I Drove All Night" was recorded by Cyndi Lauper for her third solo album, A Night To Remember. Lauper said she wanted to do it because she liked the idea "of a woman driving, of a woman in control." The song was a top 10 pop hit in the United States—and was her last U.S. top 40 single to date, peaking at number 6 on the Billboard Hot 100, and also a hit in other countries. It received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance. The music video for "I Drove All Night", directed by Scott Kalvert and Cyndi Lauper, features shots of an antique car, Lauper's characteristically manic dancing, and movie film projected onto Lauper's naked body.

IMO the best version of this song.

Cyndi's version is good, but Celine's is just absolutely flawless.

IMO Cyndi's version sounds sexy while Celine's is just a vocal show off and it has a cheap production too.

I like it, but I never hear it on 80s radio stations.

Roy Orbison's version is the best one IMO.

I prefer Cyndi's version to all others, there's just that powerful raw emotion when she sings it, it's really great, it draws you in.

Like her or not, Celine´s is one of the greatest singers in the last 30 years. Nobody can deny that. Back to topic, I agree Cyndi`s cover is far superior, though. It´s one of those cases like Mariah´s Without you, Donna Summer´s Macarthur Park and Aretha Franklin´s Respect where the cover is better than the original.

Technically Cyndi is original. She released it first even if she didn't record it first. If her version wasn't a huge hit maybe they never would've released Roy's version posthumously.

I have no idea how anyone can prefer anything over Cyndi. I discovered this live performance today. Amazing vocal performance. Not that there was any doubt this song IS Cyndi.
