Rihanna - DiamondsThe first single from Rihanna's 'Unapologetic' record, the seventh album from the international superstar, is mid-tempo pop ballad "Diamonds". Co-penned by Sia, "Diamonds" blends inspirational and love themes brought to life by a reserved, understated - by Rihanna's standards anyway - production. Rihanna's vocals just soar here; this is really the finest vocal form we've seen her in yet, and the lyrics, though simple on the surface, definitely elicit some powerful thoughts, particularly the line "I choose to be happy", where Rihanna alludes that a happy state of mind is an option, a pleasure we opt to indulge ourselves in.

Somehow Rihanna has managed to bring to life a grand masterpiece, an odd enough one without lavish production, but it packs just as much, if not more, of a punch with a hook that ingrains itself in the minds of its listeners, never losing an ounce of magic with each play. A truly exceptional song from a truly talented young woman, expect this to shine blindingly bright on the charts as well.
