Yes, get that Oscar QueenEm. I donít care if itís for this or A Quiet Place, she deserves one. Canít wait to see the mighty Lin Manuel Miranda either in this, what a legend of modern music.

Iím glad the critics donít seem to be comparing her to Dame Julie Andrews too much.

Well thereís no comparison, letís be honest. But the Dame canít sing anymore. If she could I suspect this would have happened a decade ago.

    So I saw it.

Itís a decent sequel and I think Emily is cast well, but this is not the same Mary Poppins I know and love. I honestly didnít care about the plot at all and the songs arenít as good. But itís a fun 2 hours with lots to enjoy and itíll be a great Sunday afternoon film... but a modern classic? Nah.

Itíll be Glenn vs Gaga for the Oscar imo. Meryl Streep could easily be nominated for best supporting as she completely steals the limelight from Emily, and Dame Angela just lights up the screen when she appears and sings. So lovely to see her back on the big screen in what could easily be her swan song.

Same with Dick Van Dyke too... who possibly is a little too excited (that it borders on ham) but he just pulls total focus when he appears too.

I just saw it yesterday and I think its a really beautfiful and imaginatively movie with a lot of attention to detail. On top of that Emily Blunt is a perfect choice to play Mary Poppins. The underwater scene was just perfection.

I adored it. My only qualm is that none of the songs have stuck with me. I was apprehensive about Blunt coming off as a bit cold but it was the opposite, she exudes warmth. All the main actors actually did a great job, and I adored Sir Lin-Manuel Miranda so much, that guy is full of charm.

I liked the movie, too, especially the animated scenes taking place on the bowl. I have to agree though that the songs are not as instant catchy as they were in the first movie - thinking of 'Spoonful of Sugar' or 'Supercalifragilistic...'. You have to get used to Blunt as Mary Poppins, but especially towards the end, you can see that she manages to combine both, strictness and friendliness . In this case, it is hard to give it a mark - 8/10 or 9/10? Well, maybe somewhere in the middle...

My first experience with Mary Poppins and I loved it a lot! Emily Blunt was incredible and I automatically wanted to pick up drag and call myself Mary Poppers until I imagined that name is probably used to death.

Such a fantastic movie, perhaps I'll watch the OG.

Box Office for Musicals in the USA

    https://www.boxofficemojo.com/genres...id=musical.htm

    1 Beauty and the Beast (2017) $504,014,165
    2 Grease $189,969,103
    3 The Greatest Showman $174,340,174
    4 Chicago $170,687,518
    5 Mary Poppins Returns $168,933,344

Mary Poppins will pass Chicago before the Oscars.

This has been a box office disappointment in the USA.

I read one final estimate of $340M. You know Disney was expecting $200M+

I think itíll end up over taking Grease eventually (future kid screenings and double bills etc) and I donít think Disney are too worried - itís done decent numbers for something that will be huge on home media and streaming for decades. Itíll be a family flagship of their new streaming service when it launches later this year, especially when grouped in with Mary Poppins and Saving Mr Banks - quote the family weekend etc...

Over the years. It’ll end up with a load of re-releases and random kids screenings etc.

I didn't realize just how huge of a beast 'Beauty and the Beast' was. My lord.

I see this ending a run between 175-180k. Would like it to over take This Is Me.

I loved the first half when it was just Mary Poppins and the kids.

It fell apart for me in the 2nd half.

I did not like Lin-Manuel Miranda at all.

Meryl Streep and Dick Van Dyke chewed the scenery. So over the top...

Same with Angela Lansbury. I hated that scene with the balloons.

    The music was alright.

Emily Blunt was the perfect Mary Poppins!!

Watched this last night with my husband. I absolutely loved it. Made me feel all nostalgic. Emily Blunt is an amazing Mary Poppins. I enjoyed the majority of the music and some of the performances where amazing. I smiled the whole way through
3 months and I'm still sober, picked all my weeds but kept the flowers!
