It's been a while, but Ricky Martin is back with a forthcoming new album, "Life". Its first single is "I Don't Care", for which he's called upon professional guest rapper Fat Joe, plus relative newcomer Amerie, who delivers a smooth bridge vocal. However, unlike many collaborations where the guest takes the limelight from the main artist, Ricky's vocals are most prominent and, even without its guest artists, "I Don't Care" would arguably be one of his catchiest singles ever. A step away from the usual Latin-flavoured tracks or ballads, and a bit more towards R&B. Great track.
I liked Ricky Martin in his "Livin' La Vida Loca" days, but his new track has a suitably more modern sound, and is at the same time believable as his kind of song. He's enlisted the help of Amerie and Fat Joe, which is good, as neither overshadow him, but they add a definite spark. With its toe-tapping rhythm and textbook Latino guitar sample, I think "I Don't Care" will have Ricky Martin safely back in the charts.
