Yes, they were made public. That's why you can find them even in wikipedia

yes, i hate that so much! RIAA is anything but most labels and music distributors. They know the figures so they better conduct an obligatory rule to certify the album correctly just in time   they can slash the price of certifying. I know it sounds silly and as a fairy-tale   8-)
what a bummer labels don't want to compete with each other, i mean fight ala "we got more certified albums than you, drop dead as*hole, ha-ha"

so why the hell can't they cancel the rule for paying for certification (money flow from them to them)? or, is it the main source of RIAA's income? I guess they can raise a common fund to bankroll their activities....

Its expensive to carry out this audit. It can cost thousands of dollars per certification

so they better ask (obligatorily) an artist to co-finance it as well, of course this is also "fairy-tale"   Quite startling that the audit is so costly, i thought it's up to 1k USD and not more. But to be honest, from the logic it seems to rather be more honest to certify albums with more-certifications that earned more money than just Gold album. But of course certifying is there from more reasons

I phrased that wrong - what I meant to say was that the cost can be thousands for the lifetime of an album, if you continue to apply for updates time after time. And now, that costing is just a disposable income to the labels.

The actual cost of applying for a cert is $350 per application for member companies of the RIAA and $450 for non-members

Yes, it is! Remember, this was during the heyday of big sales in 1999! It must have increased 30K in digital sales over the years as I remember it was about 640K for a long time!

Spears isn't even the only evergreen diva in the current Pop Songs top five. Fellow former Disney Mouseketeer Christina Aguilera rises 6-3 as guest vocalist on Maroon 5's "Moves Like Jagger" (which topped the Hot 100 two weeks ago).

Should "Jagger" strut to the Pop Songs summit, Aguilera would likewise boast a No. 1 span of more than 12 years; she first inhabited the chart's penthouse with "Genie in a Bottle" the week of Sept. 11, 1999.

I'd say easily eligible for diamond certification. Hard sales between KNOWN Soundscan sales and BMG are around 9.2 million. Considering other music clubs and street sales NOT accounted for by Soundscan, I think it is certain 10 million or so copies are sold/shipped in the US. I wish they'd recertify it.
I was waiting for Bey to drop so she could show that T&A arent the only ones smashing album SALES!!!
