Released: 4th July 2005.
Following very clearly in Jay-Z's footprints as the master of all things hip-hop, Kanye West is back, and he's done something typical of his master - a truly unusual sample. Shirley Bassey doesn't actually get a co-credit on this Bond theme sampling song which is a shame, but Kanye's lyrical flow in between is on top form. If he keeps on pulling out tracks like this, he'll go a long way. Expect this one very safely in the Top 10.
Kanye West got his name noticed last year by providing some of the most inspired production work backed with his debut album "The College Dropout". After a string of successful singles and collaborations, a new album should be an exciting prospect. Unfortunately his chosen comeback single is a less than inspiring rip off of Shirley Bassey's "Diamonds Are Forever", which for me just doesn't quite work. It's a real shame because this sounds like something Jay-Z might try, but is nowhere near as good.
