Can Australian pop avoid being highly suspect? If we're talking Natalie Imbruglia, then the answer is a big YES. "That Day" will not sound like a cheese-flavoured number twelve months later, it won't make you feel embarrassed and won't force you to hide the CD before your friends come over. Instead it will keep surprising you with its crispy sound, and you'll be glad you own a record that made it thanks to itself, not some half-dresses worn by the singer, because it's simply a damn good piece of music.
After a three year gap, the pint-sized Aussie singer/songwriter finally returns to begin promotion for her second album, "White Lilies Island". The first single from that album is "That Day"; quite different to a lot of guitar driven music of the moment due to its fast and almost spoken lyrics. The actress and singer puts on an emotional vocal performance, and with a difficult song to pull off, she succeeds. A welcome return!
