Don’t agree with the assessment that it’s a flop at all.

It’s an underperformance for his standards. Definitely not a flop

Funny how Migos is supposed to be this hot sh*t yet in week two can't sell but a third of what an Ed Sheeran album that is nearly a year old is moving. The industry is effing up so hard by pandering to a crowd who places no value on music.

The people who Migos appeal to don’t buy albums though or care much about the album as a body of work. Ed Sheeran is a lot bigger than Migos anyway and appeals to a much broader demographic like soccer mums who still actually buy albums. They’re not very comparable imo.

How is it not a flop? They are going all in with this era. These sales will not make up for what they've invested in him thus far.

Say Something is shaping up to be a decent hit and it’s still one of the biggest debuts of the past 12 months. I’m not saying he’s doing well, mind

I think the next few months will be key for Justin. Either the album could have legs (kinda like Pink's latest despite not having a huge hit single) or fall do #29 next week and be off the chart in 2-3 months. If it has some longevity, I think it'll be okay, but if it has a massive week two drop and vanishes without a trace, it'll be a bomb.

Hell, many of the UKMix icons have had just that at some point. Madonna, Britney, Mariah, Katy, MJ, Janet, Whitney. Interviews/live performances or something that did the opposite of their intent.

CHART STORY: TIMBERLAKE ON TOP

Fresh off his Super Bowl LII halftime performance, RCA’s Justin Timberlake dominates the Top 50 Chart, as fifth studio album Man of the Woods goes #1 with 296k. Migos’ Culture II (QC/Motown/Capitol), meanwhile, slides to #2, moving more than 90k in its second week out. The red-hot trio also has four songs in the Song Revenue Chart Top 10, with “Walk It Talk It” f/Drake at #2 ($167k+) and “Stir Fry” at #4 ($152k).

Three other new releases make the overall chart’s Top 20 this week. NOW’s Now 65 appears at #10, Rich Brian’s Amen (88rising/EMPIRE) is #16 and AWOLNATION’s Here Come the Runts (Red Bull) comes in at #18.

NF’s Perception (NF Real Music/Caroline) jumps #24-19, as breakout hit “Let You Down” continues to move up inside the Pop radio Top 10 with sights set on the Top 5. As for more noteworthy moves, Maroon 5’s Red Pill Blues (222/Interscope) rises #38-27 in tandem with the release of the “Wait” music video, which stars headline-grabbing actress Alexandra Daddario. And then there’s Warner Bros.’ Dua Lipa, whose eponymous album goes #34-28, as smash “New Rules” spends a second week at #1 on the Pop radio chart. It’s also worth mentioning that Dua just did SNL.

When it comes to marketshare, SME is #1 with 39%, UMG is #2 with 36% and WMG follows with 23%, while the indies claim 3%.

Streeting this week are TDE/Aftermath/Interscope’s Black Panther and Republic’s Fifty Shades Freed soundtracks, as well as a set from Columbia’s MGMT.

In the end, better than what I was anticipating. Still not sure about longevity though.

NEW RELEASES: HEROES AND HEARTS

Although its curators would prefer you didn't call it a soundtrack, the Black Panther album—crafted by Kendrick Lamar, Top Dawg and team to accompany the wildly anticipated Marvel blockbuster, which hits theaters in one week—has arrived, in tandem with an official ST (for the latest steamy installment in the Fifty Shades franchise).

Black Panther (TDE/Aftermath/Interscope) 110-120k total activity, 35-40k album

50 Shades Freed (Republic) 50-60k, 30-40k

As you probably know by now, Lamar performs on five of the Panther album's 14 tracks; other participants in the superhero sonics include The Weeknd, SZA, ScHoolboy Q, 2 Chainz, Khalid, Swae Lee, Jay Rock and Vince Staples. Panther is the #1 album at Apple Music and iTunes; seven tracks are currently in the Apple Music Top 10 and five in the Spotify Top 10 (with three in the Top 5).
