• Without any particularly strong competitors, "Don't Leave Me Alone" keeps the top spot all to itself, while Robyn's underwhelming new offering leads to reminiscing of better days gone by.

Come through, SZA, with the random re-peak! :o I am slightly concerned that this is #1 the week of your birthday, as it's not the carefree dance anthem that most people would usually go with to mark the occasion, but rather an honest, introspective assessment of the rate of one's progress in various departments. Hope your birthday (and the whole week really) was less sombre than "Prom" suggests.

I am very much here for the Mother Diva tracks! I'm especially glad to see "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman" is the top AF track, as I personally feel that to be the ultimate Aretha song in so many ways. "Respect" is a battle cry, an assertion of equality, but "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman" is a deeply soulful, sensual love song, and I always got the sense that that was the vein of song that Aretha felt most at home with (alongside gospel standards).

phoenix98 wrote:Ha, "noisy" is VERY fair for "Love It If We Made It" - especially during the verses. They're basically shouting at us right from the start, and I was taken aback on first listen too, but it still managed to really stick in my head (in a good way, largely thanks to the chorus). I might not be interpreting it right, but I particularly love the title/hook - that way of saying "I hope we can survive/actually make this thing work."

I can totally understand how some listeners wouldn't even be able to make it through the first full play, though  and I'm a little surprised at myself by how compelled I am to keep playing it.
One day soon I'll grit through and see if the second spin illuminates that hook you highlighted.

phoenix98 wrote:"Disapproval" is too harsh (though I can see how its chart run here gives that impression) It's just...fine for me, and it's definitely strange/perplexing to watch an artist I've adored (for single after single after single before) finally win over so many people with a song that leaves me feeling fairly indifferent. Per usual, it's totally possible that some substance has gone over my head, but isn't it basically just a sex jam? Her bragging about how sex with her is a divine/transcendent experience? I've got nothing against a good sex jam, but for me she's done that far more effectively with the likes of "Love Me Harder," "Let Me Love You," etc. Is it because she's mixing religious imagery with sex talk...? Speaking of imagery, the video does have a ton of fascinating effects and subtext, so I'm better able to grasp why people have been so impressed by that.

That tragedy certainly gave OLT a whole new level of significance: serving as an anthem for survival and unity, bringing together an entire city (well, world, really, given its global iTunes impact) that's faced such terror.
There's so much to love about "God Is a Woman" that I'm not quite sure where to begin. To start, the title/message alone is bold and controversial, and the negative reactions to it on the basis of this alone show the gender inequities (and blatant sexism really) that exist in most religions. Then you have the mixing of sex and religion that you highlighted, which isn't anything new (Madonna did this with "Like a Prayer" many years before), but I think all of this really contributes to the boldness of the track for me because it's not cookie-cutter; you know going in that people are going to be divided saying she's gone too far. Even though it's not wholly a female empowerment song, there is the I can be all the things you told me not to be that alludes to women being able to define themselves outside of the narrow box that many societies try to force them into.

Then there are the vocals! We know Ariana can sing, but I contend that this is her finest vocal performance to date. I'm not great at the technical terms, but she has a great sense of tone and cadence here, mixing the speed from fast with the sultry moments/lyrics to slower and more deliberate with the big, bold, and grandeur chorus that leads into the big "God is a woman" hook.

And, finally, there's the video that ties everything together. From the nude male models/angels crawling around her on her bed, to the men pelting an enhanced-sized version of her with insults (presumably to show that she is above such petty attempts at derision), to her fingering a planet, the hilariously random shriek from that raccoon-looking creature, all of the religious imagery, and then a Madonna monologue!

It could be argued that Madonna and Mariah are the two greatest artists of all-time, and I just can't help but feel that Ariana blends elements from both of those ladies, adds her unique flavour to it, and really knocks this song out of the park. I always say an artist comes into his/her own when he/she delivers a song in such a way that I can think of no one alive or dead that could have done a superior job, and that's exactly what Ariana does with "God Is a Woman". No one could have executed it the way she did. Sexy, bold, empowering, liberating, and the apex of music in 2018.

phoenix98 wrote: :o WOAH! Damn, that song really does have some almighty powers! I still don't get it  but I'm definitely not mad that she's impacting people in such a major way! I'm still rooting for her 110%, and given her track record thus far, I'm completely confident that Sweetener will have at least a song or two that truly shakes my soul. What's been her highest ranking on one of your year-end lists so far?
Yeah, and as the days pass by, it's looking more and more like a certainty. At this point, I'm tempted to do a poll for members to guess the #2 song.

Here's Ariana's full history on my year-end songs countdowns.

Aw, much appreciation for the concern <3 No need to worry, though - I think the introspection/self-reflection was at least partially fueled by the fact that it was a "milestone" birthday, and being in that headspace wasn't entirely bad/sad anyway. It also drove the random re-entries for some standout smashes from the past five or so years that I hadn't re-visited in a while ("OctaHate," "Holy Ground," "Spirit Indestructible," etc). I knew it wasn't going to be a wild sort of celebration as soon as my Dad announced he was flying into town for the occasion, but it definitely didn't reach "somber" depths either. :D

OoOh, "Mother Diva" is a new honorific to me, and I absolutely plan to recycle that title in the future! I'm glad you're on-board with "(You Make Me Feel...)" being at the front of my mind in the wake of the tragic news. I've got a soft spot for Kelly Clarkson's rendition too. It looks like this heartbreaking turn of events has lead you to an ABBA-esque exploration of Mother Diva's epic catalog?

I love that I've basically gotten a meaty preview here of what will be said during your 2018 Year-End Countdown!

Reading the way you've outlined the messages that Ari's sending in GIAW sparks SO much more in me than actually hearing the song itself. I love seeing women striking back at the patriarchy (and upending rigid religiosity to boot), especially in the current political (and social) climate...but I don't come away from a play through the song feeling that same fervor...at all :( Granted, this isn't the first time that you've had a better appreciation of songs in this midtempo/mellower-sounding vein than I have: "Call It What You Want" (though that one did grow on me in a big way), "Palo Santo," "Dance To This," "Best Mistake," etc.

Your words do make me want to re-visit the video, but when it comes to just playing the song itself as I'm out-and-about, I'm always left missing the sort of melodies that Ari's used to capture my heart (and ears) so many times before. It was kind of a revelation for me when you referred to the "God is a woOomaAan" part as the "hook", which had me like "So THAT's supposed to be the hook?" I've always thought of the "hook" as the part of the song that really clearly sticks in your head, gets you singing/humming along, and pushes you to hit "play" again (and again, and again)...and nothing in GIAW has that effect on me :( That said, I very much appreciate you taking the time to express your enthusiasm for the song so thoroughly - and without ever implying that I'm just too stupid/uninformed to "get it" (not that you would, but that type of response is all-too-common online when someone doesn’t enjoy/appreciate something that another person holds in high regard).

Many thanks for sharing Ari's complete track record, which quite clearly illustrates the magnitude of GIAW's impact on you :o From a No. 32 highpoint (though I'm glad the previous frontrunner was "Into You") to what looks (virtually certain) to be a LANDSLIDE victory at No. 1. Hallelujah!

Lovely to see all the Ariana songs! "Goodnight n Go" and "Breathin" are two of my top tracks as well, as you already know, and "Everytime" is another big highlight. I think "Raindrops (An Angel Cried)" is a gorgeous intro. Overall, I'm still not totally in love with the LP, but there's still time for it to grow on me before year-end. The best songs, though, are damn good!

Yeah, I think Kelly's cover of the song is actually the best one.

It's different from my ABBA exploration because ABBA's discography is succinct enough that I was able to start from the very beginning and finish the ride within a month moving at the most leisurely of paces. Aretha's discography, on the other hand, does not lend itself to that kind of discovery, so I'm literally randomly checking out songs. Wayne's Aretha survivor has been an excellent way to jump around her discography.

Yeah, sometimes the idea of a song works so much better than its actual execution, and maybe that's the case with "God Is a Woman" for you.

phoenix98 wrote:Your words do make me want to re-visit the video, but when it comes to just playing the song itself as I'm out-and-about, I'm always left missing the sort of melodies that Ari's used to capture my heart (and ears) so many times before.
Yeah, it's not the typical pop hook; it's more of a bold declaration that stands out, especially with the backing choir vocals that elevate it to an ethereal level.

Ah, you know that's not my style!

phoenix98 wrote:Many thanks for sharing Ari's complete track record, which quite clearly illustrates the magnitude of GIAW's impact on you :o From a No. 32 highpoint (though I'm glad the previous frontrunner was "Into You") to what looks (virtually certain) to be a LANDSLIDE victory at No. 1. Hallelujah!
Another contender has emerged so that "landslide" victory has now been reduced to a "probable" one.
Franklin’s music profoundly touched and changed the world, because over and over it offered that bridge to salvation, to freedom.

JSparksFan wrote:Lovely to see all the Ariana songs!
Now that I think about, that makes Ari 4-for-4 when it comes to gorgeous intros/opening tracks! Although I'm really enthusiastic about some Sweetener tracks, I'd say I'm "not totally in love with the LP" either. It's probably my least favorite of hers (so far) - but I loved her first three so much, there was bound to be a "dip" at some point in her career. It's a similar situation to Tay's reputation, after she'd REALLY delivered with everything from Fearless ---> 1989.

JSparksFan wrote:Yeah, I think Kelly's cover of the song is actually the best one.

As in the best cover...or the best rendition of the song period? I'm 99% sure you meant the former, but the latter would be a pretty intriguing stance to take!

Ah, that makes sense. Attempting it the ABBA way would basically consume the rest of your 2018!

JSparksFan wrote:Yeah, sometimes the idea of a song works so much better than its actual execution, and maybe that's the case with "God Is a Woman" for you.
Exactly! It's SO well-intentioned and bold - but the execution (of the song) just doesn't land with me. I do think everything she meant to convey/express comes through much more clearly and impactfully in the video.

JSparksFan wrote:Yeah, it's not the typical pop hook; it's more of a bold declaration that stands out, especially with the backing choir vocals that elevate it to an ethereal level.

Ah, you know that's not my style!
Ha, that sums up why it flies over my head pretty brilliantly!

I need to start saving these somewhere so I can use them myself! Google's got NOTHING on your GIF supply (and curation).

JSparksFan wrote:Another contender has emerged so that "landslide" victory has now been reduced to a "probable" one.
:o Wha...what now? Not that I'm mad, but I definitely didn't see this twist coming - especially so soon after all our talk of GIAW's victory being basically 99.9999% set in stone! Does this mean Ari might actually claim your year-end Top 2...? :D :D :D

Thanks again, Akini!

Hey Paul – how are you doing?

Hmm… I thought I posted a very long reply last week but no idea what happened. So let me try it again… (thankfully I’m always writing these long replies in a Word document and that one was still available - i hope you don't mind if i just copy & paste it and add the new/re-entries from the most current week... )

It’s finally time for me to catch up again…

Tansike wrote:Oh, even without a similarity i'd recommend you that album simply because it's Kerli :P Joking aside, she's most likely finally releasing her new album soon as they announced that all of the songs have been writ-ten and recorded and they are "in the final stages of the project being completed". I'm obviously very excited and since you're using Apple Music now, it may be a good chance to check her out when it's coming out? :P
(as a dedicated fan i already have to promote her, sorry!)
Shameless! Kidding aside, it's awesome to see you so excited! Was her last album/EP really all the way back in 2013? :o
Yes. Kerli has a very interesting career so far. It’s quite exhausting to be a fan sometimes. Officially, she has released her debut album “Love Is Dead” in 2008 and the EP “Utopia” in 2013 and that’s it. But there were tons of songs that got leaked from her, a whole second album got completely scrapped around 2010 due to leaks, while “Utopia” was a full album & got leaked, so her label decided to go with just an EP. In 2016, she has released four singles and was supposed to release a new album in Fall, but it was absolutely quiet again since then until a month and a half ago when they announced all songs have been written and produced. But let’s see if that’s really the case as you never know with Kerli

phoenix98 wrote:I do have her debut, since I liked "Teardrops On My Guitar" and "Our Song" enough to pick it up back then, but it's definitely her most country-leaning album, and the fact that she was so young when it came out (16ish) is reflected in some of the songwriting. Her voice sounds a bit weaker at times too. Like we've said before regarding Apple Music/streaming, it can't hurt to give the album a try, but I won't be too shocked if it ends up being your least favorite of hers. If you just want a quick taste, my favorite non-singles are probably "Cold As You" and "Stay Beautiful".
Thanks! Most country-leaning album actually sounds nice to me. I’ll add it to my library and check it out, hopefully already this weekend. Hope you don’t mind if I don’t listen to your links now so I can get into the album in full :)
Note: So since i thought i posted this reply last week it doesn't really make sense now, as the weekend is over now... and i actually listened to the album. Unfortunately, nothing besides the singles "Tim McGraw", "Should've Said No" and "Teardrops On My Guitar" really stood out for me and the two songs you've mentioned even belong to the ones i thought are the weakest... It's definitely a nice country album and she seems so sympathetic on there, but overall it's her weakest record. But that's my thought after listening to it now, i'm actually quite sure i would have loved it when i would have listened to it back when it came out

phoenix98 wrote:Yeah, largely thanks to the Nothing But The Beat era. His biggest hits so far (as the lead artist) have been:

"Turn Me On" = No. 1 peak | 7 weeks total | [G]
"Who's That Chick?" = No. 2 | 8 wks | [P]
"Memories" = No. 3 | 2 wks
"Without You" = No. 4 | 7 wks | [G]
"She Wolf (Falling To Pieces)" = No. 6 | 6 wks | [P]
"Titanium" = No. 8 | 2 wks | [G]

Could I possibly get one of your nifty artist-discography-screenshot for him?
Oh, I love that #1 peak for “Turn Me On” <3 It’s definitely one of his strongest songs ever for me, too. But apart from the “Nothing But The Beat” Era, he pretty much flopped on your charts, which surprises me a bit. He is one of the artists with the most entries on my charts, as 28 songs with/by him made it onto mine. Here is his Discography :)

phoenix98 wrote:Ugh, I really don't get it - ESPECIALLY with "Better." That seemed like the PERFECT way to follow-up "Me Too": it didn't sound like any of the Title singles or first two Thank You singles, but it was still super catchy/radio-friendly, AND came with one of her most interesting videos yet! Maybe people just burned out on her, since she released "NO" so soon after "Like I'm Gonna Lose You," and had quite a few hits in such a short span of time? People did see her as a bit gimmicky from the start, with all the doo-wop influence on her first album, and most of her singles did share the same themes of "I love myself and you best respect/appreciate me or GTFO..."
True… and yeah, I think many people expected “Better” to do well because it was something new from her, but the public probably didn’t even want something new from her? Anyways, she just postponed her new album, which is sad in my opinion. Even if it would have been a flop/underperformance, she should have stick to the original date and then move on in 2019. Because after the first few singles did nothing, I’m not sure if this era can be saved somehow…

...

…going through the charts I didn’t comment, a few things really got my attention so I have to make a short comment about these as well (there were more on the missed charts that I enjoyed obviously, but either the songs are still charting or are just okay/good)

As you know, this has been a surprisingly huge highlight for me this year so far so I’m loving that little re-entry on your charts from a few weeks ago. The track is still climbing up the charts in a few countries (just got a new peak at #45 on the Hot 100 for example and finally entered the charts in Germany) so I still have some hope left that this may be the big hit it deserves to be.

Funny how we were talking about David Guetta and shortly after he got a #1 hit on your charts and two re-entries with these two :) With that eighth week, “Turn Me On” ties “Who’s That Chick” as his longest charting track on your charts, and I’m definitely loving that <3

That re-entry for “Spirit Indestructible” already made me like ‘ :o ’ when I saw it last week as I thought I was the only person in the world who loved the song so much as well… because it also was a #1 on my charts back in 2012 :o After all these years I really have to say this is one of my absolute faves by Nelly.

Woah, Ariana is slaying as expected – I LOVE that (and I’m even listening to “Sweetener” while I write down this whole reply here <3)
She really must be close to be the most successful artist ever on your charts, if she isn’t it already :o

“Goodnight N Go” is definitely a great choice for the #1 and actually belongs to the better half for me as well – amazing to see it going Gold in its debut week! The obvious highlight (apart from NTLTC and GIAW) however is “Breathin” for me, so it’s nice to see that one making a great debut as well. Oh and I love “Get Well Soon” as well, but it seems like you’re not that much into that one yet…
As I said over in my topic I’ve started to get over “The Light Is Coming” now, but it’s still good to see it getting some attention now.

Impressed seeing Alan Walker reaching the Top10 with “Darkside” in Ariana’s release week :o Good for him, this really is a great song and I’m glad it grew on you so much :D

Also love to see how successful “All For You” by Years & Years is. I think I read somewhere that this may be the next single which would be a fantastic choice!
Great to see “Happy Now” being a hit as well. Zedd delivered yet again. I’m still shocked how the song is underperforming on the worldwide charts so far though, so fingers crossed the public will pick it up soon.

I definitely didn't see that big debut for Jess coming :o I can't really remember how her previous songs did on your charts, which actually makes me think that they weren't that successful... or am i wrong?

Also quite a surprising debut for LP... i guess you discovered it through Jake's chart? She's another case where i can't remember how she did on your charts with her previous stuff. Did you enjoy "Lost On You"? I think "Girls Go Wild" is quite nice, but her previous few singles were much better IMO. Still excited to hear more from her, her voice is so strong!

Love those re-entries for Zara <3
Also nice debut for "Right Now" and lovely re-entry for Gwen. I just came across some of her songs yesterday and her discography is actually really strong.

Last but not least: Amazing news for Ariana! Fastest Platinum certification in two years :o 8-)

Hey there Tansike! :D

Ha, I definitely don't mind a little copying-and-pasting! I actually do the same thing of writing/saving comments in a Word doc (especially when I don't manage to finish a whole post in one sitting). I'm just glad that everything you took the time to write last week wasn't completely lost!

Damn, it's been a BUMPY road for Kerli :-? It's so frustrating that MULTIPLE projects of hers have gotten completely derailed by leaks! So she's only managed to put out one full album? EPs seem to be increasingly common in the streaming era (Noah Cyrus, Liam Payne, etc.), so I guess that approach could still work for her...but it's a shame that her fans keep getting denied the proper, complete releases they were expecting. :(

Ha, well...it's not the first time that you haven't felt my faves on an album, but I really wasn't expecting that to happen this time around  Still, at least we agree on "Teardrops...", which is the song that got me interested in Taylor in the first place. <3

Guetta's definitely been a much stronger presence on your chart :o Looks like he's racked up at least a couple of hits every year since 2010! Thanks for making that! I didn't include any of his featured appearances when I posted my list for you, so his history on mine would look a little better with his "featured" hits included:

"Club Can't Handle Me" (Flo Rida) = No. 8 | 9 wks | [G]

   We totally jinxed it with all our talk about how it was so refreshing that she WASN'T postponing her album despite singles under-performing (like so many other artists have been doing lately) **Sigh** Now we might end up with a completely different album and never get to hear the rest of the Treat Myself material.

It's funny, cause I absolutely ADORE that song, but it also feels a little weird/worrisome to make it an official single after it's been out for over two months AND they already released a video for it at that same time. I just hope that doesn't hurt its chances for success now, and there's other Palo Santo tracks that could work well as singles too ("Hallelujah" jumps to mind...)

Tansike wrote:I definitely didn't see that big debut for Jess coming :o I can't really remember how her previous songs did on your charts, which actually makes me think that they weren't that successful... or am i wrong?
"All I Am" just feels like such a perfect bubbly pop bop to me <3 You're right about Jess not appearing here much before:

"I'll Be There" = No. 5 peak | 3 weeks total | [G]
"Hold My Hand" = No. 6 | 7 wks | [G]

as a featured guest...

"My Love" (Route 94) = No. 4 | 3 wks | [G]
"Rather Be" (Clean Bandit) = No. 7 | 7 wks | [P]

I wasn't following her debut era too closely, so some of those singles I've probably never heard.

Tansike wrote:Also quite a surprising debut for LP... i guess you discovered it through Jake's chart? She's another case where i can't remember how she did on your charts with her previous stuff. Did you enjoy "Lost On You"? I think "Girls Go Wild" is quite nice, but her previous few singles were much better IMO. Still excited to hear more from her, her voice is so strong!
Kind of. I totally owe him for introducing me to LP in general when he was charting "Lost On You," but since then I've discovered that some of my friends actually know/like her too, so they've played some of her other stuff for me (like off her Forever For Now album). Jake's chart was where I first read about "N'oublie Pas" (which is probably my favorite of everything I've heard from LP so far), so I've tried to keep a closer eye out for new threads and new releases in the iTunes Store/Apple Music.

Thanks again, Tansike! :D

I really love the artists on your countdown and probably need to check everything out, especially Troye's album. I'll have to see what made Plum being your top pick from him this week. How have his other singles fared on your chart.

I approve of any and all Ariana appreciation :)

Wonderful top ten - nice to see the random Cher entry too :D

You really are loving "Goodnight n Go"! "Breathin" seems to be holding well. Also, you seem to appreciate Troye's new album more than I do, but "Seventeen" is in the top 5, so I'm pleased with that. That's a pretty harsh debut for "Love Wins", though. I thought I was being rough on it.

phoenix98 wrote:As in the best cover...or the best rendition of the song period? I'm 99% sure you meant the former, but the latter would be a pretty intriguing stance to take!
I think it's certainly the best cover, and probably the best live performance of the song I've heard. I haven't heard all of Aretha's live performances of it, but I don't think she did a better live version than Kelly's from the few that I have heard.

phoenix98 wrote:Ah, that makes sense. Attempting it the ABBA way would basically consume the rest of your 2018!
And considering a good chunk of the year was spent exploring Janet's catalogue, I think it's only fair to ease up on the full exploration of these mega-voluminous discographies for a little bit, and be more 'in the moment'.

phoenix98 wrote: :o Wha...what now? Not that I'm mad, but I definitely didn't see this twist coming - especially so soon after all our talk of GIAW's victory being basically 99.9999% set in stone! Does this mean Ari might actually claim your year-end Top 2...? :D :D :D
Yeah, they're such different songs. "God Is a Woman" ticks so many boxes for me that it's the textbook #1, but "Breathin" is the song this year that I relate the most to.

It would be unprecedented for an artist to claim my year-end top 2, but let's see what happens. It would be kinda perfect for Ari to be the first to do it, though. I feel like I was unduly harsh on her when she made her commercial breakthrough five years ago, but she's really come into her own this year in a way Dangerous Woman hinted she might.
Franklin’s music profoundly touched and changed the world, because over and over it offered that bridge to salvation, to freedom.

Hey Mainshow :D Thanks for stopping by - and for letting me know about that Survivor! I'm having a lot of fun with it so far (though there's been some tough decisions already). It's even introduced me to some of her lesser-known material for the very first time (like "Voodoo Love").

Glad to hear you're feeling Ari's take on "Goodnight N Go" too! I've been pretty obsessed with it since Sweetener dropped  Only one other song has spent three straight weeks at No. 1 this year (CHVRCHES's "Graves"). It's also Ari's second-ever song to spend three weeks on top (after "Moonlight").

Thanks again, Mainshow! :D

Bloom is definitely worth a listen if you get the chance (and since it's only 10 tracks/about 40min long, it doesn't take much time to hear it all). "Plum" was the catchiest/most instant of the tracks that I hadn't heard before (and my bf had been snacking on some plums from the farmers' market shortly before the album dropped).

As far as his singles go, "Bloom" has easily been the biggest by peaking at No. 1 and lasting nine weeks total (so far). "Wild" stalled at No. 2 and lingered for six total, while both "Youth" and "My My My!" hit No. 4. The Blue Neighbourhood album track "Lost Boy" actually out-shone several of his singles by making it to No. 2 and racking up seven weeks overall.

cheapthrills wrote:I approve of any and all Ariana appreciation :)
Amen to that! 8-)

Ha, yeah, I owe Tansike for that one! He encouraged me to check out her "GIMME! GIMME! GIMME! (A Man After Midnight)" cover, so I figured I might as well give her "SOS" rendition a listen as well. I can't put my finger on exactly why, but "SOS" seems to suit her voice/style even better.

Thanks again, cheapthrills! :D

Aw, so is Bloom pretty much a total "pass" for you, aside from "Dance To This"? "Seventeen" had that promising Top 2 peak on your chart, but didn't last too long afterward...

Ha, that No. 30 debut does look pretty dire - but it's still better than "The Champion" or "Cry Pretty" managed.

She's definitely served up her most personal/revealing material this time around, and it's especially impactful given how some of her real-life struggles mirror our own in pretty specific ways (as shown in "Breathin" and "Get Well Soon"). Big-name acts often keep things incredibly broad/generic even when they're supposedly penning "personal" lyrics ("I get insecure sometimes", "I'm not always as nice as I seem"), but Ari illustrates her anxiety in ways that REALLY resonate. There's still a lot I love about her other albums (and I still prefer them overall), but I can't say they ever touched on some of my own inner demons the way she does on certain Sweetener tracks.

Thanks again, Akini! :D

Hey Paul :D

btw… maybe a weird question but is it actually ok to call you like that here? Because I saw your name appearing here and there and your charts is named after it too, but most other UKMixers never reveal their name and don’t want that others speak to them like that

Also btw2: Did you move to Switzerland? Someone with the exact same first and last name is living in the city where I work

phoenix98 wrote:Damn, it's been a BUMPY road for Kerli :-? It's so frustrating that MULTIPLE projects of hers have gotten completely derailed by leaks! So she's only managed to put out one full album? EPs seem to be increasingly common in the streaming era (Noah Cyrus, Liam Payne, etc.), so I guess that approach could still work for her...but it's a shame that her fans keep getting denied the proper, complete releases they were expecting. :(
It really was. Leaks were such a big problem during 2010-2015 for many artists, and Kerli was really unlucky with that. But I still don’t get the labels decision of still scrapping everything… even if it leaked, I’m sure they could have released it nonetheless. Yes, officially, there’s only one full album by Kerli, which came out in 2008. I really hope it’s finally the time for a new album soon, as it already looked like we’re finally getting one in 2016 but it got postponed yet again due to whatever reasons.

phoenix98 wrote:Ha, well...it's not the first time that you haven't felt my faves on an album, but I really wasn't expecting that to happen this time around  Still, at least we agree on "Teardrops...", which is the song that got me interested in Taylor in the first place. <3
Oh really? So “Cold As You” and “Stay Beautiful” are not just standouts for you, but big ones? Maybe I would think different when I would’ve heard it back then, as I look at it from a completely different way now and it was just a ‘listen-to-it-so-you’ve-finally-heard-it’ thing instead of discovering something new…

phoenix98 wrote:Guetta's definitely been a much stronger presence on your chart :o Looks like he's racked up at least a couple of hits every year since 2010! Thanks for making that! I didn't include any of his featured appearances when I posted my list for you, so his history on mine would look a little better with his "featured" hits included:

"Right Now" (Rihanna) = No. 3 peak | 10 weeks total | [P]
"Versace On The Floor (Remix)" (Bruno Mars) = No. 6 | 3 wks
"Club Can't Handle Me" (Flo Rida) = No. 8 | 9 wks | [G]
"Commander" (Kelly Rowland) = No. 9 | 3 wks | [G]
"Laserlight" (Jessie J) = No. 15 | 2 wks | [G]
Yes… but as you saw, even though he has so many chart entries on mine, he also has ‘just’ four certified songs, so he has even more certifications on yours! Well no prob, I know being featured means it’s not really in the featured artists discography on your charts. But what an interesting insight – especially looking at that Gold certified “LaserLight” made my eyes go :o as it only peaked at #15!

phoenix98 wrote:I immediately thought of you when I saw that "I'm A Mess" moved up to No. 39 on the latest Hot 100 :D Your beloved Bebe has another US Top 40 hit to her name now!
Yes <3 And „I’m A Mess“ is currently #2 on US iTunes

phoenix98 wrote:Good catch! Is that because you much prefer "Turn Me On" to "Who's That Chick"? I noticed that "Turn Me On" went to No. 1 on your chart, while ""Who's That Chick" never even appeared...
Yes that’s why. No idea why but “Who’s That Chick” never got my attention at all, which is weird as I loved both, David and Rihanna at that time.

phoenix98 wrote: :o That's awesome! Admittedly, I didn't pay much attention to The Spirit Indestructible era overall, but the title track really caught my ear! That gorgeous, stripped-back intro, and then how the beat really kicks in at the minute mark... <3 <3 <3

I just heard another song from Nelly last week (“All Good Things”) which made me think about her a bit and she actually has released a few gems. A shame she’s so unsuccessful these days.

I completely know what you mean. The album is currently underperforming (or flopping everywhere except in the UK) which is sad to see and so undeserved, so I cross my fingers for “All For You” to become a hit for them. They also released a new video :)

The Dua slayage :o As I said over in my topic, “Electricity” didn’t impress me sadly. It’s just okay and I was hoping for so much more. But who knows, it may turn out as a grower for me. Dua definitely has another hit on her hands on the Paulboard Top30

Love the ongoing success for Ariana. Nice to see “Breathin” becoming her highest charting track this week – I really hope they will push it as a proper single.

Good debut for “GTFO”! You like her a lot, do you? Or at least I somehow remember seeing you posting in some Mariah related topics years ago. So what do you think about this new song? I really like it, and this is coming from someone who didn’t bother to check out most of her recent songs

Glad “IDOL” made it to your Top10 for one week and is still charting <3

You can save your current chart-topper in the ARIANA GRANDE Artist Survivor here on Ukmix

I also love to see Kylie, Troye Sivan on your chart!

Thanks for taking part and I am glad that you were able to get to know some older tracks by Ariana due to the survivor ;)
"Moonlight"? Wow, didn't know you would love that track so much!

Absolutely amazing #2! It sounds so fresh! - Nice to see "Breathin'" being so stable.
"GTFO" was a huge letdown. Maybe it will grow on me but tbh, the last song by Mariah I truly liked was "Triumphant".

Oh this is interesting - what prompted the Dua Lipa invasion? Not that I'm complaining. Love that Hotter Than Hell is the highest of them :)

Actually, your top five is full of artists that I really enjoy - and I'm probably the only one that thinks it's cute that they're at #1 while Chocolate is at #30 since the 1975 had a song with that title too. :P

I have to admit that none of the legacy artists - Mimi, Janet, or Cher have really excited me with their releases. Should i turn in my gay card?

Tansike wrote:btw… maybe a weird question but is it actually ok to call you like that here? Because I saw your name appearing here and there and your charts is named after it too, but most other UKMixers never reveal their name and don’t want that others speak to them like that

Also btw2: Did you move to Switzerland? Someone with the exact same first and last name is living in the city where I work
Not a weird question at all! It's very considerate of you to ask <3 I'm totally fine either way (using my real first name or username). What about for you? Of course, you can always just call me whatever you want... ;)

Well, how could we have our slumber party if I still lived in the US? ;) Kidding aside, if you mean this guy shares my Facebook name, that's actually my first and middle name (not my first and last). Around the time I graduated from college, a lot of my friends started doing that on Facebook (using their first-and-middle names instead of first-and-last) to make it a little harder for employers and others to find our accounts. I'm not sure if that method's really effective  but I've kept it that way ever since.

Tansike wrote:It really was.
Exactly! At LEAST release it digitally/provide SOME way for fans to acquire an official version (if the label doesn't think it's worth printing actual CDs/booklets/etc. after the leak). Scrapping it entirely seems like such a waste of years' worth of work!

Tansike wrote:Oh really? So “Cold As You” and “Stay Beautiful” are not just standouts for you, but big ones? Maybe I would think different when I would’ve heard it back then, as I look at it from a completely different way now and it was just a ‘listen-to-it-so-you’ve-finally-heard-it’ thing instead of discovering something new…
Yeah...well, at least as far as the non-singles go. The overall biggest standouts on her debut are probably "Teardrops..." and "Our Song" (obvious picks, I know, but it makes sense they were her first crossover hits).

The timing can really impact our impressions of an album, for sure. Like with Janet: her first two albums have a pretty poor reputation among fans, and weren't very successful either, so it was hard to completely push that impression out of my mind when I finally got around to exploring them myself. If I'd been alive (and interested) back when they first came out, my feelings toward the material might've been quite different.

Tansike wrote:Yes… but as you saw, even though he has so many chart entries on mine, he also has ‘just’ four certified songs, so he has even more certifications on yours! Well no prob, I know being featured means it’s not really in the featured artists discography on your charts. But what an interesting insight – especially looking at that Gold certified “LaserLight” made my eyes go :o as it only peaked at #15!
Ha, yeah, that "LaserLight" cert surprised me too  There are some rare cases where songs are just unlucky and narrowly miss out on the Top 30 for several weeks. Songs usually need at least 3 plays in a week to make my chart, so some will have 2-3 plays (slowly-but-surely working toward that Gold cert) and still not appear here. I remember that happening with Zara's "So Good" (it would've landed somewhere in the No. 31-No. 35 range for at least a few weeks), which was probably the case with "LaserLight" too.

Tansike wrote:Yes <3 And „I’m A Mess“ is currently #2 on US iTunes
She got pushed down by all the Eminem tracks last week :x but now she's back up to No. 43 on the latest Hot 100, so an even better peak is still very possible...

Tansike wrote:YESSSS <3 <3 <3 I just heard another song from Nelly last week (“All Good Things”) which made me think about her a bit and she actually has released a few gems. A shame she’s so unsuccessful these days.
"All Good Things" is SO gorgeous  It's been too long since I've revisited Loose. That album is pretty phenomenal (especially its singles).

Tansike wrote:I completely know what you mean. The album is currently underperforming (or flopping everywhere except in the UK) which is sad to see and so undeserved, so I cross my fingers for “All For You” to become a hit for them. They also released a new video :)
Thank you! **Fingers and toes crossed**

I definitely preferred the more colorful, campy first video (which suits the song much better), but I'm glad they gave it another video to help push it as a proper single now.

Tansike wrote:Thanks! So she’s either getting a nice hit or don’t chart at all – interesting!
Yeah, though I wasn't following her debut era TOO closely after "Hold My Hands," so I never actually checked out some of the later singles ("Don't Be So Hard on Yourself," "Take Me Home," "Ain't Got Far to Go"). I might give Always In Between a try, though, based on "I'll Be There" and "All I Am."

Tansike wrote:Oh wow, that’s really cool! LP is still quite unknown in the US and “Lost On You” sadly never took off there so it’s nice to hear your friends know/like her! :D
 I was pretty shocked too! I think the fact that she's a part of the LGBTQ community played a role in her being on some of my friends' radars despite her (unfortunate) lack of mainstream success here in the US.

Tansike wrote:These two got lots of my attention from the chart I missed (most other songs are still charting and will be quoted below…). “What A Heavenly Way To Die” is so dreamy and I’m really enjoying it, so I’m glad it made your Top30, even if it was just for a week. Already its name alone is so good
Ha, the title is pretty clever, but it's been one of my least favorites on Bloom so far  I'll still give it some more chances, though! A perk of Bloom being such a short album is that it doesn't take long to play through the whole thing.

Tansike wrote:Also nice appearance for Carrie. How many entries does she have on your charts so far?
She's had 18 entries so far :D I'll round up her Top 10 hits for you:

"Something In The Water" = No. 1 peak | 8 weeks total | [P]
"Blown Away" = No. 4 | 9 wks | [P]
"Do You Think About Me" = No. 4 | 5 wks | [P]
"Good Girl" = No. 4 | 5 wks | [G]
"See You Again" = No. 4 | 3 wks | [G]
"I Told You So" = No. 6 | 3 wks
"That's Where It Is" = No. 6 | 2 wks
"Wasted" = No. 7 | 5 wks | [G]
"Two Black Cadillacs" = No. 8 | 3 wks | [G]
"Independence Day" = No. 8 | 2 wks

...and a quick shout-out to "Who Are You," which only peaked at No. 15, but lasted 5 weeks and went Gold.

I do! Although the quality of her output has gotten much less consistent in the 2010's, she's been a top favorite of mine since junior high (Kylie is a very close second, though). That is AWESOME news about "GTFO" :o I'm not sure if I've ever heard your complete thoughts on Mariah, but I don't remember you ever mentioning her as a favorite or anything  "GTFO" seems to have people pretty divided, but I'm charmed by it! It managed that No. 10 debut with only a day's worth of plays (due to its Thursday release), so it'll definitely climb even higher on my next chart...

Thanks again, Tansike! :D

I'd never heard "Pink Champagne" or "They Don't Know" before either, so thanks for those too! I added "They Don't Know" to my library ASAP. Ha, yeah, "Moonlight" stole my heart as soon as she shared those tantalizing snippets of the song's climax: "he knows just what it does, when he's holding me tight..." I was terrified that it'd get cut from the tracklist when she announced the album's title change!

People seem pretty divided on "GTFO," but I'm really charmed by it! It's such catchy, saucy fun. I'm not a huge fan of "Triumphant" but the Pulse Remix Extended definitely elevates it.

Thanks again, Mainshow! :D

Hey Erotica! Many thanks for stopping by!

Glad to see that Bloom has your stamp of approval 8-) It's already become one of my Top 10 most-played-albums of 2018 (though the title track alone deserves a lot of the credit for that).

Thanks again, Erotica!
