One of the most respected rock bands are back with an album full of typical REM sounds. Is it original enough to keep your attention, though?
"The Lifting" opens the album in an inoffensive, pleasant way. There's plenty going on behind the vocals. The following track keeps the same atmosphere, which is not a bad thing.
The single, "Imitation Of Life," stands out big time, as the most dynamic tune on the album, however it's far from being a classic.
There is some boredom, too. "Chorus And The Ring" is a prime example. The downside of the album is that it somewhat melts into one long song with few exceptions.
