I haven't got all XFM's charts but I've got most of their sales/airplay charts from 1997 to 2000, and their "Music Response" charts from 2002-2006 (based on listeners' votes).
XFM launched on 1st September 1997 but they didn't broadcast a chart on their first Saturday, which was 6th September. So for this week only, this is my own estimate of their most-played records that week:

    1. Super Furry Animals - Play It Cool
    2. Pierre Henry - Psyche Rock
    3. Blur - MOR
    4. Radiohead - Karma Police
    5. Primal Scream - Burning Wheel
    6. The Verve - The Drugs Don't Work (EP)
    7. Stereolab - Miss Modular
    8. Strangelove - Freak
    9. Dues - Little Arithmetics
    10. Smashmouth - Walking In The Sun
    11. Edwyn Collins - Adidas World
    12. Magic Drive - On The Truth
    13. Sundays - Summertime
    14. Feeder - High
    15. Mansun - Closed For Business
    16. Rude Club - Locust
    17. Bedlam A Go Go - title not known
    18. Fountains Of Wayne - Barbara H
    19. Pixies - Debaser
    20. Cornershop - Sleep On The Left Side
    21. Echo And The Bunnymen - I Want To Be There
    22. Skinny - Failure
    23. You Am I - Mr Milk
    24. Beck - Jackass
    25. Eels - Your Lucky Day In Hell
    26. Group Dogdrill - Lovely Skin
    27. Pigeonhead - Battle Flag
    28. Seahorses - Love Me And Leave Me
    29. Charlatans - Indina Rope Man
    30. Marilyn Manson - Tourniquet

The first chart they broadcast was on Saturday 13th September. At first this was on from 13:30 to 15:30 (with Breakers from 13:00) but after Christmas this was altered to 13:00-15:00, with the 'Balls On Saturday' football and music programme starting at the more logical time of 15:00, when the matches kicked off. I couldn't hear the chart every week as I was at football myself, often outside London, but I soon found that you could pick up a copy from XFM's HQ at 97 Charlotte Street (as well as the playlist). Music Week also began publishing the chart.

I can't remember the name of the presenter, but he was Irish and he may have been called McCluskey.

XFM CHART - 13th SEPTEMBER 1997 - Based on sales and XFM airplay.
Records didn't have to be played on XFM to qualify for the chart - an example being Chumbuwumba, which I never heard on the station except in the chart show.
    1. The Verve - The Drugs Don't Work
    2. Portishead - All Mine
    3. Finlay Quaye - Even After All
    4. Chumbuwumba - Tubthumping
    5. Sundays - Summertime
    6. Chemical Brothers - Electrobags
    7. Roni Size / Reprazent - Heroes
    8. Marilyn Manson - Tourniquet
    9. KRS1 - A Friend
    10. Stereolab - Miss Modular
    11. Cast - Lived The Dream
    12. Ocean Colour Scene - Traveller's Tune
    13. Super Furry Animals - Play It Cool
    14. Beck - Jackass
    15. Eels - Your Lucky Day In Hell
    16. Dubstar - Cathedral Park
    17. Radiohead - Karma Police
    18. Smashmouth - Walking In The Sun
    19. Blur - Mor

Thanks for the information. I do remember Deus but I can't type properly.

The chart is described as "compiled by CIN from sales data combined with XFM airplay data provided by Media Research Limited". CIN also compiled the official sales chart at that time, so would have used the same sales data for this chart, but I don't know whether they used sales from the whole of the UK for the XFM chart, or just sales for London where XFM was broadcast.

    XFM Top 30 - 20th SEPTEMBER 1997
    1 ( 1 ) The Verve - The Drugs Don't Work
    2 ( 4 ) Chumbawamba - Tubthumping
    3 ( 2 ) Portishead - All Mine

    12 ( - ) Third Eye Blind - Semi-Charmed Life
13 ( - ) Eat Static - Intercepter (I didn't record the title for this track, so it may possibly have been 'Hybrid'; I haven't got exact release dates).
    14 ( 21 ) Feeder - High
    15 ( 24 ) Mono - Slimcea Girl
    16 ( 29 ) Strangelove - Freak
    17 ( 23 ) Warm Jets - Hurricane

    30 ( - ) Radiohead - No Surprises (LP track)

I was at a football match at Southend that day and listened to the last half-hour of the chart through my earphones while watching the game.

Sorry, due to the way I've kept the charts, I've got a problem with incomplete charts. I thought I might have the full Top 30s elsewhere, but I'll have to post what I've got. These are quick and easy to post so I'll get a few more on in the next few days.

    Sorry for the delay.
I'd forgotten that Sundays record, Many of these records I've rarely heard since, but I was really enjoying them at the time, I heard a lot of the station I was at hoem stidying at that time, and I was appreciating how much broader the music selection was, than on Radio One's 'Evening Session'.

    18 ( 11 ) The Jam - Who Is The Five O'Clock Hero
At the same moment (11th october 1997) the Bitterest pill re-enter the official charts at # 30.
    How Xfm pick this one?

New Tracks Being Played By XFM:
Three Colours Red - This Is My Hollywood
    Not exactly new

I've checked, and It seems there were vinyl, CD and cassette versions of the 'Bitterest Pill' single but none of them had '5 o'clock hero' on the B-side. I don't think XFM would have been playing an old song regularly, so The Jam's chart entry must have been based on sales. I suspect I may have written down the wrong title. Some other songs, I hadn't written titles against at all and I'm having to look them up now. Things will be easier from 29/11/1997 as I started to pick up XFM's official chart printout.

Fierce Panda releases were often very limited, and usually one-off singles (rather than signing bands to a deal fro several releases ) so that's probably why it re-appeared on Creation.

The next few weeks, I've got very sparse information for. I know I wrote down the original charts on a grid so I'll make a concerted effort this coming weekend to search for that, and if I can't find it, I'll publish the information I've got (including new playlist entries from XFM printouts) then move onto 1998 which I've got on spreadsheets.

Ive found the charts to February 1998 anyway. After that I really should have the official Top 30 printouts for the next six months, but Ive only found the playlists for that period at the moment. Anyway, Ill put up the 18/10/1997 chart tomorrow and carry on from there. I didnt record the titles so I have to look these up or refer to the playlists.
Meanwhile, Ive added the following to the charts already posted:
    No. 17 for 27/09/1997
    No. 14 for 04/10/1997
    No 4 for 11/10/1997.
Breakers for the first two weeks.

    18th OCTOBER 1997
It's difficult to check the titles for some of records making the chart on sales and which weren't being played on XFM. I can't be sure about the Lalo Shiffin and Bloodhound Gang titles.
    1 ( 1 ) Busta Rhymes - Place Your Hands
    2 ( 3 ) Propellerheads / David Arnold - On Her Majesty's Secret Service
    3 ( 5 ) Chumbawamba - Tubthumping

    5 ( - ) Primal Scream - Burning Wheel
    6 ( 6 ) Supergrass - Late In The Day
    7 ( - ) Smashmouth - Walking On The Sun
    8 ( 2 ) Oasis - Do You Know What I Mean
    9 ( 7 ) The Verve - The Drugs Don't Work
    10 ( 4 ) Mansun - Closed For Business
    11 ( - ) 2K - Millenium

The XFM weekday schedule for the launch in September 1997 was:
    07:00 Eric Hodge
10:00 Gary Crowley (still does a three-hour weekly show on BBC Radio London)
13:00 Claire Sturgess (with Ricky Gervais)
    16:00 Paul Anderson
    Evenings (Monday to Thursday)
    19:00 Ian Camfield (who's only just left Radio X in the last couple of weeks}
    21:00 Keith Cameron
    23:00 Stephen Merchant (Phone-In)
00:00 John Kennedy (still with Radio X today)
    03:00 Automatic
The Stephen Merchant phone-in was dropped after only a week and John Kennedy did 23:00-02:30.

    "phenomenon" I meant.
It wasn't getting any airplay on XFM. A bit tuneless as I recall.

Never heard of the band, apparently it's written as Libid?,
i can't find this song nowhere on the internet to listen to,
according to Discogs, it wasn't even a single,
but the singles were 4 other songs from the parent album :-?
