US hip-hop newcomer Kendrick Lamar has been impressing critics and music lovers alike with his debut album "good kid, m.A.A.d city" and it's not hard to see why when you listen to this first UK single from that album.
Upon first listen, you might dismiss this as yet another song about drinking and getting drunk; but in actual fact, the lyrics belie a deeper, more complex message concerning alcohol and peer pressure. The dark and eerie sound of the backing track aids and enhances the song, with Kendrick's rapid-fire raps in the 2nd verse a definite highlight.
For someone like myself who isn't a big urban music fan, this was (surprisingly) one of my favourite tracks of 2012 and I'll be curious to see how it crosses over on the other side of the Atlantic in 2013. Drank.
