Greatest hits 1 of Queen sold more than 18 millions copies (and without including Platinium collection). And the same for Greatest hits 2 worldwide.

Interesting thread, should get many replies with various opinions. People will debate and have multiple reactions since threads of this nature always provoke that.

The Wall has sold around 26 million copies worldwide to date, not 24 million.

I think that 40 millions copies for "The dark side of the moon" is too much.

Current official info says about 25 million units of both parts (without box sets and "Classics Queen"). "Greatest Hits" has moved 16 million copies and "Greatest Hits II" 9 million. Box set "Greatest Hits I&II" has moved about 2 million (each disc 1 million) and "The Platinum Collection" about 5 million (each disc 1,5 million). And "Classics Queen" (US version of "GH II") has moved about 4 million units.

Greatest hits 2 Queen:

UK: 2,6 M (2000)

GER: 2 M (1993)

FRA: 1,1 M (1992)

ITA: 1 M (1992)

SPA: 6,6 (only cd´s until 2004 according to EMI)

ARG: 1,2 (estimated number)

Those are numbers from only 6 countries, and it´s about 8,2 between them. So number is much higher than 9 million copies as you say.

Greatest hits 1 sold more than 7 millions copies in USA (was certified 7 playinum awards), and 4 millions in UK, and 1,5 milions in Germany. So that is at least 12,5 millions copies only in 3 countries, and for that reason, it´s more than 16 millions.

And about Classic queen, some sources claim 5 millions between USA and Canada.

I think that 40 million isn't enough and it's impossible that AC/DC or The Eagles have sold more records. Besides, since 2003 you can buy new remastered edition of this masterpiece on SACD and it's a bestseller too.

Thanx for correction, but give me a link.
In the "Chart Histories" thread, I went over Floyd's entire catalogue sales and overall sales (RIAA) for the US, thanks to Hanboo who provided their updated Soundscan info. Now, I think we can all agree that 50% of The Walls' sales are from the US. It was certified 11.5x Platinum by the RIAA in 1999 and it sold roughly 350,000 copies that year. From 1999 to 2001 it sold roughly 250,000 copies annually and from 2001 to 2005 it sold roughly 175,000 annually. So considering the above, The Wall has now sold around 13 million copies in the US.

Hello, some links. I hope you can visit that pages, which have a lot of information.

From Germany:

http://www.ifpi.de/

You have to search for platinum awards of Queen. You will see four certifications for Greates hits 2, which was at that time 2 M, and three certifications for Greatest hits, which was at that time 1,5.

From UK:

http://www.bpi.co.uk/

It was certified 4 platinum awards for 2,4 M. But according to several sources it was the 12 best selling album of the 90´s in UK, and current sales were 2,6 M there. You can see it in the topic of "most successful artist and albums in UK".

From France:

here you have a link

http://www.infodisc.fr/CD_Certif.php

There you can see the diamond album for Greatest hits 2.

And about Spain I don´t have a link, but it appeared on EMI page from that country, when Queen was give 3 diamond award for all their albums in cd´s there. You can see it on caal.net, the page you gave me.

And I don´t have link for Italy, but it was 6 weeks at number one, and was second best selling album between 1991 and 1992. That figure sales was give by some media from that country. And thank yoo for the page, it´s very good.

Remember that Soundscan figures are deducted from RIAA figures, not added to them. Let's wait for new certification to be sure.

Thank you so much for links! So what sales figures are you suggest after all (with box sets and "Classics Queen")?

Well, it´s very difficult to know, but I guess the following numbers (which are only estimations):

Greatest hits 2: 17 M

Classic Queen: 4 M

Platinium colecction: 1,5 M (I´m not sure)

Box set Greatest hits 1 and 2: 1 M

Total: 23 M :o

But anyway, I think that Platinium collection and Box set Greatest hits 1 and 2 shouldn´t be counted. :D

But what about first part of "Greatest Hits"? And box sets also should be counted because they are repackaged versions of "Greatest Hits" albums. In 2 million "GH I&II" box sets there are 1 million copies of "GH" and 1 million copies of "GH II" and in 4,5 million "The Platinum Collection" box sets there are 1,5 million copies of "GH", 1,5 million copies of "GH II" and 1,5 million of "GH III".

Well, about Greatest hits, it´s claimed to be at 20 millions copies (including original version from 1981, and re-realise for USA and Canada in 1992). But I´m not sure, it can be, but there are no proof at all. But it´s the same for "Thriller", "Bad", "Dangerous", "The dark side of the moon", "The joshua tree" and a lot more.

But about Greatest hits Queen I would say that it´s about that number.

Seems like no "serious" people like to join into this discussion, all conversations are "fake" and "ridiculous" and "non-sense".
And I can see only 2 people arguing each other and exchanging false data.

well spotted Nelson. And where does this list come from? I'm very sceptical about Global lists as they seem to be figures plucked out of the air and are NEVER broken down by country.

It's better to get stats from a few countries that cann be verified than claiming something is global.

Hello,
As regards Queen, I have seen Queen Fans, (at times), claiming that both, 'Greatest Hits', & 'Greatest Hits II', sold 25 Million each, Globally.

This is an error. A lot of it is caused by the Queen Section in the Guinness Book, ('British Hit Single & Albums'), which says that Queen have sold 25 Million of 2 Greatest Hits Albums.

It actually means that they sold a combined 25 Million of the 2 - with the first one being the Bigger Seller. It does not mean that they sold 50 Million between them.

However, (to be fair), Queen are the only Act to have sold over 2 Million each, (UK), of 2 entirely different, 'Greatest Hits' Albums - their 1 & 2 Collections. (1981 & 1991).

I believe that ABBA have also sold over 2 Million, of 2 such UK Albums, 'Greatest Hits', (1976), and 'Gold', (1992), but, the difference is that the 2 ABBA Albums have 4 Tracks that are the same on each - 'Waterloo', 'SOS', 'Mamma Mia', & 'Fernando'. The 2 Queen Albums have 17 Tracks on each - all totally different Hits.....
