I had a suspicion you'd like that one! Look forward to checking it out on your chart...

J&MC will never go unnoticed in my world - I first saw them back in 1984. (Shortest gig I can recall attending.)

Yes, I know about the hectic and bewildering nature of their gigs circa 1984-1985
I stumbled upon Dutch Uncles in 2011 when I was searching for a band similar to my beloved Wild Beasts

The strange and ethereal Burial somehow prevent new garage kings Desert Mountain Tribe from taking the week's top slot: can they do so again next time out, now with a new challenge from hip-hop legends A Tribe Called Quest at #3? BSP head four new entries with their latest at #31, while Long Island newcomers Lemon Twigs boast the biggest jump at #23 (+17). Other healthy climbs can be seen for Dutch Uncles (#6, +12), Jagwar Ma (#14, +11), Laura Marling (#17, +10), Jesus & Mary Chain (#19, +15) and Kings Of Tomorrow (#22, +13): The xx enjoy a notable turnaround at #13 (+10) on the week that their third album is due to drop. Now read on, etc.

The xx' album is finally out and it's quite good. That's also why i'm really getting into "On Hold" lately, so it's nice to see it climbing so much this week

Good use of the Hall & Oates sample there - surprised to note that it (briefly) made the national Top 40 here.

    New chart on its way...

When two tribes go to war...well, A Tribe Called Quest prevail this week at least, pushing Desert Mountain Tribe out of the runner-up spot as they continue to jockey for pole position. Loyle Carner follows up the Top Three No CD with the week's highest new entry (#26), while upwardly-mobile Melbourne band Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever debut just behind (#27): five other records appear for the first time this week. Jens Kuross has the biggest climb at #17 (+19), with Argentine post-punkers Las Kellies also moving well at #21 (+16). Here are the movers and shakers:

Despite its parent album being their last, A Tribe Called Quest score a first number one (and biggest hit in over twenty years) - however there's something of a bottleneck elsewhere at the business end of the chart this week, with four consecutive songs staying put. (Agnes, Girl Ray and Kate T's row of four identical numbers might also be a unique occurrence...) Six new entries are headed up by the latest single from Italian psychedelic outfit Julie's Haircut, while the biggest climbers are Las Kellies (#9, +12) and Loyle Carner (#16, +10). Here are those numbers:

ATCQ maintain top spot, but the stealthy rise of Dutch Uncles should not be ignored, with Las Kellies and Jens Kuross also looking strong. This week's biggest jump sees Julie's Haircut climb into the Top Ten (#6, +16), with post-punk bands Flat Worms (#21, +13) and Frau Pouch (#15, +12) also making significant progress: Cherry Glazerr (#23, +10) also rise well. Just the three new songs this week - or four, if you count RTJ's double-header (#29), which leads the way. Meanwhile, not content with breaking the longevity record with a 17th week on the chart for Golden Green (#38), Agnes O also creates a first by staying put for a fourth consecutive week with It's Happening Again (#5). Here's how they fell...

ATCQ hold at the top for a third week, with Julie's Haircut looking sure-fire to replace them next time with the extraordinary Gathering Light at #2. Run The Jewels (#9) boast the biggest climb, rising twenty places with their double-header culled from the RTJ3 album released last week. (Its emergence also accounts for the renewed interest in previous hit Talk To Me, which reverses its fortunes in climbing back up to #24.) The corrosive, incandescent Flat Worms also look potent as they rise to #7 (+14). Conor Oberst - the erstwhile Bright Eyes - heads six new tracks this week (#28), which also include the lovely if abysmally-named Cigarettes After Sex, who debut at #31, plus a first hit in some years for British dub titans Dreadzone (#34). Here they come...

They were favourites of mine during the nineties - current album Dread Times is probably their best outing since 1997's Biological Radio.

New Top 40 on the way...

Julie's Haircut just about shade Run The Jewels to claim the top spot, but it's Agnes O who presently looks by some way the strongest chart performer: Stretch Your Eyes - the fourth cut from last year's Citizen of Glass album - records the first Top 10-entry since the chart re-emerged (#6), consequently pushing previous effort It's Happening Again to a chart high of #4 after almost two months in the Top 20. (And all this despite former number-one Golden Green finally dropping out after eighteen weeks.) RTJ's rejuvenated Talk To Me (#12, +12) shares the honour of biggest chart climber, alongside Sacred Paws (#20) and the aforementioned Dreadzone (#22). The other four new tunes this week are Arcade Fire returning at #24; PINS and Iggy (#34); Alison Goldfrapp (#35); and Thundercat (#37) - which must represent the first chart-showing for Kenny Loggins since about 1847. Anyway, enough blather...
