tina Turner
06 - 342 - Lungs - Florence + The Machine
07 - 339 - I Look To You - Whitney Houston
08 - 311 - Winter Songs - Ronan Keating
09 - 282 - Live from the Royal Albert Hall - The Killers

Thanks <3. I listen to music, performances, watch videos, post: on here, on other boards, on social media, talk with people, learn some things and share with others then they share with their friends, or they share first and I repost :).

I know you are a huge WH fan, and I appreciate :)

I know you play a lot of new music, I follow your chart, but rarely comment. Her positions are always good considering her catalogue is pretty small for somebody who was in the business for 3 decades (or more, depends on how you count it) and sadly for an obvious (and very sad) reason there was no "proper" studio album since 2009. You need to check "I Wish You Love: More From The Bodyguard", the film versions are great, and so are the live renditions from The Bodyguard Tour, sadly some people who were behind the project are not so great.

Hope she will be a part of your 2018 as well :)

I took your advice and just bought the Bodyguard compilation. God knows I have been raping that replay button for the IWALY film version like a demented person.

I bought the Bodyguard album in 1998 and I believe that for 3-4 months, it was the only CD I played. Before finally owning the album on CD, I recorded IWALY from the radio to cassette in 1992 when I was basically an infant, (7). IWALY was my first ever favourite song of all times.

It's so cool. I couldn't experience it the way you did. Some of my first WH songs were Heartbreak Hotel, It's Not Right But It's Ok and My Love Is Your Love, have loved them since. When those songs were hits I was listening to the radio and music channel on TV all the time, so I was able to catch them pretty often. Almost 20 years have passed, and I still play them, hope it will never change, and it will not.

when the whitney bug bit you, it will never go away. I love the woman forever. I was watching her All The Man I Need Homecoming special performance the other day and she truly left her body (and I left mine)... that was no singing anymore, that was a biblical revelation. Nobody can or could and will be able to ever dream of reaching her level. Some artists are unique, other may be legends, and only a few are deities. Whitney is all three combined.

^ You described her perfectly. I could not have said it better myself. Happy New Year, and keep on scrobbling. That concert you mentioned is amazing, I have seen it many, many times and nevet get tired of it.
