Akon - Locked UpIf you're anything like me, you'll have been incredibly disappointed with the world of hip-hop in the past year. Either it's all about sex or it's just incredibly dull. Have no fear, there's still a glimmer of hope in hip-hop, and it comes courtesy of this track. Also featuring hot UK rap talent Taz, this soulful hip-hop track about time spent in prison has a really good beat, talks about serious issues and has a clear tune - something you can't say about much hip-hop music at the moment at all.

Senegal-born, New Jersey raised singer Akon's debut single "Locked Up" is an incredibly personal, undeniably haunting offering. Taken from the album "Trouble", and featuring a guest rap from Styles of The Lox, "Locked Up" details Akon's prison sentence. Not exactly a new theme for cats in the hip-hop game, but Akon's account is far greater than other 'jail' songs, both vocally, lyrically and in its production. THE Urban single of the week.
