What is ANSA stand for?
Thanks.
It's "Agenzia Nazionale Stampa Associata"; the main press agency in Italy.
Anyway the figure for Gianna is old, already in mid-May there was a press saying it sold more than 200.000 copies!"Grazie" is the best selling album of 2006 in Italy and sold more than 350.000 copies(380.000-my estimation).

Frankie, can it be sales numbers, estimations or confirmed, for Queen albums?. I read that Greatest hits 1 was about 0,8 M in Italy in 1998, but I think it´s not true because it didn´t chart high. Thank you in advance.

No, i doubt it's true!Greatest Hits 1 did poorly when it came out in 1981; it re-charted in 1991 when the Greatest Hits II was out and had a better chart run!On the other hand Greatest Hits II is a huge seller in italy with 1,0 M copies.

Hi will231982!

As you probably know it's quite hard to get sales figures for Italy!Usually you can find in internet some old press concerning some certification, but i found absolutely nothing about Iron Maiden :o

It's a shame, because they have always been a constant decent seller here(like maany rock bands)!

Their first albums(Iron Maiden and Killers)don't appear in the year-end charts of their calendar year
so i suppose they're mainly catalog sellers(they both re-entered the top100 in the past weeks after AMOLAD was released)

Here's the year-end chart positions for their albums:
1982 The Number Of The Beast (no.61)
1983 Piece Of Mind (no.89)
1986 Somewhere In Time (no.77)
1988 Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son (no.58)
1990 No Prayer For The Dying (no.89)
1992 Fear Of The Dark (no.69)
1993 A Real Live One (no.77)
1995 The X Factor (no.74)
1996 The Best Of The Beast (no.95)
1998 Virtual XI (no.101)
2000 Brave New World (no.60)
2002 Rock In Rio (no.143)
2003 Dance Of Death (no.64)

When you think that even nowdays, when sales are poor, a no.90-95 in the year-end chart is Gold,i think all their studio albums gone GOLD at least; the biggest sellers being the 80's ones(Gold was 100.000 copies at the time; a classic album like The Number of The Beast, with catalog sales could easily be on 200.000 copies, but no way to know that for sure)and the first from the 90's (No prayer, fear).
The other albums from the 90's and 00's are Gold too i think(x Factor, brave new, dance of death)and all sold between 50.000 and 100.000 copies!
A Matter OF Life And Death could become Platinum, since the platinum level now is lower(80.000)!

I hope i helped you in some way

I remember a few press releases regarding gold album for No prayer (first gold record ever, more than 100,000 copie sold), Fear of the dark, X factor (sales level lowered to 50,000 copies) and BNW. Also Emi announced that A matter sold more than 50,000 copie sin three weeks so it must be gold too

Oh good news Matteo
Well i think that No Prayer was the first to be officially certified(the first to appear in a press about its certification), but some 80's albums charted higher in the year-end chart, so they probably sold the same amount as No Prayer(if not more)!
A Matter of life and death i think is on its way to Platinum!

Thanks a lot Frankie and Matteo for the info!! :D
I guess we will just have to wait and hope that the certifications get published somewhere!

BTW, Does the FIMI website have info about the latest certifications, say from about 2000 onwards??

hi mate

no the fimi site deals only charts...a few years ago I wrote them an e-mail asking for gold certifications and they said that only record companies know them since there is not any auditing society for gold certifications like in the rest of the world
