BBC Music Sound Of 2015 longlist revealed
01/12/2014

By Liv Moss
Years & Years, Kwabs and James Bay are among the 15 acts nominated for BBC Music’s Sound Of 2015.

The longlist for BBC Music’s Sound Of 2015, which includes Rae Morris, George The Poet and SOAK, has been unveiled in full.

The list was compiled from nominations by 140 music industry insiders, who each named three of their favourite new music acts.

Head of music for BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra, George Ergatoudis, says: “The longlist is wide-ranging, including grime artists, singer -songwriters, an electro-pop band, a garage punk duo and a poet amongst others. It's a list full of talent and promise and I very much look forward to seeing how each artist's story unfolds over the coming year."

The five finalists will be announced daily by Huw Stephens on The Radio 1 Breakfast Show, starting on Monday, January 5.

Check out the full BBC Music Sound Of 2015 longlist below:

Really love Låpsley Station,
such unusual song (sounding like a male/female duet),
but It's the same singer just in a lower pitch and layered over it.

Judging from the track list of previous winners, there will be at least one Platinum album in there somewhere, if not more. Looking forward to finding out who it is, I don't know any of them!
Kendrick, Beyoncé, and Radiohead are giving me life right now.

James Bay is most obvious what with sounding a bit like George Ezra etc.
There are a lot of dance-based acts that won't shift huge units, i don't think.

Heard a bit of Lapsley and SOAK and I like what I've heard - James Bay has a handful of good songs but the only act I can get excited for truly is Years & Years. "Take Shelter" is a great pop song, "Desire" is a banger and Alex's voice is so strong. They remind me a bit of a more dancey Bastille, especially on their cover of "Breathe" by Blu Cantrell.

I feel the commercial potential in Years & Years (even though I personally am not fond of his voice), Kwabs and Rae Morris. Shura can be a one-hit wonder. Shamir reminds me of tUnE-yArDs. I don't think SOAK will follow Hozier footsteps because at the moment folk/indie scene is already full of different names.

#5 is George The Poet

Shura is a person, it turns out. I thought it was a duo. Here's a video featuring all 15 longlisted acts: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABnvNIf8nFc
