Saints is my fave album from Paul, so underrated, it's perfect from start to finish! Some other great choices there too.

Well it feels like nobody ever mentions it in general almost as if it's kinda forgotten about.

Graceland on the other hand is the only album people talk about from Paul which is nowhere near as great as Saints, that's only my opinion though of course.

    10. Kraftwerk - The Robots
Ok, so this was receiving the Silver medal until Navi pointed out it didn't belong to 1991... so I decided to leave it in the noms but placed them @ the bottom. Great track.

    9. Bananarama - Preacher Man
A good song but a little weak when comparing to the rest

    8. Enigma - Sadeness (Part I)
    7. Pet Shop Boys - Being Boring
    6. Primal Scream - Don't Fight It, Feel It

Three great dance tracks, Enigma was really popular bacjçk then.

    5. Crystal Waters - Gypsy Woman
    4. Black Box - Strike It Up

Mega hits, I can remember being in a disco with them playing.

    3. Londonbeat - I've Been Thinking About You
What a song!!!! Unimportant fact: When I bought Music Box by Mariah I was on a trip to LA with my family, no CD player with me for a month, so I would just read the lyrics and song names trying to imagine how would they sound... and I thought I've been thinking about you, from that album, would sound like this one.

    2. C+C Music Factory - Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)
    Almost gold medal here!!! Great.

    1. Massive Attack - Unfinished Sympathy
I had no doubt since the first second that Massive were taking this one home.

    6. Crystal Waters - Surprise
No big surprises in this album, but some cool tracks: Gypsy Woman, Makin Happy and Good Lovin

    5. LFO - Frequencies
Interesting sound. Highlights: LFO, Simon From sidney, Freeze & Tan Ta Ra

    4. Pet Shop Boys - Behaviour
They have better efforts, but this is good anyway, with great tracks such as Being Boring, So Hard and Jealousy

    3. C+C Music Factory - Gonna Make You Sweat
Enough for a bronze medal with this two amazing tracks: Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now) and Just A Touch Of Love (Everyday)

    2. Primal Scream - Screamadelica
Although Don't Fight It, Feel It was only @ #6 in the song filed, the album is strong enough for a silver medal, with good songs such as Movin' On Up, DCome Together and Loaded

    1. Massive Attack - Blue Lines
Amazing album! Safe From Harm, Blue Lines, Be Thankful For What You've Got, Unfinished Sympathy, Lately and Hymn Of The big Wheel are all fantastic.

    Award Facts
First time nomination for all artists except Black Box who repeated this year after Everybody Everybody was included in 1990. They ended up again @ #4.

    10. Alejandro Sanz - Pisando Fuerte
First steps for him in m usic, shy steps but nice.

    9. Twist - El Estudiante
    A classic argentinian pop sound

    8. Patricio Rey y sus Redonditos de Ricota - Un Poco De Amor Francés
Probably, alongside Soda Stereo, a defining argentinan band, probably more "local" than Soda. A fantastic rock sound here.

    7. Ricky Martin - Fuego Contra Fuego
Another debut here of someone that, in the future, will be bigger and better imo. I remember him being all around but very oriented to girls so I didn't pay much attention then. My wife loves him.

    6. Divididos - El 38
Another influential argentinan rock band with a great track.

    5. Juan Luis Guerra - Bachata Rosa
    Juan brought bachata everywhere.

    4. Sergio Dalma - Bailar Pegados
Whoever lives in Argentina will know this. Super cheesy but imposible not to have fond memories to this.

    3. Fabiana Cantilo - Mary Poppins Y El Deshollinador
Amazing song. Fabiana is one of the greatest pop.rock argentinian acts and I was a big fan of this album and track.

    2. Fito Paez - Y Dale Alegría A Mi Corazón
    This song is very touching.

    1. Ricardo Montaner - Déjame Llorar
Controvertial award even for me Fito Paez was a sure winner but this song is sooooooo powerful, the chorus is golden.

    6. Alejandro Sanz - Viviendo Deprisa
Nothing really outstanding besides Pisando Fuerte. But fine.

    5. Ricardo Montaner - En El Último Lugar Del Mundo
Aside from Déjame Llorar, Será was also a big hit and a good memory. The rest just fine.

    4. Patricio Rey y sus Redonditos de Ricota - La Mosca Y La Sopa
Probably deserved better... Un poco de amor francés and Mi perro dinamita are highlights

    3. Ricky Martin - Ricky Martin
Three decisive hits assures the bronze medal for Ricky: Fuego Contra Fuego, Dime Que Me Quieres, El Amor De Mi Vida

    2. Divididos - Acariciando Lo Áspero
El 38 and Qué Tal? are classics here.

    1. Fabiana Cantilo - Algo Mejor
As an album, way superior to all the competition. Highlights: Llego Tarde, Kitty, Mary Poppins Y El Deshollinador, Cosas Que Pasan, Arcos, Mi Enfermedad, Cuatro Brazos Cuatro Piernas, Buscando Siempre (almost all!)

    Award Facts
All nominees were newcomers here. Second year in a row that an argentinian act gets the golden award in the album category. 90s was a good decade for arg pop-rock acts imo.

    10. Scorpions - Wind of Change
    9. EMF - Unbelievable

This two are already classics to me, but comparing thço the rest I cannot place them higher

    8. Ride - Vapour Trail
The good discovery of the year.

    7. Blur - There's No Other Way
    6. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Give It Away
    5. Guns N' Roses - Don't Cry

Hard to see this names so low, but this has been a wonderful year for Alt music- GNR in particular was amazing back then.

    4. Pearl Jam - Alive
Unfortunately there were no space for this in the podium. Amazing song.

    3. Metallica - Enter Sandman
Such a recognizable song. Great song.

    2. Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit
When you see a song like this, that marked a whole generation imo, as a Silver medal means the year is fantastic for this genre.

    1. R.E.M. - Losing My Religion
    Beautiful. Deep. Great lyrics. Eternal.

    6. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Blood Sugar Sex Magik
Breaking The Girl, Give It Away and Under The Bridge are really standout tracks from this album.

    5. Guns N' Roses - Use Your Illusion II
Packed with gems: Civil War, Yesterdays, Knockin' On Heaven's Door, Breakdown, So Fine, You Could Be Mine, Don't Cry.

    4. Pearl Jam - Ten
I feel so bad for leaving Pearl Jam without medals! I think as a whole they are one of the most captivating bands of history. Highlights: Alive, Black, Jeremy, Oceans, Garden and Release

    3. R.E.M. - Out of Time
The best track but not the best album. But great nonetheless: Radio Song, Losing My Religion, Low, Near Wild Heaven, Shiny Happy People, Belong & Half A World Away

    2. Nirvana - Nevermind
Fantastic: Smells Like Teen Spirit, In Bloom, Come As You Are, Lithium, Polly, Stay Away, On A Plain and Something In The Way

    1. Metallica - Metallica ("The Black Album")
In the end I decided to award them because they had a big impact in my life back then, with great clasics such as Enter Sandman, Sad But True, The Unforgiven and Nothing Else Matters

    Award facts
Again, all newcomers this year. But this time each award went to a different band instead of a double-award to the same artist, as last year with Kate Bush.

    2. Nikki D. - Daddy's Little Girl
    1. Cypress Hill - How I Could Just Kill a Man
Ice-T and Cypress Hill were my brothers favs, so I remember hearing them a lot at house. Nikki D sneaked in the middle.

She delivers some great tunes with When In Love, Act Like You Know, Poor Georgie and Take It Off

    10. Color Me Badd - I Wanna Sex You Up
    DEfinetly #10 of this batch

    8. Aaron Neville - Everybody Plays the Fool
    His voice soothe me

Two nice songs, but the top 5 are better

    4. Vanessa L. Williams - Save the Best for Last

Love the melody in both tracks

    3. Luther Vandross - Power of Love/Love Power
    His voice!!! Effortless.

    2. Whitney Houston - All The Man That I Need
A classic! Another effortless voice, loved that about Whitney, she sang beautifully and she always kept a smile and relaxed attitude.

    1. Natalie Cole duet with Nat King Cole - Unforgettable
100% accurate the title of this song. Love some jazz tracks, and this song is like heaven. This was BIG at home back then.

    6. Jodeci - Forever My Lady
Bothing too big, but with great tracks such as Stay, Forever My Lady, U&I and Gotta Love

    5. Boyz II Men - Cooleyhighharmony
A nice debut by them, with some highlights: Uhh Ahh, It's So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday and the better one, End Of The Road

    4. Whitney Houston - I'm Your Baby Tonight
Her poppiest sound, such as this album, is not my fav part from her. Anyway, this album sad good songs in it: I'm Your Baby Tonight, My Name is not Susan, All The Man That I Need, Lover for Life, Miracle, I Belong To You, We Didn't Know (feat. Stevie Wonder) and After We Make Love

    10. Robert Palmer - Mercy Mercy Me (The Ecology)
    9. Rod Stewart - Rhythm of My Heart

I enjoy this pop-rock sound, they have good highlights in their previous discographies.

    8. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers - Learning to Fly
    7. Dire Straits - Calling Elvis

Two great tracks by great bands. Dire straits captivate me with their sound.

    6. Crash Test Dummies - Superman's Song
I really like this american rock bands. Close to country, radio friendly. I think they could have been higher here.

    5. Crowded House - Fall at Your Feet
    Good.

    4. Queen - These Are the Days of Our Lives
Freddy was about to pass away back then, so I almost gave a medal to this for sentimental reasons. I find this very touching. Beautiful song. Great exit, next year they'll get another nom, we'll see what happens...

    3. INXS - Disappear
Taken from 1990's Best Rock Album, INXS released this gem during the 1991 eligibility period. Amazing.

    2. Bryan Adams - (Everything I Do) I Do It for You
This can be as cheesy as you want, but I LOVED this track and Bryan's discography is amazing to my ears. Only reason it s not gold is because another track is just better.

    1. Lenny Kravitz - It Ain't Over 'til It's Over
Hot. A classic. Without a doubt the best rock track of the year.

    6. Crowded House - Woodface
Highlights: Chocolate Cake, Fall at Your Feet, Four Seasons In One Day & Italian Plastic

    5. Queen - Innuendo
A great final album, but not as strong as previous ones. They managed to deliver some classics anyway, with highlights: Innuendo, I Can't Live With You, Don't Try So Hard, These Are the Days of Our Lives and the amazing The Show Must Go On.

    4. Rod Stewart - Vagabond Heart
Pretty good consistent album: Rhythm Of My Heart, Rebel Heart, Broken Arrow, It Takes Two, When A Man's In Love, No Holding Back and Have I Told You Lately

    3. Crash Test Dummies - The Ghosts That Haunt Me
Probably a surprise mention this year. Highlights: Winter Song, Comin' Back Soon (The Bereft Man's Song), Superman's Song, The Country Life, The Ghosts That Haunt Me and At My Funeral

    2. Lenny Kravitz - Mama Said
Great album! Lenny almost got two golden medals, but no... Highlights: Fields Of Joy, Always On The Run, Stand By My Woman, It Ain't Over 'til It's Over, More Than Anything In This World, Stop Draggin' Around, Flowers For Zoe and Butterfly

    1. Bryan Adams - Waking Up the Neighbours
A classic album packed with amazing songs one after the other: Is Your Mama Gonna Miss Ya?, Hey Honey, I'm Packin' You In, Can't Stop This Thing We Started, Thought I'd Died And Gone To Heaven, Do I Have To Say The Words? and (Everything I Do) I Do It for You

    Award Facts
All newcomers except INXS that repeat nomination in the Rock Record category. They now have 1 medal of each type: Gold, Silver and Bronze, being the first artist to achieve this. But in the next post with the pop winners I can predict another act will repeat this feat.

    10. Amy Grant - Baby Baby
    9. Simply Red - Something Got Me Started

Two good representatives of a soft pop that was quite prominent in 1991.

    8. Gloria Estefan - Coming Out Of The Dark
Very touching song, I think this was right after Gloria's accident that almost caused her life.

    7. Cher - The Shoop Shoop Song (It's in His Kiss)
Cher is the perfect fit for this song.

    6. Paul Simon - The Obvious Child
Great track from a great album.

    5. Mariah Carey - Emotions
This was the first album I got from her. I bought it in a local record store just because I liked the name of the artist and thought I would like it. Never before had I heard anything from her! Liked it but at that time I was very into Roxette and Madonna. I would become a fan with Music Box and eventually a lamb with Butterfly.

    4. Roxette - Joyride
This song was my everything back then. God I was a fan! It ended up without a medal rpbably because the other 3 songs are better and because in 1990 they won the big award concerning songs.

    3. Madonna - Justify My Love
It was not until Erotica that Madonna would get my complete attention. By 1991 I was only into her big hits because my brother gave me his True Blue cassette and I bought TIC cassette. But JML was too sexual for my understanding, I was only 11. From a distance, JML is a highlight in her discography.

    2. Seal - Crazy
I am not a big Seal's fan but this song is a classic.

    1. Bonnie Raitt - I Can't Make You Love Me
Surprise win! This song is fantastic.

    6. Simply Red - Stars
A good album with two big standout tracks: Something Got Me Started & Stars

    5. Bonnie Raitt - Luck of the Draw
A more pop-rock nomination here, that's why it ends up so low. Highlights: Something To Talk About, I Can't Make You Love Me and All At Once

    4. Seal - Seal
Quite strong debut: The Beginning, Deep Water, Crazy, Killer, Whirlpool, Future Love Paradise and Wild

    3. Mariah Carey - Emotions
Mariah got silver in 1990 and now bronze. Hihglights: Emotions, And You Don't Remember, Can't Let Go, Make It Happen, If It's Over and Till The End Of Time

    2. Paul Simon - The Rhythm of the Saints
Very good set: The Obvious Child, Proof, Further To Fly, Born At The Right Time and The Rhythm of the Saints

    1. Roxette - Joyride
A fantastic pop album! Love it. Specially Joyride, Hotblooded, Fading Like A Flower, Knockin' On Every Door, Spending My Time, I Remember You, Watercolours In The Rain, The Big L., (Do You Get) Excited?, Church Of Your Heart, Things Will Never Be The Same and Perfect Day. Perfect album.

    Award facts
All newcomers, except Mariah, Madonna and Roxette.
Madonna still hasn't got a gold medal! That will definetly change in a future.
Roxette wins their third Golden medal! And are up forAlbum Of The Year 1991...
Mariah gets the double nomination for a second year in a row in the pop field, without getting the gold medal in any of them. But she won 1990's Best New Artist gold medal, so she, alongside INXS, are the only artists with 1 Gold / 1 Silver / 1 Bronze!

My top 3 songs on Paul's album are "The Cool, Cool River", "She Moves On" and "Can't Run But" (none of which are mentioned ) but the album is absolutely flawless and I adore the entire album. It's probably my favourite album ever at this point actually, pop masterstroke for sure!
