To début my weekly charts to UKMix, we have at #1 position the latest single from my musical discovery of the year (so far) Canadian singer/songwriter Allie X. After stumbling onto her music in January I was hooked and couldn't get enough of her hypnotic pop touch which I feel is somewhat missing from a lot of mainstream music at the moment. With a forthcoming album set to be released in October titled Super Sunset, this is the 3rd release from this project and while the previous two efforts were not as instant as her previous material, this track has been my weekly obsession - amassing 29 plays in only 4 days! Let's see how it holds up next week....

As predicted, Allie X's track Science becomes my longest running #1 on my songs chart and fends off strong competition from Samantha Fox, my guilty pleasure rediscovery of last week. In the albums chart we see Lady GaGa achieve the #1 position due to the 10 year birthday celebration of her magnum opus The Fame. This was released during my first year at high school and I was instantly obsessed. Australia, with Canada happened to be the first markets she broke in mid 2008 before achieving world-wide domination in early 2009. Where have the 10 years gone??

It's Zazie week! Almost three years after her previous album was released, Zazie is back with her 10th studio album and whilst it doesn't compete with her previous releases, it is beginning to grown on me. Zazie is one of my top 3 artists and as expected we have Zazie domination in my charts this week, however she wasn't able to reach the top of my songs chart. Instead, the Mylène Farmer and Laurent Boutonnant dream-team are back with a new Protégée Julia (previously a contestant on The Voice Kids in France) whose début single reaches the top of my chart for this week. We'll have to wait and see if she follow in the footsteps of success of former Farmer protégée Alizée.

Difficult to say definitively as the lyrics were written by Mylène Farmer who often writes in a very figurative style that is difficult to understand even for French people. Sexto means a sext in French, so it appears Mylène is being provocative as usual

A very close battle to #1 this week as all my top 3 songs had over 10 plays which would normally be enough to secure a #1, however despite having only 1 day of plays, Mylène Farmer takes the top spot with the promo single Sentimentale taken from her 11th studio album Désobéissance which will be released this upcoming Friday. Last week also marks my discovery of French electronic band Air who despite narrowly missing out on having my #1 song this week, have comfortably secured a #1 spot on my Albums chart.

A bit late to this party, but last week marks the discovery of Belgian/Italian singer Lara Fabian. Whilst I was familiar with her name as she has one of the highest selling albums in French history, 1997's Pure, it took me a while to climatise to her unique voice. Her English album, Camouflage released almost a year ago, left quite an impression, especially the lead single Growing Wings which narrowly misses out on being my #1 song of the week by one play. Instead, Mylène Farmer holds on for a second week with her track Sentimentale.

This week Lara Fabian's Camouflage opens with my second highest weekly album plays of 2018 so far (71 plays).
On Friday, Mylène Farmer released her eleventh studio album Désobéissance which received more plays than Camouflage on its first day. Tune in next week so see how many it receives after a full week. Any predictions?

For me one of the biggest events of the year occurred last week with the release of Mylène Farmer's eleventh studio album Désobéissance and the three year wait was well worth it! Immediately I was impressed with the diversity of this recording with a perfect mix of experimentation and classic Mylène melodies and lyrics. As predicted, this released has shattered my previous listening records since I began tracking last year with the entire twelve tracks appearing within my weekly top fifteen.

In its début to my charts, Désobéissance opens with a record breaking 327 plays for the week, with the track Parler D'avenir amassing 50 plays within its first week. I don't think I'll be seeing these kind of numbers again until the release of her next album, but we'll have to wait and see.

This week Mylène maintains her dominance in my charts and despite a 72.5% drop in plays from last week, her latest album
Désobéissance manages to achève my 2nd highest weekly album total for the year with 90 plays.

While the songs chart remains comprised of Mylène tracks, Lara Fabian's latest French single manages to break through and début into my top 10 - thanks RayRay for drawing my attention to this great song!

Each to their own. I recognise it's not as instant as her other more standard strong pop chorus songs like Désobéissance or C'est Pas Moi from her previous album, however I tire of those kind of tracks quickly and this one I find more interesting both musically and lyrically.
