Grybop's Best of 2011 -#01

Just like last time (and every year actually), my year-end chart contains songs that may have not been released as singles; in fact some of them may have not been released within the year at all.
It merely represents the songs I loved the most during the previous 12 months and started to like within that period, or shortly before.

Stay tuned for the most random chart ever. And watch my taste go down the drain.

Looking forward to this one too. Your chart's one of the more interesting ones on here IMO - even if I don't know many/any of the songs on there, I try to check them out anyway. Who knows, there might be a gem in there! (Like discovering Arcade Fire's The Suburbs last year.)

I bet I know who the Australia tag is for. Uh-oh @ the fun-fun-fun tag...I think I know who that one's for too. Ugh.
Let's embrace the point of no return.

I liked that Jamiroquai one, though it seems like ages ago that I first heard it! Quite like Shakira too!

Links to songs hidden in pictures.

20 Tonus Peregrinus - [Pérotin's] Beata Viscera

Image

Pérotin flourished at the turn of the 13th century composing the first polyphonic works in the history of music. This one though, is meant to be interpreted by a single voice. I was introduced to his beautiful music, when I heard it in a little-known nauseating 70s artsy film.
Tonus Peregrinus is a famous english choir and their version of Beata Viscera is my favourite.

19 Rihanna feat. Calvin Harris - We found love

Image

I live in Greece and this year I started a relationship, so what better lyric to relate to than "We found love in a hopeless place"?
Possibly my fave music video of the year as well.

Rihanna and Calvin Harris inside the top 20, fabulous!

I agree with you - one of the best videos of the year!

26 Jamiroquai – White knuckle ride
25 Lykke Li - I follow rivers (The Magician remix)
24 Shakira feat. Pitbull - Rabiosa

Three great songs here! 'Rabiosa' is just so damn catchy :D

Big woo for 'We Found Love'!

'We Found Love' is great - and LOL at you calling Greece 'a hopeless place' (sadly that's true though)

That Keep Shelly in Athens sounds great... (Keep Shelly in Australia more like!)

'Beata Viscera' is the most random entry in any YE chart I've read - try and beat your record. I quite like it, I seem to be fascinated by these old 'church' tunes!

Oh and your avatar - WHO??

Is it Australia really then? I've been searching for clues as to where that beautiful video was shot and couldn't find any - apart that it was defintely not Athens!
