Vanessa Brown is the latest new UK urban talent, but can she follow her predecessors in showing that the UK can do it better than the USA? Well the answer in unquestionably yes. She has a truly fantastic voice - rather like a more mature Joss Stone with greater range and power - and the song shows it off brilliantly. Lyrically it might not be the most fascinating of the year, but musically this song is absolutely flawless and deserves to be a massive hit.

Vanessa Brown, aged just 21, releases her debut soul-tastic single "Whipped". The verses slide along nicely into a very big chorus that is undoubtedly the best part of the song. She shows not only potential with this song, but also her individuality, by bringing to the table a funked up kind of soul that's hard to forget. Already rated highly by critics, Vanessa looks set to have huge success in the coming year and in the charts too. Amazing stuff.
