The first three minutes had me SCREAMING
Unfortunately, the special brought nothing to the story, and was actually quite confusing.
    BUT it was nice.

It was a nice little so-journ away from Lakewood and definitely gave some nice little nods to some other horror series ("I Still Know What You Did Last Summer", "Urban Legend", "Friday the 13th", "And then there were None") but I just wish the story was a little stronger and actually had ties to the core storyline aside from the first 3 minutes or so (nice twist) and the final seconds of the episode.
I don't like Audrey's new girlfriend at all so I would've been fine with them adding her to the body count and once again the major cast survived completely unscathed so the sense of danger wasn't really there but it did seem that there was a little more blood and violence in this episode which was more in keeping with the source material of the movies.

Obviously Season 3 will be centered around identifying of the "master killer".
I think that Emma's dad is too obvious and will be our red herring (but then again Kieran wasn't a total mystery either) and the mysterious
"Mr James" is either Brandon's long rumoured brother or an imposter because I still feel THE REAL Brandon James is either dead or lurking somewhere in the background to ultimately sacrifice himself to save Emma.

    Crazy killer theory:
I would love my Maggie theory to be true but it seems less and less likely though it'd be great if Emma's Dad and Brandon's brother were revealed as the killers, Leopold and Loeb style, seeking revenge on Emma's Mother and Lakewood at large for not only Maggie's digressions but also as revenge for Brandon's persecutions and death.

With the shorter season order it seems quite obvious that they're planning on ending things but I for one would LOVE, if there were a fourth season, if the Lakewood survivors went off to college etc and encountered one of the cinematic series characters, either Dewey or Gale, and have Ghostface return and trim the fat (a.k.a kill Emma) and give the show some new life but I think I'm dreaming.

All in all I'm just happy that there's more to come and they will be able to close out the story properly.
Happy endings are just stories that haven't finished yet...

It's gonna be interesting to see where they go with next season! I assume we'll learn what actually happened with Brandon! And if he wasn't the real killer, they'll be revealed.

I t looks like the Lakewood Four and Brandon James might not make the final cut for Season 3 with MTV and Dimension eyeing a new showrunner to reboot the upcoming season...

The upcoming 6-episode third season of MTV’s series Scream will be hitting the reset button. I hear that the network and producing company, Dimension TV, are looking to reboot the show, based on the hit teen movie franchise, with a new storyline and new cast.

The plan is tentative as the project is still searching for a new showrunner who would shape the concept for Season 3, but I hear MTV, which just went through a major regime overhaul, remains committed to the series. While the new showrunner may opt to include references to events and characters from the first two seasons, I hear the idea is to start fresh by reimagening the cult title. MTV and Dimension had no comment.

I hear the cast of the series had been quietly given permission to take other jobs, and star Willa Fitzgerald just booked a series regular role on the Fox pilot Behind Enemy Lines in first position.

Scream was renewed for a third season in October with a 6-episode order, down from the 10- and 13-episode first and second seasons. This is the second showrunner change on the series. Jill Blotevogal and Jaime Paglia served as showrunners on Season 1, with Blotevogel rewriting the original pilot script by Jay Beattie and Dan Dworkin. Michael Gans and Richard Register were brought in as showrunners at the beginning of the second season.
Scream will be seeking a ratings turnaround in Season 3. After a solid series launch, likely boosted by the films’ popularity, the most recent second season drew an average of 377,000 viewers in Live+same day, half of the audience for Season 1.
Harvey and Bob Weinstein executive produce under the Dimension TV production umbrella. Wes Craven, Tony DiSanto, Liz Gateley, Marianne Maddalena and Cathy Konrad also executive produce. Matthew Signer and Keith Levine are producers.
Let's be honest there are worse things that could happen to this show than losing Willa Fitzgerald as its "lead".
What better way to move the show along than to kill her off and take some of the non essential elements of the show with her.
They need someone who is a fan of both the movie and tv stories to come in and reinvigorate the series.
I say keep Noah, Audrey and Brooke but split them up and have them have that air of underlying suspicion that Sidney, Gale and Dewy had with each other in the movies and give us a "who killed Emma Duval" mystery that leads to a bigger story.
As I said before they should throw some money at David Arquette and have him cameo.
Will be very interesting to see how this all pans out.
Happy endings are just stories that haven't finished yet...

I just watched the Halloween special and thought it was terrible, aside from the first and last few minutes!

It'll be a shame if we don't get closure on the whole Brandon James thing, but I'll still obviously watch even if it's another reboot.

They should continue the story with the same cast. I will be watching nonetheless.

Well it's looks like it's Buh Bye Brandon James and G'day to Ghostface as the original movie mask returns in the rebooted Season 3.....

We'll be honest... we missed the original Ghostface from the Scream movies when the show was reimagined as a TV series.
But fear not – or do, if masks aren't really your thing – because we're due to see him return in the show's reboot for season 3.
MTV has announced it is bringing back the original Fun World mask for a new run of characters and stories (via Bloody Disgusting), with production already under way in Atlanta.

We've also been given a description of how the new season is expected to shape up.
"Season three revolves around Deion Elliot, a local star running back whose tragic past comes back to haunt him at the worst time, threatening his hard-earned plans for his future – and the lives of his unlikely group of friends," it reads.
The cast lining up for the season features Scream Queens' Keke Palmer, RJ Cyler from I'm Dying Up Here, 13 Reasons Why's Giorgia Whigham, Jessica Sula of Recovery Road, rappers Tyga and CJ Wallace, and Giullian Yao Gioiello.

The Vampire Diaries and Supernatural's Brett Matthews is the third season's showrunner and executive producer, alongside Queen Latifah, Shakim Conpere and Yaneley Arty for Flavor Unit Entertainment.
Scream's six-episode third season will be broadcast as an event over three nights in March on MTV in the US, although no specific premiere date has been announced yet.
Happy endings are just stories that haven't finished yet...

Rubbish, now we’ll never know what happened with all the Brandon James stuff. We deserved some closure on that (and I’ll miss Noah).

So, two episodes on the 8th, 2 episodes on the 9th and 2 episodes on the 10th.
I hope it will premiere on Netflix right after it aired.

I finished watching the new season and it was disappointing, mediocre at best. I only watched until the end to know who the killer was.
