Mariah Carey - Never Too Far / Don't Stop (Funkin' 4 Jamaica)Despite having performed respectably, The "Glitter" soundtrack, has not really lived up to Virgin's multi-million dollar investment. When Mariah returns to the studio she will have to do some serious thinking. As an album filler, "Never Too Far" is passable, but as a standout single, it cannot be compared to the great Mariah ballads of old. On the other hand "Don't Stop" is a great R&B rap song, though Mariah's vocals are drowned out by Mystikal's raps. "Never Too Far" gets two stars, but four for "Don't Stop".

"Never Too Far" is an epic ballad of the kind Mariah hasn't released since "Open Arms". Taken from her 1980s-based movie, it would probably have been a huge hit during the 1980s. Now, however, it might not stand out; it's nice, but not exactly distinctive. The second song, "Don't Stop", is also inspired by the same era, and sounds a little like Janet Jackson's "All For You", but not as strong. Four stars for the ballad, two for "Don't Stop".
