Hey guys cheapthrills has offered to swap me Finland for Australia, but I'm gonna be the slightly controversial one this month I think, just want to check the song here with you all first for possible sampling:

Antti Tuisku - En halua tietää (2004)

The backing track sounds very similar to JT - Cry me a river, however I can't find a definitive source on whether it actually samples it or not (checked whosampled.com). This is what the Finnish Wikipedia says when I google translated:

I do not want to know the debut album of Antti Tuisku, the Finnish pop star, published by Idols TV program, which was released on April 7, 2004 through a BMG record company. The song was also released later by Tuiskun esikoisalbum First.

Kristian Maukonen and Petri Munck's "I Do not Want to Know" is a song about R & B and a pair that got some criticism because it was considered quite close to Justin Timberlake's "Cry Me a River" song. The singles nevertheless succeeded well; It was nine weeks in the Finnish singles list, the top two in the list.

that Finnish song is a difficult one, theoretically it should be valid as there's nothing about it in the credits, on the other hand i absolutely hear the resemblance tbh still, it's acceptable in my opinion

I can definitely hear the similarities, too. Actually, it sounds like a case of BLATANT COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT
I have to say though, this has nothing to do with popular artists entering, as you can understand. It's just that it sounds like a copycat. If it's copyrighted as an original composition though, it goes without saying it's eligible.

True, although it is kinda similar in that the popular artists were technically eligible as it wasn't just them on the song and it wasn't a top 40 us/U.K. Chart, this would be technically eligible (pending everyone's thoughts on it) due to there being a hard similarity without an official sample if you know what I mean.

Although it could work for or against me, I think ill actually change it as for the contest purposes it might be more on the against than 'oh that's cool it's so similar without being an official sample/actually being a sample', (although who knows) or its one of those ones that's slipped under the radar and could be debatable if it was picked for it iykwim. :p

Sorry for the indecisiveness cheapthrills, if you want to still take Australia then you can though. I think I found the song I was thinking of by that same artist but it's not even retro so may save it for another month. I'll keep looking around a little longer both under Finland and maybe some others that are still free.
