'Black Panther: The Album' Earns Third Week at No. 1 on Billboard 200 Chart

The set logs the most weeks at No. 1 for a soundtrack since “Frozen” in 2014. Plus, Tory Lanez launches at No. 3.
Black Panther: The Album collects a third week at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, as the set climbs 2-1 on the list dated March 17. The album earned 76,000 equivalent album units in the week ending March 8 (down 23 percent), according to Nielsen Music. Of that sum, 15,000 were in traditional album sales.

With a third week atop the list, Black Panther: The Album has now logged the most weeks at No. 1 for a soundtrack since Frozen topped the chart for 13 nonconsecutive weeks in 2014. Between Frozen and Black Panther, there were eight soundtracks that reached No. 1, all spending either one or two weeks in the penthouse. Further, in the last 15 years, while 29 soundtracks have hit No. 1, only four have spent at least three weeks at No. 1: Black Panther, Frozen, High School Musical 2 (four weeks, 2007) and Bad Boys II (four weeks, 2003).

The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The new March 17-dated chart will be posted in full on Billboard's websites on Tuesday, March 13.

Black Panther: The Album debuted at No. 1 on the chart dated Feb. 24, and spent its first two weeks atop the list. It slipped to No. 2 on the March 10 chart.

At No. 2 on the new Billboard 200, The Greatest Showman soundtrack steps 5-2 with 60,000 units (up 14 percent). The album benefits from exposure on ABC TV’s broadcast of the Academy Awards on March 4, where the soundtrack’s “This Is Me” was nominated for best original song and was performed on the show by the movie’s Keala Settle. While the tune didn’t take home the Oscar, the show-stopping performance clearly motivated music consumers. The album’s sales grew 19 percent to 39,000 for the week. The set also gains thanks to its vinyl LP release on March 2, as The Greatest Showman also debuts at No. 1 on the Vinyl Albums chart with 5,000 copies sold.

With Black Panther: The Album and The Greatest Showman at Nos. 1 and 2 on the Billboard 200, soundtracks rule the top two on the chart for the first time in nearly eight years. It last happened on the June 26, 2010-dated list with the TV soundtrack Glee: The Music, Journey to Regionals at No. 1, and the theatrical movie soundtrack The Twilight Saga: Eclipse at No. 2.

Notably, it’s been nearly 20 years since two theatrical film soundtracks have monopolized the top two. One has to scroll all the way back to July 25, 1998, when Armageddon — The Album and City of Angels were at Nos. 1 and 2.

Back on the new Billboard 200 chart, Tory Lanez notches his highest charting album yet, as his second full-length studio effort Memories Don’t Die debuts at No. 3. The set earned 54,000 units, of which 15,000 were in traditional album sales. The album’s bow is driven mostly by streaming activity, as it tallied 36,000 SEA units (equaling 54 million on-demand audio streams for the set’s tracks in its opening week).

Memories Don’t Die follows Lanez’s debut effort, I Told You, which bowed and peaked at No. 4 on the Sept. 10, 2016, list with 52,000 units earned in its first week.

Migos’ Culture II slips 3-4 on the latest Billboard 200, with 52,000 units (down 13 percent), while Ed Sheeran’s ÷ (Divide) climbs 6-5 with 36,000 units (down 9 percent). Post Malone’s Stoney is up one slot to No. 6 with 35,000 units (down 11 percent), Imagine Dragons’ Evolve rises 8-7 with 29,000 units (down 4 percent) and Camila Cabello’s Camila jumps back into the top 10 with a 12-8 ascent, tallying 27,000 units (up 3 percent).

Rounding out the top 10: Kendrick Lamar’s DAMN. is steady at No. 9 with 26,000 units (down 9 percent) while 6ix9ine’s DAY69 falls 4-10 in its second week with 24,000 units (down 55 percent).

Film Soundtracks Rule Top Two on Billboard 200 Albums Chart for First Time in Nearly 20 Years
By Keith Caulfield | March 11, 20184:59 PM EDT

It’s a big week for Hollywood at the top of the Billboard 200 albums chart. On the March 17-dated list, Black Panther: The Album returns to No. 1, while former leader The Greatest Showman steps 5-2. Soundtracks, thus, are the Nos. 1 and 2 albums on the chart simultaneously for the first time in almost eight years, and theatrical film soundtracks rule the top two for the first time in nearly 20 years.

Soundtracks last scored the Nos. 1 and 2 slots on the June 26, 2010-dated list with the TV soundtrack Glee: The Music, Journey to Regionals at No. 1 and the theatrical movie soundtrack The Twilight Saga: Eclipse at No. 2.

Notably, it’s been nearly 20 years since theatrical film soundtracks have monopolized the top two. One has to scroll all the way back to July 25, 1998, when Armageddon — The Album and City of Angels were at Nos. 1 and 2.

Since the Billboard 200 chart dated Aug. 17, 1963 — when Billboard combined previously separate mono and stereo album charts into one overall albums chart — just 26 weeks have seen soundtracks of all kinds at Nos. 1 and 2.

G-Eazy & Halsey's 'Him & I' Hits No. 1 on Pop Songs Airplay Chart
https://www.billboard.com/articles/colu ... ongs-chart
3/12/2018 by Gary Trust

The song is each artist's second Pop Songs leader.

G-Eazy and Halsey top Billboard's Pop Songs radio airplay chart (dated March 17), as "Him & I" rises 2-1.

The track is each artist's second Pop Songs leader. G-Eazy led the list for two weeks beginning April 23, 2016, with "Me, Myself & I," featuring Bebe Rexha, while Halsey reigned for 11 weeks beginning Oct. 8, 2016, as featured on The Chainsmokers' "Closer." Thus, "Him & I" marks her first Pop Songs No. 1 as a lead act.

The Pop Songs chart measures total weekly plays, as tabulated by Nielsen Music, among its reporting panel of 160 mainstream top 40 stations.

As for him and her romantically, G-Eazy and Halsey aren't the first couple in real life to top Pop Songs together: Beyonce led the list dated Aug. 16, 2003, with "Crazy in Love," featuring then-future husband JAY-Z.

Among other moves on Pop Songs, Camila Cabello earns her fourth top 10 as a soloist, as "Never Be the Same" surges 14-10. (Fifth Harmony, which Cabello left in December 2016, tallied two top 10s while she was a member.)

Plus, Meghan Trainor's "No Excuses" is the Pop Songs chart's top Greatest Gainer, jumping 40-26 with a 211 percent increase in plays.

G-Eazy and Halsey's "Him & I" has hit a No. 14 high on the streaming-, airplay- and sales-based Billboard Hot 100.

So where is the Beach House Devotion re-issue that HITS put at 15k + sold? Not reported for the sales week or simply made up?

Drake's 'God's Plan' Rules Billboard Hot 100 for Seventh Week; Zedd, Maren Morris & Grey's 'The Middle' Hits Top 10

Drake's "God's Plan" tops the Billboard Hot 100 chart for a seventh week (dating to its debut at No. 1). As the song sports 81.8 million U.S. streams, according to Nielsen Music, it has now logged seven of the top 10 streaming weeks ever.

Plus, Bruno Mars and Cardi B's "Finesse," back up to its No. 3 high on the Hot 100, takes over at No. 1 on the Radio Songs chart, where Mars passes Usher for the most leaders among male acts.

Additionally, Bebe Rexha and Florida Georgia Line's "Meant to Be" ascends to the Hot 100's top five (7-5), marking Rexha's first top five Hot 100 hit, and Zedd, Maren Morris and Grey reach the Hot 100's top 10 with "The Middle," which rises 11-8.

Let's run down the top 10 of the Hot 100 (dated March 17), which blends all-genre streaming, airplay and sales data. All charts will update on Billboard.com tomorrow (March 13).

As on the Hot 100, "Plan," released on Young Money/Cash Money/Republic Records, posts its seventh week at No. 1 on the Streaming Songs chart, down 12 percent to a still-giant 81.8 million U.S. streams in the week ending March 8.

"Plan," whose official video premiered Feb. 16, now boasts seven of the top 10 streaming weeks all-time:

103.1 million U.S. streams, "Harlem Shake," Baauer (driven heavily by viral videos incorporating the song's official audio), chart dated March 2, 2013
101.7 million, "God's Plan," Drake, March 3, 2018
97.6 million, "Harlem Shake," Baauer, March 9, 2013
92.8 million, "God's Plan," Drake, March 10, 2018
84.5 million, "Look What You Made Me Do," Taylor Swift, Sept. 16, 2017
83.3 million, "God's Plan," Drake, Feb. 10, 2018
82.4 million, "God's Plan," Drake, Feb. 3, 2018
81.8 million, "God's Plan," Drake, March 17, 2018
79.6 million, "God's Plan," Drake, Feb. 17, 2018
75.5 million, "God's Plan," Drake, Feb. 24, 2018

"Plan" rebounds 2-1 for a fifth week at No. 1 on the Digital Song Sales chart, despite decreasing by 14 percent to 57,000 downloads sold in the week ending March 8. On the Radio Songs chart, "Plan" pushes 5-3, up 8 percent to 95 million in all-format airplay audience in the week ending March 11.

"Plan" concurrently spends a seventh week at No. 1 on both the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Hot Rap Songs charts.

Ed Sheeran's former six-week No. 1 "Perfect" rebounds 3-2 on the Hot 100, while dropping to No. 2 on Radio Songs after nine weeks at No. 1 (130 million, down 2 percent). That means that there's a new No. 1 on Radio Songs …

… Bruno Mars and Cardi B's "Finesse" returns to its No. 3 Hot 100 peak, from No. 4, and crowns Radio Songs with a 2-1 rise (133 million, up 3 percent). Mars earns his eighth Radio Songs leader, passing Usher for the most No. 1s among male acts in the chart's 27-year history.

Here's an updated look at the acts with the most Radio Songs No. 1s:

13, Rihanna
11, Mariah Carey
8, Bruno Mars
7, Katy Perry
7, Usher

Cardi B collects her first Radio Songs No. 1.

Meanwhile, "Finesse" leads Hot R&B Songs for a ninth week.

After debuting a week ago at No. 2 on the Hot 100, Post Malone's "Psycho," featuring Ty Dolla $ign, dips to No. 4. Streams again account for the bulk of the track's activity, as it holds at No. 2 on Streaming Songs (41.8 million, down 24 percent).

Bebe Rexha and Florida Georgia Line's "Meant to Be" rises to the Hot 100's top five (7-5). It tops Hot Country Songs for a 15th week, extending its record for the most weeks at No. 1 in the chart's 59-year history for a song with lead female vocals; a week ago, it passed Little Big Town's "Girl Crush" (sung by the group's Karen Fairchild), which led for 13 weeks in 2015.

"Meant" additionally hits the top 10 on Country Airplay (11-9) and Adult Pop Songs (11-8), while climbing 10-9 on Pop Songs. The gains spark the collab's 8-4 burst on Radio Songs (92 million, up 15 percent), good for the Hot 100's top Airplay Gainer award.

The song's entrance to the Hot 100's top five marks notable milestones for both acts. Rexha earns her first top five hit, besting her prior No. 7 high, first set by "Me, Myself & I," with G-Eazy, in 2016. Florida Georgia Line, meanwhile, notches its second top five song, following its debut smash "Cruise," featuring Nelly, which reached No. 4 in 2013. FGL becomes the first core country act to tally two top five hits on the Hot 100 since then-country artist Taylor Swift (before her 2014 segue to pop) collected her first two: she hit No. 4 with "Love Story" and No. 2 with "You Belong With Me" in 2009.

(Even more on Florida Georgia Line just ahead …)

Camila Cabello's "Havana," featuring Young Thug, retreats 5-6 on the Hot 100, after topping the Jan. 27-dated chart, and BlocBoy JB's "Look Alive," featuring Drake, falls 6-7 after reaching No. 5.

Zedd, Maren Morris and Grey's "The Middle" ascends 11-8 on the Hot 100. The track holds at its No. 4 peak on Digital Song Sales (41,000, up 8 percent); jumps 16-11 on Radio Songs (66 million, up 16 percent); and slips 17-19 on Streaming Songs, although with a 7 percent gain to 20.9 million.

Zedd scores his fourth Hot 100 top 10, following his first entry on the chart, "Clarity," featuring Foxes (No. 8, 2013); "Break Free," by Ariana Grande featuring Zedd (No. 4, 2014); and "Stay," with Alessia Cara (No. 7, 2017).

Morris and Grey each earn their first Hot 100 top 10. Morris previously peaked at No. 39 as featured on Thomas Rhett's "Craving You" last July, while duo Grey hit a prior No. 12 best in its only other visit, also with Zedd: "Starving," by Hailee Steinfeld and Grey featuring Zedd, reached that rank in December 2016.

"The Middle" concurrently leads Hot Dance/Electronic Songs for a sixth week.

Back to FGL: with Florida Georgia Line and Morris, who has notched two No. 1s on Country Airplay ("Craving You" last July and "I Could Use a Love Song" this January), two country acts appear in the Hot 100's top 10 simultaneously for the first time this decade. (Of course, "The Middle" is a pop/EDM track not being promoted to country radio.) The last time that two core country acts previously ranked in the Hot 100's top 10 in the same week: April 4, 2009, when Carrie Underwood's remake of Randy Travis' "I Told You So," featuring Travis, zoomed 57-9 after the pair performed it on American Idol.

The last time that two core country artists had placed in the Hot 100's top 10 in the same frame thanks to two songs, as FGL and Morris do this week? May 13, 2000: Faith Hill's "Breathe" (No. 3) and Lonestar's "Amazed" (No. 10).

The Weeknd and Kendrick Lamar's "Pray for Me" holds at No. 9 on the Hot 100, after debuting at its No. 7 peak. The duet hits the Radio Songs top 10 (13-10; 68 million, up 9 percent), becoming The Weeknd's eighth top 10 on the chart and Lamar's fifth.

Rounding out the Hot 100's top 10, Migos' "Stir Fry" returns to the tier (12-10) after reaching No. 8.

Just outside the Hot 100's top 10, Offset and Metro Boomin's "Ric Flair Drip" bounds 36-16 as the Hot 100's top Streaming Gainer (25.6 million, up 58 percent)) after the first full tracking week for its official video; XXXTentacion's "Sad!" debuts at No. 17, marking a new high on the chart for the rapper; Cabello's "Havana" follow-up "Never Be the Same" hits a new peak, jumping 24-19; and DJ Khaled's "Top Off," featuring JAY Z, Future and Beyoncé (credited simply as B on this song) debuts at No. 22.

Find out more Hot 100 news in the weekly "Hot 100 Chart Moves" column and by listening (and subscribing) to Billboard's Chart Beat Podcast and Pop Shop Podcast. And again, be sure to visit Billboard.com tomorrow (March 13), when all charts, including the Hot 100 in its entirety, will refresh.

Film soundtracks hold down the top two spots for the first time in 20 years
Paul Grein, Writer
Yahoo Music
March 12, 2018

For the first time in nearly 20 years, soundtracks to theatrically released films hold down the top two spots on the Billboard 200. Black Panther: The Album returns to No. 1 in its fourth week on the chart. The Greatest Showman rebounds from No. 5 to No. 2 in its 13th week. This is the first time that soundtracks to theatrically released films have held down the top two spots since July 1998, when Armageddon and City of Angels ruled the roost.

Those were both rock-dominated soundtracks. Aerosmith and Journey had the key tracks on Armageddon: The Album. Goo Goo Dolls and Alanis Morissette paced City of Angels. By contrast — and very much reflecting changes in contemporary music over the past two decades — Black Panther: The Album is a rap album, while The Greatest Showman is a pop collection.

Keala Settle performed “This Is Me” from The Greatest Showman on the Oscars (though the song came up short in what was likely a close race with “Remember Me” from Coco). Black Panther has yielded two top 10 singles on the Hot 100 — “Pray for Me” by the Weeknd & Kendrick Lamar, and “All the Stars” by Lamar & SZA.

This is the third week on top for Black Panther: The Album, which becomes the first soundtrack to log three weeks in the top position since Frozen spent 13 weeks on top in 2014. Moreover, it becomes the first soundtrack to a live-action, theatrically released film to log three or more weeks at the top since Bad Boys II topped the chart for four weeks in 2003.

Black Panther is No. 1 on Top Soundtracks for the fourth week. (Likewise, the film was No. 1 at the box office for the fourth consecutive weekend.)

The Greatest Showman was the week’s top seller in traditional album sales, but lost out to Black Panther when digital track sales and streaming were factored in. This is the third time The Greatest Showman has been the week’s top seller but hasn’t ranked No. 1 on the Billboard 200. It is the first album to experience this fate three times.

The Greatest Showman is No. 1 on the U.K.’s Official Albums Chart for the ninth week. That’s the longest run for a soundtrack in the U.K. since Grease had 13 weeks on top in 1978.

Bon Jovi’s 2016 album This House Is Not for Sale interrupted Black Panther‘s run at No. 1 last week, when it reappeared on the chart due to a concert ticket/album sale redemption offer. Wanna know what happened to the album this week? It plummeted to No. 169. That’s the steepest fall from No. 1 since 1963, when separate mono and stereo charts were combined into one comprehensive chart. The old record for steepest fall was set last September by Brand New’s Science Fiction, which dove from No. 1 to No. 97 in its second week.

Let’s review: Two weeks ago, Bon Jovi’s album wasn’t listed on the Billboard 200. Last week, it was No. 1. This week, it free-falls to No. 169. I think Billboard needs to take another look at these concert ticket/album sale redemption promotions. This isn’t a hit album as much as it’s a tour souvenir — not much different from a concert program or a T-shirt. The Billboard 200 should be reserved for hit albums.

It sometimes takes something outlandish to make Billboard see the need to review its chart policies. Michael Jackson had best-selling album for six weeks following his death in 2009, but that album, Number Ones, wasn’t eligible to appear on the Billboard 200 because it was an older catalog album. Before the year was over, the rules were changed to make catalog albums eligible for the big chart. Unless Billboard wants to see more strangeness at the top of one of its flagship charts, it needs to review this policy too.

Top Albums

Canadian rapper Torey Lanez lands his second top-five album as Memories Don’t Die debuts at a career best No. 3. His debut, I Told You, peaked at No. 4 in September 2016.

Migos’s Culture II dips from No. 3 to No. 4 in its sixth week. The album debuted at No. 1.

Ed Sheeran’s ÷ inches up from No. 6 to No. 5 in its 53rd week. The album spent its first two weeks at No. 1.

Post Malone’s Stoney inches up from No. 7 to No. 6 in its 65th week. The album peaked at No. 4.

Imagine Dragons’ Evolve inches up from No. 8 to No. 7 in its 37th week. The album debuted and peaked at No. 2.

Camila Cabello’s Camila rebounds from No. 12 to No. 8 in its eighth week. The album debuted at No. 1.

Kendrick Lamar’s DAMN holds at No. 9 in its 47th week. The album spent four weeks at No. 1.

6ix9ine’s DAY69 drops from No. 4 to No. 10 in its second week.

As noted above, Bon Jovi’s This House Is Not for Sale plummets from No. 1 to No. 169. One other album drops out of the top 10 this week. Vance Joy’sNation of Two dives from No. 10 to No. 73.

Tech N9ne cracks the top 20 for the 11th time as Planet debuts at No. 14. The rapper’s top 20 tally includes one EP, Klusterfuk.

Kane Brown’s Kane Brown drops from No. 22 to No. 24 in its 66th week. The album peaked at No. 5. The album logs its eighth week at No. 1 on Top Country Albums.

The Coco soundtrack vaults from No. 120 to No. 39 in the week after the Oscars, where its key song, “Remember Me,” won for Best Song. This represents a new peak for the soundtrack, which previously climbed as high as No. 55.
Drake’s Take Care rebounds from No. 55 to No. 48 in its 262nd chart week. The album debuted at No. 1 in December 2011. The album returns to No. 1 on Top Catalog Albums, displacing Ed Sheeran’s x. This is its second week on top.

Coming attractions: Look for Logic’s Bobby Tarantino II mixtape to debut at No. 1 next week. Lil Yachty’s Lil Boat 2 will probably open right around No. 3. Jimi Hendrix’s Both Sides of the Sky may squeeze into the top 10.

Top Songs

Drake’s “God’s Plan,” which entered the Hot 100 at No. 1 six weeks ago, sits tight in its seventh week. “God’s Plan” is the first song to spend its first seven weeks at No. 1 since Adele’s “Hello” spent its first 10 weeks on top in 2015-16. It’s the first song by a male artist to spend its first seven weeks at No. 1 since Elton John’s “Candle in the Wind”/”Something about the Way You Look Tonight,” which spent its first 14 weeks on top in 1997-98.

“God’s Plan” seems likely to log 10 or more weeks at No. 1. It would be Drake’s second song to do so, following his 2016 smash “One Dance,” which spent 10 weeks on top. Drake is vying to become the second male solo artist with two singles that have logged 10 or more weeks at No. 1. Pharrell Williams was the first, but only combining lead and featured roles. He was featured on Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” (12 weeks on top in 2013) and followed up with his own “Happy” (10 weeks in 2014).

“God’s Plan” sold 57K digital copies last week, which allows it to return to No. 1 on Top Digital Songs after being displaced last week by Post Malone’s “Psycho” (featuring Ty Dolla $ign). This is its fifth week on top.
“God’s Plan” logs its seventh week at No. 1 on both the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and The Official U.K. Singles Chart.

Ed Sheeran’s “Perfect” rebounds from No. 3 to No. 2 in its 28th week. The song logged six weeks at No. 1.

Bruno Mars & Cardi B’s “Finesse” rebounds from No. 4 to No. 3 in its 10th week. This matches its highest ranking to date.

Post Malone’s “Psycho” (featuring Ty Dolla $ign) drops from No. 2 to No. 4 in its second week.

“Meant to Be” by Bebe Rehxa & Florida Georgia Line jumps from No. 7 to No. 5 in its 20th week. This is Florida Georgia Line’s second top five hit, following “Cruise” (featuring Nelly), which reached No. 4 in July 2013. FGL is the first core country act to notch two top five hits on the Hot 100 since Taylor Swift amassed five top five hits while she was a core country artist, before she went pop. “Meant to Be” holds at No. 1 on Hot Country Songs for the 15th consecutive week.

Camila Cabello’s “Havana” (featuring Young Thug) dips from No. 5 to No. 6 in its 30th week. The song reached No. 1.

BlocBoy JB’s “Look Alive” (featuring Drake) dips from No. 6 to No. 7 in its fourth week. The song peaked at No. 5.

“The Middle” by Zedd, Maren Morris & Grey jumps from No. 11 to No. 8 in its sixth week. It’s Zedd’s fourth top 10 hit, following “Clarity” (featuring Foxes), “Stay” (a collabo with Alessia Cara) and Ariana Grande’s “Break Free,” on which he was featured. It’s the first top 10 hit for both Morris and Grey.

This marks the first time that there were two songs in the top 10 by core country artists since May 2000, when Faith Hill’s “Breathe” was No. 3 and Lonestar’s “Amazed” was No. 10. (“The Middle” is a pop/EDM track not being promoted to country radio, but Morris is a core country artist nonetheless.)

This is the second time in recent months that a core country artist has released a track aimed squarely at pop radio. Carrie Underwood’s “The Champion” (featuring Ludacris) debuted and peaked at No. 47 on the Hot 100, but didn’t chart country. The lines between genres are getting fuzzier all the time.

“Pray for Me” by The Weeknd & Kendrick Lamar holds at No. 9 in its fifth week. The song peaked at No. 7.

Migos’ “Stir Fry” rebounds from No. 12 to No. 10 in its 11th week. The song has climbed as high as No. 8.

Two songs drop out of the top 10 this week—Post Malone’s “Rockstar” (featuring 21 Savage) and “All the Stars” by Kendrick Lamar & SZA.
“Rick Flair Drip” by Offset & Metro Boomin’ vaults from No. 36 to No. 16 in its 19th week.

XXXTentacion’s “Sad!” is the week’s highest new entry at No. 17. It (surprisingly) debuts ahead of DJ Khaled’s superstar-laden “Top Off,” which opens at No. 22. The track features Jay Z, Future and Beyoncé (credited simply as B).
Camila Cabello lands her fourth top 20 hit as a solo artist as “Never Be the Same” jumps from No. 24 to No. 19 in its 12th week. By comparison, Cabello landed two top 10 hits as a member of Fifth Harmony.

Ed Sheeran’s “Perfect” tops the 2 million mark in digital sales this week. It’s the second song from his current album ÷ to top 2 million in digital sales. “Shape of You” is up to 2,670,000.

'Coco' Soundtrack Hits Top 40 on Billboard 200 Chart After Oscars, Plus: Gains for Sufjan Stevens, 'The Greatest Showman' & More
https://www.billboard.com/articles/colu ... ter-oscars
3/12/2018 by Keith Caulfield

Plus: Keala Settle’s “This Is Me” rises on multiple lists, Stevens’ “Mystery of Love” vaults 47-13 on Hot Rock Songs.

The 90th Academy Awards impact the charts, as all of the nominees for best original song make gains on our tallies dated March 17.

“Remember Me,” from Coco, took home the Oscar for original song, and was performed on the live ABC TV broadcast – as were all five of the nominated songs. On the show, “Remember Me” was performed in a medley, where its lullaby rendition (by the film’s Gael Garcia Bernal) segued to Miguel’s version, featuring Natalia Lafourcade. (“Remember Me” is performed a number of times in Coco by different sets of characters.)

Coco also won the Oscar for best animated feature.

Miguel’s “Remember Me” was the most streamed and biggest selling rendition of the track in the week ending March 8, according to Nielsen Music. It collected 1.58 million on-demand streams (audio and video combined) — up 114 percent.

On Kid Digital Song Sales, four tunes from Coco dot the top 10 of the list, led by Miguel’s “Remember Me,” featuring Lafourcade, which re-enters at No. 2 (4,000 downloads sold in the week ending March 8, according to Nielsen Music; up 325 percent). The lullaby version of “Remember Me” returns at No. 5 (3,000; up 276 percent), while Anthony Gonzalez and Garcia Bernal’s “Un Poco Loco” (14-6 with 2,000; up 129 percent) and Gonzalez’s “Proud Corazon” (21-9 with 2,000; up 136 percent) also impact the top 10.

All of Billboard's charts dated March 17 will refresh to our websites on March 13.

The soundtrack to Coco zips 8-4 on the Soundtracks chart with 12,000 equivalent album units (up 94 percent). On the Billboard 200, the set hits a new chart high — and reaches the top 40 for the first time — as the album climbs 120-39.

Another Coco soundtrack set, the Banda Sonora En Espanol edition of the album (which features music from and inspired by the movie, performed in Spanish), charges 28-13 on the Top Latin Albums chart (nearly 2,000 units; up 89 percent). It just barely misses the 25-position threshold of the Soundtracks tally.

Let’s take a look at the other four nominees for best original song, and dig into their impact in streams, sales and on the charts:

“This Is Me,” from The Greatest Showman — Keala Settle’s show-stopping performance of the track on the Oscars helps the song surge to 6.83 million on-demand streams for the week (up 11 percent). The song, credited to Settle and The Greatest Showman Ensemble, also sold 25,000 downloads – a gain of 124 percent. On the Billboard Hot 100, “This Is Me” climbs 87-60.

In addition, the track hits its first airplay chart, as “This Is Me” debuts at No. 40 on the Adult Pop Songs tally. Over on the Dance Club Songs list, the song rises 12-9.

As for the soundtrack to The Greatest Showman, the album moves 5-2 on the Billboard 200 with 60,000 units (up 14 percent) and returns to No. 1 on Top Album Sales (39,000 in traditional album sales; up 19 percent). On the Soundtracks chart, it is steady at No. 2. (On both the Billboard 200 and Soundtracks, The Greatest Showman trails Black Panther: The Album.)

“Mystery of Love,” from Call Me by Your Name — Sufjan Stevens’ “Mystery of Love” hits a new peak on the Hot Rock Songs chart, as the track breaks the top 30 for the first time, rising 47-13. The song collected 1.62 million on-demand streams in the week ending March 8 (up 138 percent) and sold 8,000 downloads (up 631 percent). The track also debuts at No. 6 on Alternative Digital Song Sales, and at No. 8 on Rock Digital Song Sales.

“Mystery of Love” was one of two new compositions Stevens contributed to Call Me by Your Name. The other, “Visions of Gideon,” makes its chart debut, as it arrives at No. 43 on Hot Rock Songs. It snared 590,000 streams (up 57 percent) and 2,000 in sales (up 190 percent).

As for the Call Me by Your Name soundtrack itself, the title hits a new high on the Soundtracks chart, zipping 23-13 (4,000 units; up 86 percent).

“Mighty River,” from Mudbound and “Stand Up for Something,” from Marshall — On R&B Digital Song Sales, “Mighty River,” by Mary J. Blige, bows at No. 20 with 3,000 sold (up 674 percent). It’s the first visit to any chart by the Oscar-nominated track.

In the week ending March 8, “Mighty River” also tallied 119,000 on-demand streams (up 664 percent).

A few steps above “Mighty River,” Andra Day’s “Stand Up for Something,” featuring Common, enters at No. 12 with 4,000 sold (up 526 percent). On the Adult R&B Songs airplay chart, the track dips 21-25 after previously topping out at No. 17 (Jan. 27).

“Stand Up for Something” also scored 189,000 on-demand audio streams in the tracking week (up 137 percent).

Ricky Martin's 'Fiebre' Performance Rules Top Facebook Live Videos Chart
https://www.billboard.com/articles/colu ... ive-videos
3/12/2018 by Kevin Rutherford

Martin leads Claudia Leitte, whose videos from Brazilian Carnival take Nos. 2-4.

Ricky Martin’s new single “Fiebre” has made a splash on the Billboard charts since its mid-February release, debuting at No. 27 on the Hot Latin Songs chart dated March 10, and now the track helps the Latin star to another chart peak -- this time at No. 1.

Martin’s Feb. 23 Facebook Live video in which he performed the song, which features Wisin & Yandel, live in Dubai, leads Billboard’s Top Facebook Live Videos chart for February 2018.

The chart, whose latest edition recaps February 2018 activity, is a monthly look at the widest-reaching and most-reacted-to videos posted by musicians on Facebook Live, as tracked by media analytics company Shareablee. Rankings are determined by a formula that blends reactions, comments, shares and first-seven-days views.

Martin’s “Fiebre” performance, taken from the Emirate Airlines Dubai Jazz Festival, was filmed using a camera that allowed viewers to rotate the clip 360 degrees. It led all Facebook Live videos from musicians in February 2018 in reactions (142,000) and first-seven-days views (12.3 million), according to Shareablee.

However, Martin’s performance could not top the other two metrics on the chart, comments and shares. That distinction goes to Muse, whose Feb. 24 livestream from the band’s request-driven show in Paris moved 60,000 comments and 15,000 shares – the former number understandable since viewers could request songs using Facebook’s comments function on the clip. The video ranks at No. 5 overall on the February 2018 chart.

Between Martin and Muse, Claudia Leitte takes Nos. 2-4 thanks to posts amid the 2018 Brazilian Carnival, which took place Feb. 9-14. In addition to making videos from the celebration, Leitte also promoted her new song “Carnaval,” featuring Pitbull.

See the full top 10, which also features videos from Alicia Keys, Kelly Clarkson, Jessie Ware and KISS, below.

Florida Georgia Line & Maren Morris Mark First Pair of Country Acts in Hot 100's Top 10 Simultaneously This Decade
https://www.billboard.com/articles/colu ... 100-top-10
3/12/2018 by Gary Trust

Bebe Rexha & FGL's "Meant to Be" hits the top five & Morris' "The Middle," with Zedd & Grey, zips 11-8.

Country acts make themselves at home in the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 this week, as a pair of country artists rank in the region concurrently for the first time this decade.

As previously reported, Bebe Rexha and Florida Georgia Line's "Meant to Be" reaches the top five, climbing from No. 7 to No. 5 on the Hot 100 (dated March 17), while Zedd, Maren Morris and Grey's "The Middle" rises 11-8.

Thanks to Florida Georgia Line, who have earned 11 No. 1s on Billboard's Country Airplay chart, and Morris, who has notched two leaders, two country acts appear in the Hot 100's top 10 simultaneously for the first time in the 2010s. (Of course, "The Middle" is a pop/EDM track not being promoted to country radio; it concurrently leads Hot Dance/Electronic Songs for a sixth week.)

The last time that two core country acts previously ranked in the Hot 100's top 10 in the same week: April 4, 2009, when Carrie Underwood's remake of Randy Travis' 1988 country hit "I Told You So," featuring Travis, soared from No. 57 to No. 9 after the pair performed it on American Idol. The last time that two core country artists had placed in the Hot 100's top 10 thanks to two songs, as FGL and Morris do this week? May 13, 2000: Faith Hill's "Breathe" (No. 3) and Lonestar's "Amazed" (No. 10).

"Meant to Be" and "The Middle" mark two of the latest songs in a trend of collaborations by pop and country acts. Also climbing Country Airplay is Chris Lane's "Take Back Home Girl," featuring Tori Kelly (24-22).

Florida Georgia Line's "God, Your Mama, And Me," featuring Backstreet Boys, led the Country Airplay chart dated July 8, 2017, while, in 2016, Kenny Chesney's "Setting the World on Fire," featuring P!nk, topped the tally and Brad Paisley's "Without a Fight," featuring Demi Lovato, reached the top 20.

Bruno Mars Passes Usher for Most Radio Songs No. 1s Among Males, Thanks to 'Finesse' With Cardi B
https://www.billboard.com/articles/colu ... adio-songs
3/12/2018 by Gary Trust

The collab becomes Mars' eighth No. 1 & Cardi B's first.

Bruno Mars and Cardi B's "Finesse" rises from No. 2 to No. 1 on Billboard's Radio Songs chart (dated March 17), granting Mars a record: He earns his eighth Radio Songs leader, passing Usher for the most No. 1s among male acts in the chart's 27-year history.

Radio Songs measures all-format weekly audience impressions, according to Nielsen Music, on more than 1,200 U.S. radio stations. "Finesse" tops the tally with a 3 percent gain to 133 million in audience in the week ending March 8.

Among all acts, Rihanna leads with 13 Radio Songs No. 1s. Mariah Carey ranks second with 11, followed by Mars (eight), Katy Perry and Usher (each with seven) and Beyoncé, Ludacris, Taylor Swift and Kanye West (six each).

Here's a recap of Mars' eight Radio Songs No. 1s:

"Nothin' On You," B.O.B feat. Mars, beginning May, 22, 2010 (three weeks at No. 1)
"Just the Way You Are," Oct. 23, 2010 (seven)
"Grenade," Feb. 26, 2011 (three)
"Locked Out of Heaven," Jan. 5, 2013 (seven)
"When I Was Your Man," April 6, 2013 (five)
"Uptown Funk!," Mark Ronson feat. Mars, Feb. 7, 2015 (12)
"That's What I Like," May 20, 2017 (nine)
"Finesse," Mars & Cardi B, March 17, 2018 (one to date)

With "Finesse," Cardi B collects her first Radio Songs No. 1. She reached a prior No. 10 peak with her debut hit "Bodak Yellow (Money Moves)" last October.

As previously reported, "Finesse" returns to its No. 3 high on the streaming-, airplay- and sales-based Billboard Hot 100. All charts will update Tuesday (March 13) on Billboard.com.
