what hiphop takeover? wasn't that in 80/90s, all those rappers?

i think the music is getting better and better and i actually find a lot of older music bori ng and uninteresting, so i don't use this term tbh.

Hiphop was big in the 80s and especially 90s but Wayne does have a point, although it started a little earlier in the US. From 2002-2005, hip hop dominated radio and the charts the way disco did in the late 70s. It was present before and has been since then but for 4-5 years there, it was the alpha and omega in mainstream music, at least in the US, I don't think it was quite as big in the UK.
I literally couldn't stand hearing a 50Cent song every five minutes

I hated the hip hop takeover, but in a sense, at least at that pointn it felt like at least there was a direction things were going, whereas now it's so stagnant

Well, a few years ago we had the EDM trend, that's some kind of direction. Not really a trend up to hip hop during the mid 00s or EDM during the early 10s, but some people tried out fusioning some folk sounds with their music and there's this kind of Fade Out Lines/Prayer in C/Jubel/Changes type of sound trend (gosh, it seems like each of those songs are guaranteed hits in Europe and get overplayed to the core :x ). And then there was a moment when some songs fancied funk sounds a bit.

Back in the day for me is music up to 2003 as music up to that time has such a nostalgic feeling for me. Music started sounding different and less exciting after this

Tough to say but imo, "back in the day" defines anything over 20 years old

Worst era for music in my opinion, couldn't wait for the rap/hip hop for the mid 2000s to end!!! Girls Aloud got me through those years!
