Released in 1994, it was the follow-up to Erotica...the first album by Madonna that underperformed.

Unfortunatly this one didn't manage to be a best seller...but for me, it's another underrated album from her!

I think she managed to re-invent herself once again...and what i like about this album is her voice, and how diverse it is. And better then all of this...it's her album that ends the best way possible! Love Tried To Welcome Me/Sanctuary/Bedtime Story/Take A Bow...can't get any better then this! :o

1. Survival
2. Secret
3. I'd Rather Be Your Lover
4. Don't Stop
5. Inside Of Me
6. Human Nature
7. Forbidden Love
8. Love Tried o Welcome Me
9. Sanctuary
10. Bedtime Story
11. Take A Bow

What are your favourite songs? Videos? Singles? Worst songs?

Let's show our love for Bedtime Stories now 8-)

The only 2 songs i don't really care: I'd Rather Be Your Lover and Don't Stop. The first time i heard this album and listened to these 2 bad songs in a row i was shocked at how much better it got after these 2!

A pretty great album on the whole, but the real magic doesn't start until track #5:

Inside Of Me
Human Nature
Forbidden Love
Love Tried To Welcome Me
Sanctuary
Bedtime Stories

Six truly outstanding songs, all in a row! And, apart from Human Nature, this section of the album is far more sensual than anything on "Erotica" was. (Although I'd argue that Erotica wasn't even trying to be sexy!)

The title track is one of her all-time greatest songs in my opinion, plus, the transition into it from Sanctuary is just: :o

Take A Bow is nice, but why it's her most(?) successful song on the BBH100 is beyond me.

^ I pretty second what Sambo said above.

Bedtime Story is just superb. I was in the sky knowing it become a single. Its video is for me the best of the whole era.

Take A Bow, is the worst song of the album, it's just mehhh :-?

Fantastic album! As I've said before I listen to it from beginning to end, however I often skip Take A Bow.

My favourites at the moment are Secret, Survival, Inside Of Me, Sanctuary and Bedtime Story (as usual).

Least favourites are Don't Stop and Take a Bow.

All in all this is IMO a consistent, solid album, very easy to listen. It flows perfectly.

"Survival" will always be a song that can totally describe Madonna as a person. Not Material Girl or Like a Virgin but Survival.

I'll never a an angel
I'll never be a saint it's true
I'm too busy surviving
Whether it's heaven or hell
I'm gonna be living to tell
I'm ready to be loved and love the way I should
Life's about, life's about to get good

Madonna's best album, hands down! It was always between "True Blue" and this one, but I connected more with BS over they years. That said, yeah, this is very underrated album.
The album flows great from the opening song "Survival" to the magnificent "Take A Bow".
The only song I was struggling to get into was "I'd Rather Be Your Lover", but I've learned to love that one too :D
Anyways, BS may not be her commercial or artistic peak by public and critics, but for me, this is her most honest album and therefore I find it my favorite 8-)
Not to mention her look and videos were outstanding in this era :D

My top 5

Secret
Human Nature
Sanctuary
Bedtime Story
Survival

p.s. I also like leftovers such as "Your Honesty", "Freedom" and "Let Down Your Guard"

This is actually my fave Madonna album. "Human Nature" is phenomenal! :D
Aretha Franklin was an angel. Her voice helped lift our spirits and at times gave us the soundtrack to cope with our pain.

One of her worst albums IMO. The first four tracks are nice (particularly Secret and I'd Rather Be Your Lover) but the rest of the album is such a borefest (bar perhaps Take A Bow).

A big step backwards after Erotica.

That's my least favourite Madonna album. Wait, I never really really listened to this and Hard Candy yet I am sure my statement is right.

This is so under -rated!
I absolutely love "Bedtime Stories" and even though we all know she was coming out of all that "in-your-face-sexual-attitude" that was Erotica and needed a more low profile album, she managed to deliver a great piece of art with this one!
The standout for me is "Love Tried To Welcome Me" . The melody, the lyrics , the mood of this song is beyond words can describe !
All in all it´s a GREAT ,AWESOME album that deserved a better fortune!
Denise , we ( Madonna Fans ) will miss you A LOT !

Stay away from Hard Candy  but give Bedtime Stories a chance if you've listened to other Madonna albums.

Bedtime Stories is nothing like Hard Candy, although both albums tend to urban sound

Thanks for starting this thread, Tiago! :D

Fantastic album! In my Madonna top three, alongside Ray of Light and Erotica. All timeless albums for me!

I do feel that this record is the quietest of Madonna's career which is a shame because the music on this album -- which I understand was entirely the focus at the time of its release -- is superb.

Beautiful transition after Erotica; M pulled off the signature R&B sound so well here! Survival, Secret, Inside of Me, Human Nature and the final four tracks are all my favourites - so almost the entire album! I absolutely adore Your Honesty too - such a shame this track wasn't included on the album.

As Tiago stated, I love the diverse sounds in this album. The music videos were great too! :D Absolutely brilliant, yet criminally underrated era!

IMO there are no bad songs on "Bedtime Stories"!
The best thing on this album is that even though she had a dramatic image and attitude change she re-affirmed that she was not sorry for anything she did before!
"Human Nature" and its bitter/acid lyrics are so great!
Especially when ironically she says:"Oops, I didn't know I couldn't talk about sex(I musta been crazy)" and "Oops, I didn't know I couldn't speak my mind (What was I thinking?)"

Two of my favorite Madonna songs.

The Bedtime Stories Orbital remix is fabulous!

Then again, Orbital is my favorite band so anything they touch is ear candy.
Reminiscing about life with smokey eyes.

It's a mood album for sure and when you're in the mood it really hits the spot.

Choice tracks:

"Love Tried to Welcome Me"
"Take a Bow"
"Inside of Me"
"Secret"

I've been addicted to this album for months now and it is so underrated. The lyrics are perfection and although she wanted to lighten her image at the time.. she didn't really compromise her artistic integrity to put it in Madge terms. It's like art RnB.. so many amazing songs and her voice is angelic in this record. I agree that the last couple of tracks all sum up to am epic ending. It has her best ballads IMO.. Love Tried To Welcome Me, Inside of Me, Sanctuary, Take a Bow... she might have gone more radio friendly but ti still managed to have a Bedtime Story, a human Nature, and a Sanctuary, yourfavescouldnever tbh LOL. i recently bought the CD .. even the worst song is good (Don't Stop)

My faves:

Sanctuary
Inside of Me
Love Tried to Welcome Me
Forbidden Love
Bedtime Story

(also Take a Bow, Secret, Survival, Human Nature)

Tbh this whole album LOL.. it's a masterpiece
God Bless You... Akipaul> My Week Chart Potterhead.
