"Small Town Southern Man" is number one on Billboard's Hot Country Singles chart this week.
It's his 23rd BB country chart topper and his first since "Remember When" in 2004.

Yahoo.com:

But that's only half the story of Carey's dream week. She also becomes only the third artist--and the first woman--to top the 50 million mark in album sales, as measured by Nielsen/SoundScan. As of this week, she has sold 50,004,000 albums since the scanning service set up shop in May 1991. She trails Garth Brooks, who has sold 67,774,000 albums since that date, and the Beatles, whose tally in this period stands at 56,110,000.

Carey will not be the only 50-million selling woman for long. Celine Dion's career total stands at 49,951,000, which puts in her fourth place overall. Dion will top the 50 million mark in three or four weeks. Of course, by then Carey will have added significantly to her total with her new studio album, E=MC2, which is due on April 15.

Metallica is in fifth place on Nielsen/SoundScan's list of top-selling album artists, with cumulative sales of 48,867,000. They'll hit the 50 million mark around the summer of 2009. The rest of the top 10 artists in Nielsen/SoundScan history are, in order: George Strait (39,403,000), Tim McGraw (36,657,000), Alan Jackson (35,654,000), Pink Floyd (34,665,000) and Shania Twain (33,591,000).

I want to share this:

Alan Jackson Hits 50-Million Album Milestone

Alan Jackson just scored the 33rd #1 single of his career with “Good Time,” the title track to his 17th album, and he achieves another incredible career landmark with news that he has now crossed the 50-million album sales milestone.

A native of small-town Newnan, GA, Jackson was the first artist signed to the fledgling Arista Nashville record label in 1989, and with the release the following year of his debut album, Here in the Real World, his songs immediately connected with fans – leading to four #1 singles from that record alone.

Over the course of 16 Gold, Platinum, and Multi-Platinum albums leading up to the release this past March of Good Time, Jackson has become one of country music’s most respected and honored artists.

Sony BMG Nashville Chairman Joe Galante praised, “It’s a short drive from Georgia to Tennessee, but it’s a long way to 50 million albums sold! Alan’s songs and shows have propelled him to this incredible level of success. He has never lost touch with the fans, and they’ve shown their appreciation year after year with #1 singles and Platinum sales.”

With more than 100 major industry awards to his credit, Jackson is a three-time Country Music Association Entertainer of the Year and the most-nominated artist in CMA history. A prolific songwriter, Jackson penned 23 of his 33 #1 singles, including his GRAMMY-winning Best Country Song, “Where Were You (When the World Stopped Turning).”
