After the extraordinary success of her debut "Call Off The Search", Radio 2's favourite songbird returns with her second effort. Does Melua, like many artists before her, falls victim of the sophomore album curse?
"Nine Million Bicycles" does not disappoint, with its quirky lyrics and original melody. Unfortunately, the rest of the album fails to match up.
The lyrics are an exerise of a graphomaniac, sounding silly for the sake of being silly, rather than delivering a message in a thoughtful way.
Song such as "Spider's Web" and "Just Like Heaven" scream for the mute button. The whole affair is so bland, you will want to throw the album in the bin before you've even got halfway through it.
"Piece By Piece" painfully lacks purpose and meaning, and is a terrible disappointment after such a good start.
