What is Bodyguard and when will it air on BBC One?

The official start date for Bodyguard has not been announced but it will air on BBC One.

The political thriller will focus on a heroic war veteran (Richard Madden) assigned to protect Home Secretary Julia Montague (Keeley Hawes).

Tension rises as the pair clash over politics and Julia's bodyguard could soon become her biggest threat.

The series will be available to watch via iPlayer shortly after broadcast.

Who is in the cast of Bodyguard?

TV veterans Keeley Hawes and Richard Madden lead an all-star cast that includes Sophie Rundle (Peaky Blinders), Gina McKee (Line of Duty), Rowena King (Trauma) and Vincent Franklin (Happy Valley).

Show creator Jed Mercurio said: "I'm hugely flattered by the superb cast who've joined Bodyguard, led by Richard Madden and Keeley Hawes, both of whom I'm delighted to be working with again."

I think this looks absolutely breathtaking - so pleased that the man behind Line of Duty is writing this, bound to be gripping TV.

Looking forward to this. The BBC usually keep their best drama for the lead up to Christmas.

Looking forward to this - The Mother thought they had turned the movie into a TV drama. I started explaining it wasnt the same, but then I thought it possibly will be at some point down the line

The first 20 mins was gripping TV!

The latter 40 mins was less suspenseful but I appreciate that we're getting to know the characters.

Overall, really brilliant TV - slick, realistic and so watchable. It's shot in a similar way to Spooks, which was also outstanding TV.

Majorly fancy Richard Madden as well - I had no idea it was the same guy that played Robb Stark in GOT.

That opening was amazing. I barely took a breath. Loved the first episode. Episode 2 is on tonight!

Loved the first episode! The first 20 minutes were nerve-wracking. Richard Madden is excellent in his role.

Just watched the first episode and loved it. It sets the scene well and has enough twists in it to keep you guessing - even in episode one.

Love Richard Madden - saw him as Romeo (alongside Lily James as Juliet) - and he was amazeballs. Odd to hear him using his actual Scottish accent after seeing him lose it for other roles

    He's so beautiful.

Such a good series so far. Episode 2 was just as good as the first. Can not wait for more.

... which makes it more difficult for me as a non-English native speaker to understand him! :(
For a second I wondered why he calls his female boss 'mum', until I realized it's 'ma'am'.
And what did he say in the very end of the first episode in the car? I rewatched it 3 times but didn't understand a word.

    I'm really enjoying this.

The only (minor) gripe for me is how quickly they personalised the relationship between the two main characters - it's really weakened Home Sec's character.

I didn't realize the King in the North starred in this at first.

Finally got round to watching the first four episodes! Agree with this, they did fall into bed together very quickly but I guess they did that because they knew Julia was to die in the third episode.

That bomb scene was amazing, but on the subject of her death - Im not convinced she is either. I dont think the bomb ever went off in the suitcase either!

The first part of the first episode was one of the most gripping introductions to any drama series Ive seen. The sniper shooting at the car too was brilliant television.

    I also don't think she's a goner, I expect a major twist to come.

I'm intrigued by that man who visited her in the hotel and I don't trust either the senior police woman or the head of the intelligence agency at all.
