I was at the filming of the PBS "Great Performances" special on August 21st, which is the first time that anyone has gotten to hear Jackie sing the songs from the "Awakening" album. In a nutshell: gorgeous. The cute little girl from AGT is growing into a lovely young woman and her voice is maturing along with the physical growth now that she is a teenager. I had heard Jackie live a year and a half ago in a Baltimore concert and then heard her again twice this month, and let me tell you, the vocal difference was immediately apparent. IMO this album is going to make a lot of Jackie's current fans very happy and it is also undoubtedly going to attract many new fans. My guess is that this album may open modestly but then really take off as more and more people have an opportunity to hear the tracks on it. "Awakening" debuts on September 23rd but the PBS special won't be aired until December (perfect timing to capture holiday-season sales). This is one to watch.....

Matt, I'm not sure this album is going to be released in many stores in the UK.

Have been in HMV this morning and asked about it, not on their release data for that week and they don't know anything about the release. Gaga, Barbra and Lucy Kay are all listed on their system for this month.

    HITS:

    http://www.hitsdailydouble.com/news/rumormill.cgi

YOUR NEW RELEASES: Kenny Chesney holds a slight edge for next week’s #1, but the Tony Bennett/Lady Gaga collaboration is within striking distance. Here are this week’s key debuts:

Kenny Chesney (Blue Chair/Columbia Nashville) 125-135k
Tony Bennett & Lady Gaga (Interscope) 115-125k
    Alt-J (Atlantic) 55-65k
    Pentatonix (RCA) 40-50k
5 Seconds of Summer “Amnesia” EP (Capitol) 35-45k
    Joe Bonamassa (J&R) 24-27k
    Jackie Evancho (Sony Masterworks) 21-24k
    Leonard Cohen (Columbia) 19-22k
    Jennifer Hudson (RCA) 19-22k
    Lenny Kravitz (Roxie) 17-20k
    John Mellencamp (Republic) 12-15k

In a related story, if Tony Bennett takes #1 right after Barbra Streisand, my mom will be seriously kvelling. (9/24a)

Billboard 200 Chart Moves: Jackie Evancho Arrives With 'Awakening'

By Keith Caulfield | October 03, 2014 10:09 PM EDT

    – Jackie Evancho, Awakening - No. 17 – 14-year-old vocalist Jackie Evancho debuts at No. 17 with Awakening, and also earns her fifth No. 1 on Classical Crossover Albums with the new release. Thus, she manages the notable feat of having No. 1s as both a tween and a teenager.

Evancho notched her first of five No. 1 albums when she was only 10-years old, back when O Holy Night opened at No. 1 on the Dec. 4, 2010 Classical Crossover chart. (Evancho also claimed a pair of No. 1s when she was 11, in 2011, and another when she was 12, in 2012.)

Other artists with No. 1s both as a tween and teen (and sometimes beyond) include Hanson’s Zac Hanson, who claimed various chart toppers at 11, 12, 13, 18 and 21.

Also on that list, Michael Jackson, as part of Jackson 5, The Jacksons and a solo artist. Jackson tallied his first No. 1, with his brothers in Jackson 5, on Jan. 10, 1970. That week, “I Want You Back” hit No. 1 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, when Jackson was 11 years old. Jackson would later tally many leaders as a teenager (and beyond), both with and without his siblings.
