According to madonna.com, IFPI has come up with an updated list of the highest selling artists of all time:

01. The Beatles 40 400,000,000 UK 60s (1962-1970) Rock/Pop Guinness/EMI
02. Michael Jackson 14 350,000,000 US 70s-00s (1979-) Pop/R&B MJ Stats
03. Elvis Presley 150 300,000,000 US 50s-70s (1956-1977) Country/Rock
04. Madonna 16 275,000,000 US 80s-00s (1984-) Pop WBR [1]
05. Nana Mouskouri 450 250,000,000 Greece 60s-00s (1959-) Pop [2][3]
06. Cliff Richard 60 250,000,000 UK 50s-00s (1959-1969,1977-1979,1986-1999) Rock/Pop [4]
07.The Rolling Stones 54 ~250,000,000 UK 60s-00s (1964-1981) Rock 60.5 million in the US [5]
08. Mariah Carey 14 230,000,000 US 90s-00s (1990-) Pop/R&B
09. Elton John 43 ~220,000,000 UK 70s-00s (1972-1976,1989-1991,1997-) Pop [6]
10.Celine Dion 21 220,000,000 Canada 80s-00s (1990-) Pop Music/Pop Discography

Anyone would know what data has been used to come up with this pile of crap? Nana Mouskouri has NOT sold that many records. Impossible. If so, why don't they list the album and singles along with their respective worldwide sales. Go figure.

Hi, the first time I saw that list it was 4 days ago, it was posted in a Mariah Carey Spanish-spoken forum, but there was not a direct link to the source. I am a die-hard (lol) fan of Michael Jackson and I know very much about their sales but I consider impossible that he has reached 350 millions. It's possible that he has reached 300 but 350 seems too much for me.

Anyone can confirm this information or is it a oax? BTW, this is the complete list, fasten your seatbelts!

1 The Beatles 40+ 400,000,000 UK 60s (1962-1970) Rock/Pop Guinness/EMI

LOL!!!!!!

This hoax spread all over the Net. We first saw it when someone posted here because a Britney Spears fansite posted it and then DrownedMadonna posted it and now Madonna.com are taking advantage of this stupidity of the Net and takes it as granted

This is so funny and confirms how rumours and false news can spread all over the Net and people believe it.

Hey, c'mon. First... go to the source... where is this on IFPI?. Second, all we visit Wikipedia can recognize this list as the one that was on Wikipedia (before the last edit).

Can people provide me with a link from that Wikipedia article? I can't find it. Also, how in the world an OFFICIALwebsite like Madonna's go on and publish unverified information like that? That's pretty unprofessional.

www.wikipedia.org search "best selling artists worldwide". Now it's updated with a new version that is not like this spreaded, but you can tell the similaries (for example, the [ ] with numbers next to each artist that is a lik to a source: article, website, etc...) or the Musical genre, etc.

Madonna.com is runned by a fan, not her management.

No, it's not - Madonna owns her domain and it is run under her assistant's supervision. It is not run by a simple "fan."

However, I think this list is still suspect.

The fact is that Madonna official site (www.madonna.com) gives credit to this list. And this is very bad, it gives the idea that the side is runned not very accurately ! :o
Wikipedia is definitely not the most reliable source. Ad as many pointed out, there is nothing like that on the IFPI website.

MTL21a, Your list is defonately not an IFPI list. So you must change the title of your forum to something else. Someone working for the IFPI will be very unhappy about such a false claim.

Britney has actually sold more then that if you add in Single sales. Her amount goes like this:

BOMT - 25 million
Oops - 20 million
Britney - 12 million
In the Zone - 8 million
Gh:MP - 6 million
Remixes - 500,000 copies
=71.5 million
+45 million singles sold
=116.5 million Records sold.

Poor Christina she's not even passed the 30 million mark yet lol.

This is not mtl2la’s list. He/she just copied and pasted what was published on an artist’s official website for everyone to discuss about it.
