Released: 22nd September 2016.
The new single from The Weeknd's third studio album, of the same name, "Starboy" is a clear departure from his previous work on 'Beauty Behind the Madness' (2015), but in no way inferior to his former material. It took the singer one year to create a new, 18-track album.
It may take the casual listener two or three spins to get used to it, since The Weeknd is definitely a new person innovating himself (check the video) at every corner. Heavy synthesizers and drums are the main instrumentation on this new single produced by Daft Punk, Cirkut and Doc McKinney (who has worked with the singer on his mixtapes). Lyrically, the song addresses celebrity lifestyle and how it can affect any entertainer, with some metaphors regarding cocaine.
If any doubts remain after listening to "Starboy", perhaps we should wait for the album. It will be nothing but a good Black Friday when it's released.
