The leaders of North and South Korea have pledged to jointly eliminate the risk of war and work together to achieve complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

The joint statement Friday, from the border truce village of Panmunjom, concluded a historic one-day bilateral summit aimed at achieving peace between the longtime adversaries for the first time in more than sixty years. The meeting of the Korean leaders was the first in more than a decade.

The statement was released during the signing of a pact between South Korean President Moon Jae-In and his North Korean counterpart Kim Jong Un seeking to establish a "permanent" and "solid" peace on the Peninsula.

The two Koreas promised to ease military tensions, work together to achieve a peace regime, and work toward a nuclear-free region. They also pledged to improve inter-Korean relations, work toward co-prosperity and achieve a future of unification.

imagine North Korea become a more liberal and free country... the opportunities for foreign companies...

opening this market of 25m people would be so great for the world economy.

I mean it’s great news on the face of it.

But China are reporting North Korea’s nuclear test site collapsed, so coupled with all the sanctions you have to wonder if Kim is doing this because he wants to, or because he has to.

I mean, last year he was firing missiles over Japan and suddenly he’s stopping all nuclear programmes and looking to build relations with the South. I’m here for it, but I don’t see it.

But ABBA and Korea reuniting on the same day? The world wasn’t ready. Thank god Beyonce didn’t surprise drop a 3rd album because we’d all need to phone in sick for the next week

My thoughts exactly... I mean, sanctions or not, to do a complete 180 for no obvious reason is kinda weird, especially for someone like Kim Jong Un. Hoping for the best, but I'm not gonna celebrate just yet.

This is the best news we’ve seen in a long time, I just can’t see how North Korea can change though when they’ve spent the last 75 years brainwashing its residents. It feels like the damage is already done for the people of North Korea

it all makes sense with the combination of presidents.
the differences is president of S.korea and America.
S.kore president Moon is fair and great man who doesn't use N.kore fear for vote. his goal always been about communication with them to make peace. previous 2 president who right now in jail use that and bashed them all the time for vote. no communication.
and Trump ironically his no deep connection with political world did good thing.
he didn't follow japan money driven US politic world. (japan want the war for money)
he just wants the title. president who ended korea war.. I mean some are expecting him to win novel peace prize.. lol

Obama never wanted korea to be united. hillary? same. she said it directly at some speaking "we don't want that"

It creates an interesting opportunity for North and South Korea to enter into talks.

Apparently, the North Korean economy is in tatters, seriously harmed by the lack of foreign currency passing through - however, Kim Jong Un himself is still moderately wealthy thanks to the money raised via Office 39.

According to China, North Korea's nuclear site has collapsed and so very likely this denuclearization has more to do with not starting it from scratch again, rather than giving up its nuclear capabilities.
