Now THIS is a classic.
There are so many cover versions of this song.
It's just timeless.

A great song. Definitely one of the best songs of the disco era. 8-)

Yeah, I know, I'm voting this out in the Billboard Hot 100 50th anniversary survivor, but that just shows how strong the remaining songs are!

For a French like me, this song is full of great souvenirs in 1998 ! :D

I agree but I'm SO sick of hearing it though. Yes, it was fun and nice ten years ago but this song has been so overplayed that I cannot stand listening to it anymore.

I like it, but the song has become such a cliche. I Am What I Am is just as good, if not even a better gay anthem from Gloria Gaynor's career.

Yeah, but I Am What I Am is more relevant to Shirley Bassey IMO. This is Gloria's anthem! 8-)

Vanacoring said 1998 because this song was used just after France won the FIFA world cup.

She has been declining (rather rudely) to comment when asked how she feels about the fact that she's so popular among gays.
She's also a good christian.

true, I guess it depends on which country you live in. Sadly, Shirley is seen as nothing more than a lady who sang some Bond themes in the US, while Gloria's IAWIA is generally regarded as a gay dance classic here. Shirley's version is sadly unknown here.

I'm sure this song was quite a credible disco track when it came out, but sadly it's nothing more than a novelty record now.

I agree, the song has been so overexposed.

Sadly, Gloria had some great disco tracks besides this. Substitute (the original A-side), Honeybee, Never Can Say Goodbye (widely regarded as the very first crossover disco single in 1974), Let Me Know (I Have A Right), etc... but no matter what, I Will Survive totally towers over the rest of her catalog and people think of her as a one trick pony.

I love the b-side as well, Reach Out I'll Be There. She's also credited as the first act to release a disco album ever, according to Wikipedia.

Thank god time and the pop culture was more merciful on "Never Can Say Goodbye", Gaynor's best song by miles.

Has anyone heard PCD's new Hush Hush remix on DD 2.0? It transforms into a I Will Survive cover.
