Think of a surreal situation, write some lyrics about it, set them to a hybrid of jazz and electronica, and let a 12-year-old boy picked up off the streets do the vocals. This must have been the recipe for "Manila", one of this year's weirdest singles, both lyrically and musically. It sounds original, if nothing else, but its commercial potential is - unfortunately - very limited. But who cares? Quality music rarely does well in the charts anyway.
